>counter steered as soon as oversteer>didn't slam brakes and kept on throttle (i think can't really tell)Yet he continued to oversteer and crash. So what actually happened? Sound >https://www.youtube.com/shorts/H_7C0-RqsNQ
Can't drive.
I seriously wonder how many replies before a real intelligent response, but /o/ is pretty much dead and it's just retards and bots i guess.
>>28802784Ran out of steering angle. Can't countersteer anymore but the rear end keeps coming around. Mustang, meet curb.
>>28802793Looks like itSo does that mean that theres effectively a point of no return? And that the counter steering should have began earlier?
>>28802784Nobody took the time to watch it with sound apparently. It's an auto, you can hear it hit second gear mid slide. So basically he just matted it and had no throttle control.
>>28802794>So does that mean that theres effectively a point of no return? And that the counter steering should have began earlier?Yes. To my eye countersteered pretty perfectly, but gave it way too much gas and stayed in it way too long.
>>28802795Whats the issue if it upshifts? Not enough torque to break traction and spin it back the other way?Sry im a noob and just guessing shit
>>28802784I've spent countless hours trying to figure out how the typical "Mustang leaving the meet" crash happens. I'm chocking it up to a lack of winter driving. Because here in the great white north you get real fucking good at counter steering when you're constantly driving on snow and ice. I don't even know what I do when it happens because it's just second nature at this point. Having a lot of power is no excuse. There is no difference between a 1000hp RWD car on dry pavement and a 100hp RWD car on pure ice. If anything it's harder to master on ice because you have so much less grip to work with.
>>28802800Ok but what is your best guess as to what happened in the video specifically? A second too late on countersteering? Also on ice it sounds like the situation is a bit different because the front tires will also lose grip.
>>28802797too much wheel speedprobably should've let out before it shifted, but instead stayed in it and started spinning the wheels even faster making it that much more difficult to regain traction>>28802800It's a lack of experience, plain and simple. People spend their whole lives driving cars that don't have the power to spin the tires, and never rev past 3k anyway, then they get in a mustang, goose the throttle for the first time in their lives, and the rest is history.
>>28802803> let out before it shiftedBut wouldn't this also lose traction on the rear wheels because le weight transfer or something I heard that the goal isn't to regain traction until you actually straighten out, gaining traction while facing the wrong way actually seems like a bad thing.
>>28802806The shift happened just before he cleared the intersection, if he had let out before that he would've been going mostly the right direction.Instead he spun the wheels up to like 80mph (aka zero traction) and continued the slide right into the curb.
>>28802784It's an auto tragic, they automatically change into a higher gear and it just loops
looks like he didnt countersteer enough or early enough
>>28802784I'm getting my first rwd car soon, and its gonna be mid engine too. I really wanna know how to not fuck up like this.
>>28802817It's practically impossible to fuck up by keeping TC/ESC on in any modern car
>>28802817>Option A: go to a gravel road and practice at low speeds (warning: may fuck up your paint)>Option B: Find a big, empty parking lot that doesn't have lightpoles and drift during the rain/snow.
>>28802817Practice in a parking lot instead of a street with curbs.
>>28802816He's at full lock, there's a reason drift cars are modded to have crazy steering angle.
>>288027840. People think Mustangs are for burnouts and donuts but they're very hard to control once you lose grip. They're very unpredictable compared to other cars I've abused. The weak low-end torque means you have to be at very high RPM (and very high wheel speed) to break traction, it's not gradual and easy to transition in/out of traction loss like with a pushGod engine. So once you finally break traction, your engine's screaming at 5-6K RPM and you only have a tiny bandwidth of RPM before you need to shift up or the tranny will suddenly cut all power (auto).1. He stayed on the gas a tiny bit too long. You have to feel these things out from experience and eventually develop a sense for how much throttle, how long you hold that quick stab, etc.2. He could have added more initial counter-steer and a tiny bit earlier. You have to be super-fast with the steering on these, and they don't "self-steer" (self-unwind the steering back to center if you let go or throw the wheel) the way other cars do.3. The shitty 10R80 auto always shifts at the worst time and is really jerky, causing either suddenly gaining traction when it upshifts, or suddenly losing traction when it downshifts (slams the drivetrain into 5K RPM or some shit).4. He could have tried to abort by slamming the brakes but didn't, might have stopped short of the curb.t. very experienced in typical Mustang activities (unfortunately)
>>28802893Nice explanation. Someone mentioned that the auto upshifted to 2nd in the video, that means it gained traction unpredictably while facing the wrong way?
>>28802906Dunno if that can explain what happened in OP video. I have an S650 Mustang and it's often in 3rd until full stop (then it downshifts into 1), so he could have been 3-->2 or 3-->1 as well if the computer detected high throttle input and downshifted to give him more accel. But you generally don't want it to shift in the middle of a slide. It can upset the drivetrain and how much wheelspin you're getting (thus sideways grip/lateral forces) vs how much forward momentum you're getting. It just adds more variables to the mix.
>>28802795Autotragics btfo
>>28802846Sometimes drift can be so kino.
>>28802906That was me, the problem with shifting to 2nd isn't gaining traction, it's losing even more due to excessive wheelspeed for the given steering angle. It's why I mentioned he just aped the throttle instead of having any control as well. If he lifted and it hooked the car would've followed the countersteering front wheels and snapped to the left. >>28802893>>28802918So you didn't actually just watch the clip he posted? There was absolutely 0 downshifts taking place. He punched it from a stop, spun the tires in first so hard it shifted to second and he looped it, very simple to see what happened if you have functioning eyes and ears. >>28803294>b-b-but, muh heck'n shift times
>>28802822Why would anyone buy modernslop
>>28802841Parking lots aren't open like that in my cunt
>>28802797Your car is basically stationary but your rear wheels are going at highway speed.
>>28802793He was already sideways before he started to countersteer. Dude how ni.clue what his front end was doing.
>>28802784I talked about this before, but that's just what modern mustangs do. Once the rear end starts to slide it just seems to keep going regardless of inputs. I don't know why this is because the older generation with the stick axle didn't do that. The modern Camaros and challengers don't do it either.
He was probably watching the curb the entire time, target fixation is real
