What's the /o/ verdict on lowriders?I think they're very cool. Even if they're kind of browncoded the sound they make is cool and they're super amusing.
>>28799913I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into building one, but it's not for me.
>>28799915I don't really know what goes into building one. I haven't bothered to look since I know it costs more than I can afford. No doubt a lot of work needs to be done to make one good though
>>28799918Just sell drugs and scam welfare.
I love them, but I'm not turning my caprice classic into one
For classics its just adding a lot of weight and reducing boot space. All those rubber pipes seem like a reliability nightmare, people do this but get scared buying a 10 year old $15k S class.
>>28799913I love how beautiful most of them are. Shows dedication and quality trade work.
>>28799913"kind of"?
>>28799913>Monster truck>LowriderAnon i...
>>287999132 pump 4 dump hoppo coppo marine deep cycle.
>>28799915only the paint, the metal fab and suspension is bullshit even when its done right, spics are retarded and ruin everything.
>>28800056this is just a car built by white people in michigan 90 years ago but on fucked suspension, shit wheels and with some gay airbrushing on it.
>>28799918There's a lot of heavy reinforcement that goes into the frame, control arms, axles and so on to ensure the cars don't just buckle after bouncing a few times. Add some engraving, chrome plating, and even pinstriping to the frame and suspension parts and it's honestly quite impressive how much work they put into parts you don't typically see (you see a lot of mirrors on the ground at lowrider shows to show a lot of this off)
>>28800472Damn, to think they could have fed their kids every day or bought a house that wasn't a rotting wooden chalet in the ghetto with that cash....
>>28800486the ones that can afford this shit are retired drug dealers, card cheats and scratch card winners.
>>28799913>lowridersthey're sick af. They started from white male soldiers coming home from WW2 in Los Angeles who decided to use their aircraft maintenance skills on everyday vehicles and making them cooler. Many of them are slammed to the ground. Don't tell this to the homo Boomers that lurk this board, that lowered cars have been around even before they were unfortunately born.>>28799918>I don't really know what goes into building one.lots of precise fabrication skills. Something your blue-collar welder would have learned, because that's who builds these. Also immaculate paint jobs with intricate hand-drawn details. Some engineering is required due to altered pivot points in the suspension. Fabric working skills for the interior. Electronics theory for all the actuators and sound system. Lots of skill.
>>28800136they do a really cool thing where you press a button and it goes from super high to super low
>>28800690>Don't tell this to the homo Boomers that lurk this boardDon't tell it to zoomers either because they'll flood the thread screaming about how JDM supposedly invented lowering cars.
>>28800928nobody believes that except for the imaginary person you made up in your head to get mad at
>>28800936But there was a thread full of it about a week ago
>>28799913The only way to make lowriders gay is to put swingas on it and drive it on public roads
>>28800938if they were talking about "stance culture", the subculture which typically involves extreme negative camber on mostly japanese cars that was inspired by japanese car culture, then yesnobody is arguing that the simple idea of LOWERING A CAR came from japan unless they are baiting people like you or underaged
>>28799913their hilarious, i personally hate air suspention but their great.
>>28800956I figured I hit a nerve.
>>28799915Honestly anybody that says is into cars and can’t respect the effort in them low riders is a fucking dumb ass.The craft that goes into the fabrication, paint and upholstery is second to none.
>>28800964
>>28801042>that one friend in the groupdefinetly me onthe left lol
>>28799913in the 70s and 80s they were everywhere in Cali. Northern and Southernannoying fuckers driving slowly, scraping the tarmac and causing sparks and literally tearing up the roads.>but they cool
i think theyre awesome, dont think i would ever copy one aesthetically on one of my cars even if i could be bothered with the level of effort involved, but you must respect.
>>28800988You read it right. I asked the question about the age of the JDM lowering scene, and got crickets for a reply.Posting the same pic as I posted in that thread.
>>28800690>They started from white male soldiers coming home from WW2 in Los AngelesThis. still hate lowriders and spics though.
>>28801142>the age of the JDM lowering sceneabout probably around early 1980s- with the shakotan or bosozoku scene. At least the street style where they purposefully slam to the ground just for aesthetics to emulate racing silhouette cars of the time
>>28800291Posted it as a good example of a trad build. This one is a crazy build. It features all handmade brass mouldings. Phew.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtZQnDrsFH4
>>28801147>probably around early 1980sI agree with your take.
>>28799913>>28799915This. They're much more intricate than what meets the eye. I just wish the builders didn't always go the gaudy route. However low riders are a counterculture icon so maybe the gaudy looks is intentional and if so, I respect that desu. If I had one I'd do a clean setup like this
>>28800964lmfao was this guy racing on dirt with hydraulics?
>>28801177from Roadkill
>>28801245RIP roadkill it got me back into modifying cars after topgear died
>>28799913I don't mind decoration cars but I also don't like taking classic cars and hacking them to bits either. Then again most of them were probably rotting in boomers lawns before they got "repoed" by Jose.
>>28801396>hacking them to bitsOnly the frame and suspension gets highly modified. Pretty easy to find stock frames under cheap four doors, if you wanted to return one to stock.Pic is WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero’s low rider, now owned by Vanilla Ice
>>28800964Their is possessive. As in this is their lowrider. They're is short for they are. As in They're hilarious. Not making fun, just letting you know.
come home white man
>>28801396>I also don't like taking classic cars and hacking them to bits either.you might just be a homosexual enjoyer- ever thought of that?>>28800690>>28801887real shit
>>28800136are you trying to be retarded on purpose?
>>28800928holy shit this nigga still seething about that? lmfao
>>28799913>they're very coolScene is worldwide now, plenty of new builds in Australia. Thanks to the Chicano for keeping the custom car flame alight. We love you.
>>28799913>verdict on lowriders?Best paintwork in the entire car scene.
>>28802944Agreed
>>28799913Paint is top notch but I don't appreciate half of the clean classic cars in the US being shittily made lowriders
All my friends love e'm. They say they ride a little higher.
>>28799918Well you start out with replacing the springs and shock absorbers with hydraulic cylinders. Then you put hydraulic pumps with reservoirs in the trunk, along with the control relays, and then run high pressure hydraulic lines to the cylinders. If you want something simple you just have one pump and one valve and it'll slowly lift the whole car up and down. If you want to control each wheel, you need a valve per wheel. The faster you want it to cycle, you have to put more pumps in for more fluid flow. The guys that can hop are running usually four pumps. If you start hopping you need to reinforce the frame and the front suspension arms, among other upgrades.Note that hydraulic fluid is non-compressable so a car on hydraulics has no suspension. The only cushion you get is the sidewall flex of the tires, and the seat foam.
>>28803937>a car on hydraulics has no suspensionThey normally run a short length of a heavy duty truck spring
>>28803937The electrical system is wild - there’s a stack of batteries in parallel to drive these high flow pumps. Some cars have air to liquid accumulators to keep the system pressurised, like capacitors work in electrical systems.
Mom seriously almost bought me an 83 Monte Carlo lowrider in high school because I loved breaking bad. In retrospect I’m glad she didn’t but it would’ve been so kino bouncing in a high school parking lot.
