Why don't billionaires just start their own car companies to make cars exactly how they want them to be? Imagine you had a billion dollars to waste. Wouldn't you want to invest in your dream car that doesn't exist, like a V16 Shelby Cobra?
>>28803677>Imagine you had a billion dollars to waste.I would buy fuckloads of land where I could do whatever I want, a tank and a vintage airplane instead of larping as a car manufacturer. Besides the real richfags don't care about cars. It's all about planes and helicopters.
>>28803683Cars and motorcycles are cooler though
The smart ones saw what musk did and stayed in their lanes lmao
>>28803689Not really
>>28803677>Wouldn't you want to invest in your dream car that doesn't exist, like a V16 Shelby Cobra?wow yeah, a BILLION DOLLAR idea
i have no idea why nobody has tried to make mass-production kit cars where one of the selling points is that you can buy it brand new as a roller and engine swap it.like for example you could buy it speced out with a late ls 5 speed or you could buy it at a reasonable price fully assembled with wheels, instrument cluster, lamps and turn signals heat ac optioned for it and just throw your own smallblock v8 powertrain in later.I know some people DO this but it's always super high even for a roller.imagine having your dream car trailered home for under 20k practically new and all you gotta do is get a motor and transmission for it.
The ultra rich have been commissioning bespoke cars from luxury brands and custom car builders for as long as cars have existed. There's no need to make a car company and build all those assets and infrastructure from scratch, you can literally just go to some random bloke in Italy and be like "yeah I want a car with a 37L V24 but also it's completely silent inside and it looks like the Eiffel Tower but after it fell down" and they'll be like cool give me $20M and a couple years and I'll get you that car.
>>28803677Cheaper to build a tube frame
>>28803718>yeah I want a car with a 37L V24 but also it's completely silent inside and it looks like the Eiffel Tower but after it fell down
>>28803677It costs more than a billion to start up a legit car company with the ability to produce an actual notable amount of cars. For example, among many other investments, Toyota is planning on building a $13.9 billion battery plant in North Carolina. That's just one plant. Just for batteries.
>>28803677Basically this is the story of the ineos grenadier.I dont think billionaires want to just blow a billion, they typically want some kind of return. You dont get that rich by being wasteful.
>>28803683I think if you are a car enthusiast and have the money to start a car company you would already be as legit as any other car manufacturer. Youd probably gain popularity immediately if you want what a majority of other car enthusiasts want.
>>28803694>ebonics
>>28803677tl:dr ridiculous barriers to entry in the form of extremely high capital requirements and staff expertise. There's a reason the industry has been becoming more consolidated instead of more diverse: It's damn near impossible for new blood to get in the game.Tesla is an overvalued tech company that makes most of their money selling carbon credits, btw.
>>28803683Kek, reminds me of an episode of Venture Bros where they take a supersonic VTOL like a mile away and Brock goes "we coulda just taken the car" and Rusty says "please Brock, the car is for millionaires"
