Reminder that OVG Hillclimb will be happening this 15th of February

Point A to point B time attack style racing, open technical regulations with a playing field as level as humanly possible, we did this shit once back in 2022 and I'm bringing it back

Round 1 by Feb 15, car submission deadline Feb 8

You drive on the same roads but usually with a different setup/different load/different trailer which makes stuff vastly different. Although visually it gets boring and I don't fw the graphics. Roadcraft might be cool yeah, I'll try it after I'm bored of snowrunning.
>>
>>28799033
I just have trouble enjoying mud/snowrunner because the roads where I live are shit enough, I don't need to simulate them never improving in the game too.
>>
>>28799022
no such thing. probably because it reminds me most of street racing compared to all other tracks
>>
>>28799034
Do you drive a cool 4x4 or a truck irl?
>>
>>28799037
I occasionally drive a Jeep or an old pickup. I guess a lot of it comes down to "I can go get myself stuck in snow and mud right now" and it just sounds awful lmao
I do think I'd enjoy the game if I could put in the time to get upgrades and some different vehicles but the start is miserable to me.

hold up, you're telling me you'd rather pay some neckbeard a commission (like a furry) for the exact same fucking shit you get for free? just because money exchanged hands doesn't mean the product will be any better, it doesn't cost money to make an AC or rfactor mod it just takes time. you paying money does not reduce the time it takes. you paying money is a symbolic gesture of faith and nothing more.
NO mods should be paid unless the modder has to buy licensing (which they never do) or they can itemize their hourly rates like a business (again, never done). all game mods should be projects of the creator's own passion. i would even go as far to say there should be nobody without the skills and ability to make their own mods, thus eliminating the entire for-profit mod market.

the big issue with for-profit modding (aside from it being hella gay) is that it now becomes necessary to gatekeep how mods were made to avoid losing profit or having some indian steal it and sell it himself. that means mods now need DRM. DRM that involves rootkits and kernel-level access. all put together by some random autist in his moms basement you have never met. if that doesn't give you the heebie jeebies you're probably braindead.

I want one of these but I saw somewhere that they're targeting $150 which is pretty expensive for a Chinese meme controller. That's the price of a lightly-used G29.
>>
>>28800854
>The Swift Drive looks like a standard controller at first glance. However, the first impression changes when you notice a miniature steering wheel right in the center. While this might look like a quirky design choice, the technology powering it is surprisingly serious. The device houses what GameSir describes as the world’s smallest direct-drive motor. The tech allows the tiny wheel to provide actual force feedback, giving players a physical sense of resistance and road texture that a standard thumbstick simply cannot replicate.

Buy it for your gf.
>>
>>28800825
It's gonna revolutionize racing games on a pad just like trigger steering on the DualSense did.

Are these effected only by reported car to car contact? I've seen trusted drivers that kept ramming people off track. Also, I'm usually simply cutting corners when needed, and it's not effecting my badges at all, only safety rating.

2 is basically an upscaled FM1 (basically same models) but running at 720p with MSAA and some missing minor features. Short on tracks so more repetition.

3 was the beginning of the end when they started casualizing the series and made it "prettier" to have a more broad appeal. Graphics got bit of a glow up, has interior view now. IIRC this was the first game to implement one button driving which they bragged about on stage at E3.

4 was an incremental update from 3, they just threw everything at it like more cars more tracks, Fujjimi Kaido returns, career structure can be opened up completely non-linear so you do whatever you want, has Top Gear license. Graphics got another glow up with new image based lighting. Most people typically consider this to be the "best" game, except those who hate the casualizing of the series may prefer 1 or 2 instead.

Personally I see very little reason someone would play 3 out of all of them, compared to Gran Turismo where every game has its own flavor to justify playing.

It was more fun 1 upping your friends lap time and then when you sign back on you see that he set an even better time. xbox 360 was peak gaming in terms of price for performance and graphics havent really even gotten any better since then with 600+watt gpus and cpus

Nintendo was not making anything for the US prison system, those sorts of things came much later. Apple in fact famously used clear casings for prototype machines which is actually how the iMac's transparent colored chassis came to be. Clear electronics are just cool and were were never "intended" for prisons it is just a convenient happenstance that is a use case. Youtubers are not valid sources of information and people who parrot tubeslop opinions are thrice as dumb.

I would like some input from threadposters on what it would take to get you to join /ovg/ series. Please don't reply if you already participate regularily.

If the game was provided to you in a prepackaged manner with everything required to join (ie AMS1 lite, rf1/rf2 lite with car/track included) would you participate in a series?

What's currently holding you back from joining the previous AC series?

Are the current weekend timeslots (20-21 GMT) bad for you?

What cars/tracks would you like to race?

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

For me I guess it's the lackluster feel of AC nowadays compared to other sims that we've raced with in the past (Ams/rF2)
Also it would have to be during a time horizon or season that is doable for most, like in the summer, just after Winter or something else

>>28803195
trannycorders did everything in their power to dissuade shitters from joining races for years and now you're surprised this place is dead
>>
>>28803195
I'm too new to racing and the general, and I doubt there would be any fun to be had if I joined for anyone involved.
You guys seem to have a pretty tight group already. There's also a lot of negativity in the thread and I'm not sure if it's genuine or not and I don't want to find out or be personally subjected to it.
>>
>>28803402
Not true. The decline was slow and steady and natural. When /ovg/ was at its greatest in participation everyone was around late high school early uni in age and now we're about 25-25 and people have real lives to deal with and naturally find other stuff to do on Saturday nights. Especially as covid ended and people could do thing in real loife instead of playing video games. New people came along steadily just not enough to replace the numbers that left. You can literally read this in the series archives, it's really no magic here.

