Is it neutral + handbrake then Park? Or do you put your car in park then handbrake?
>>
>>28798670
I put it in first gear after turning off the engine. If it's too steep, it's neutral + handbrake
>>
Handbrake first then out of gear. Doesn't matter if its stick or auto. Actually, more important if its auto.
>>
>>28798670
Neutral then handbrake. No such thing as park on my stick.
>>
I just put it in park, my car doesnt have a handbrake
>>
>>28798670
hand brake is not needed
>>
>Auto
Brake, neutral, handbrake, release brakes, park.
>Manual
Brake, neutral, handbrake, release brakes, first/reverse depending on orientation.
>>
>>28798697
How do you emergency brake?

I am retarded and my handbrake is at like 15% effectiveness. I drive a manual. what do? how to park on a hill?
>>
>>28798670
>service brake
>come to a full stop
>shift to park
>engage parking brake
>release service brake
Why is this so hard for people?

Put it in a forward gear if pointing uphill and reverse if downhill. Turn the steering so when rolling down it moves towards the kerb.
Add brick of your choice.
>>
>foot brake
>park
>handbrake
>release foot brake

I've never owned a car with an automatic transmission in it, but I have driven quite a few and I don't think I've ever used the parking brake on a car with an automatic. I'd be willing to bet the percentage of people who drive automatics and use the parking brake when they park is very small.

>>28798756
Did you ever consider maybe trying to fix your handbrake?
>>
>>28798766
i'll get to it
>>
>>28798670
Hold brake pedal
Park/neutral
Pull handbrake
Release brake pedal
>>
>>28798670
Handbrake
Engine off
Clutch out in 1st or reverse
>>

Am I the only fucking person on earth who uses the parking brake in all of my automatics
>>
>>28799769
Literally everyone does.
I drive with other people for my job a lot and everyone puts it in park then uses the handbrake. Also watch a lot of dashcam footage and you always hear people pulling their handbrake before they get out of the car.
>>
>>28798670
You don't need to put the car in neutral.
>>
>>28798756
Cable might have stretched, might be able to adjust it somehow, or failing that, just get a new cable.
Could also be the actual brakes, depends if your car has separate drums or if it just uses the rear calipers.
>>
Not using it whenever the car is stopped is pure americlap specific retardation. You put them both on for redundancy. Newer cars will just auto apply the "emergency" brake whenever you put them in park.
>>
when I park on the steep hill that is the street I live on I put the parking brake on before actually putting it in park because I really hate the hard clunk that happens when I put it in drive after I didn't use the parking brake
>>
>>28799778
My handbrake does literally nothing because a previous owner whipped a few too many shitties and I haven't gotten around to fixing it.
>>
>>28798670
If it's an automatic, I just put it in park. I only set the parking brake if it's on a steep hill.
Manual transmission, neutral and parking brake. I'll move the shifter to first or reverse if it's on a steep hill.
>>
I kick the sidestand down and turn the knob to the OFF position.

t. keyless fob user
>>
i dont use the handbrake
>>
>Leave bike in 1st
>Kick stand down
>Leave with key
>Return to anxiously review my tendies
>>
>>28798697
I parked your mom on my stick.
>>
>retards parking in-gear like their brakes are gonna fail.

so you're driving a toy car

>leaving your car in neutral
nigger tier behavior
>>
>>28799769
I do it sometimes. It's really not necessary with an auto unless you are parking on an incline.
>>
>>28800016
Don't tell them how to avoid their car rolling down a hill. They've never experienced the handbrake slip before.
>>
>>28800060
I don't own a fucking Model T that needs an anchor or some shit to stop it rolling away.
>>
>>28800016
I live in the flattest part of the country.
>>
>>28798670
I just put it in park if it's on flat ground, if it's street parked on a hill I just fully cut my wheel left or right depending on the angle and then rest the car against the tire, that why my prawl and motor mounts aren't loaded up when I need to get going again.
>>
>>28802957
>rest the car against the tire
rest my tire against the curb*
>>
>>28799773
No, most people do not.
>>
>>28803033
Americans aren't people
>>
>>28798670
Handbrake first then park. It keeps the car from lurching down an incline when parked which puts pressure on the pawl in the transmission