Worth noting that there's currently 58 members on the mattermost and we were 8-10 people in BYOTC, and likewise for most recent series. There's plenty of people that just don't race but hang out anyway.

>>28803411
There is absolutely no skill floor to be racing in the races, it's just get out there and see what happens. You'll build skill much faster with people you know and can chat with than with randos online, and also it's funny if there's people on track that aren't top skill. The broader a spectrum of skill the less intimidating it'll be too. The thread has been extremely negative for years but it's barely ever about the racing in the series. If you're thinking about posts from recent races with the orange MR2/Celica guy it's because he is literally autistic and does not understand feedback so it just seems very hostile but it really isn't.

I should also say as I've hosted a great number of recent races and series and deliberately not done what anyone wanted to do but simply done shit you or I can't go and do in iRacing any evening of the week, the series have not been as "attractive" for newcomers. Making your own touring car isn't what everyone wants to do even if a guide is provided, and likewise for the coming series making a hill climb car from scratch is hard, much harder than the AC modding veterans ITT think it is for new players and will naturally have a very low participation number.
>>
>>28803398
actually i dont race in rf2, lmu, iR, beamNG, anything new
so we can argue about that
>>
>>28803423
>>28803411
And just to expand on the last point: We saw the decline in participation numbers even when we raced the things people "wanted to" (eg. the game that is 'in' at the moment or standard race car slop like only GT3s every weekend), so as a host it makes FAR more sense to just host what you like to race. That's why Gent hosts races in old cars with low grip and forces you not to choose what car to race for instance. Meanwhile I like racing anything and everything so I don't care and put up tons of different shit just to not do what you can already do on iRacing whether it works or not we'll then find out. Like the Mille Miglia or Le Mans Classic or bringing your own touring car.
>>
>>28803402
The only people that cry about "trannycords, shadow governments" etc are concern trolls who have never participated in a series, but likes to shit up the thread with manufactured drama.
>>
the day /ovg/ died was the day when the first irenting series was announced, this place worked best when you could race on a core 2 duo laptop with a temu ps2 controller, all that's left is the 10 turbo autists making lego ac mods pushing 35
>>
>>28803444

MX-5 Cup in iRacing was held because:

>AC was total dogshit to race in. CSP had not saved it
>ACC we tried and it sucked ass
>rF2 we were all sick and bored to death off
>We had done every existing rFactor and its derivatives including mods that would make for a serious series to death
>Write your own joke for RaceRoom

and most criticically

>every single person that ACTUALLY raced and ACTUALLY showed up had iRacing and was using it anyway
>>
>>28803448
I'm not talking about myself retard, the number one reason for the success of early ovg was the low barrier of entry
>>
>>28803378

t. GT7 + AssEvo chad
>>
>>28803463
Sure but that was also because the average 4ch user and especially /o/ user was a teenager or very young adult as outlined in >>28803423 and that is not the case anymore. There's a reason other threads for that age group like the /osg/ sticker thread died and it's not because they stopped selling cheap stickers. Most people age 25-35 doesn't have the time or the want to race virtual cars with a group of basket weaving racists on prime time saturdays, they wanna wroom during the week on iRacing or LMU now and then have the weekend free to spend with their family. /ovg/s decline was totally natural. rFactor and LFS were also not as old as balls ancient in 2013 as they are now. I still like to play them but let's not pretend they should be the standard for "old and versatile simracing game anyone can use" anymore. That's AC. It's actually older now than rF and LFS were in the early /ovg/ days.

For everyone to be less cringe, salty, and supremecist about their particular Sim autism of choice. I joined the mumble and there's dozens of channels each with some ancient inside joke Le epic shock value gay ass meme, the posters itt apparently all hate one another and games, and people spend more time obsessing about whatever shit happened years ago and schizostalking than doing anything interesting or fun.

Clearer presentation of event calendar and requirements. The OP references a beam/automation event which is exactly the sort of thing I'm interested in, but there is no actual information about it in the OP or in any of the links that I can see.

I like racing slower cars desu - not gigaminmaxed maximum edge racecars. Even in Forza I don't really like abytjing about A-class.
>>
>>28803448
And attitudes like this are why it's dying.

>The OP references a beam/automation event which is exactly the sort of thing I'm interested in, but there is no actual information about it in the OP or in any of the links that I can see.
It is both on the wiki and the doc. Maybe try actually reading them.
>>
>>28803510
how can you be this retarded yet somehow make it past the captcha
>>
>>28803510
The Google sheet has always been in every thread OP to explain these things to you and we have indeed been racing mostly slow things for 2 years. What are you complaining about exactly?

I agree the mumble is outdated as fuck and looks like ass though, even though mumble works fine for the job it does it's basically touching on unapproachable if you aren't already part of the group.
>>
>>28803510
The mumble for 95% of /ovg/ is there for whenever there's a race. It's pointless to join outside because Yea it's the same 3 people on it that is probably afk anyway. The mattermost is better if you want to engage outside the thread. And no you don't have to give your actual email when signing up
>>
