will American automobile companies ever make a reliable and quality product like before 2008 ever again? Are they doomed to get bought out completely by China or India?>all I ever see are once-great brands betray their loyal consumer base>planned obsolescence>retarded engineering with catastrophic failure as commonmy friend with a newer 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe started having horrible problems like air-conditioning system failing, engine misfiring or transmission erratic behavior. You would assume they could atleast out-shine 90's machines, but they can't even muster that these days. Makes me sad because I really enjoyed early-2000's GM for instance and now they're all but lost.
I don't think GM is smart enough for the planning part of planned obsolescence. Their pre-2008 cars were shitboxes and didn't hold up either.
>>28803838No car of any manufacturer can even beat their pre-COVID-19 reliability heights so no, the Americans most assuredly won’t.

>>28803838Shit isn't much better if you go with a "Japanese" vehicle. Look at the garbage Toyota and Honda are shitting out. When 90% of vehicles are leased there is little incentive for a manufacturer to make a vehicle that's built to last.
Greetings my murican brethren!Redpill me on Ferd vs GM/Chebby. What’s the general consensus in the US? I understand both have their fans, but if you try to be impartial - which of the two has higher perceived value?
>>28803955>Shit isn't much betteryeah but I am talking about American vehicles. I want them to be like the past where they were better. Give a fuck about Japan's machines
>>28803957>which of the two has higher perceived value?I've worked on both as a professional technician. I would say Ford has some really weird design and engineering- while Chevrolet attempts a more traditional route. Ford would have things like having weird plastic fasteners for your HVAC blower motor. GM would do weird shit like have outsourced parts fail completely like their transmission. I would say Ford is still in the people's minds unlike GM- who have fallen beneath in my opinion. They used to have a stranglehold with movies and media backing up GM, but today- struggle to remain relevant.
>>28803958America still makes some good vehicles. Buy a Chevy Express or a Freightliner. Those are still built to last. I bet you'll bitch about paying $50k for a metal tube or $120k for a cab on a frame though.
>>28803967>America still makes some good vehicleswhy did they let hook-nosed bankers fuck this up? We were supposed to be rooting for the future, not dreading it
Why would anyone build vehicles that are built to last? You’re not supposed to keep your car for 10+ years anymore. Heck, you’re supposed to lease for 2 years and then get the latest slop
>>28803957really depends on trim, the top trim trucks kinda stand equal in terms of what’s offered. a top trim RAM will clearly be nicer than a bottom trim GMC.If you’re after luxury and status, it’s probably GMC, Ford, Chevrolet, RAM, and Toyota, in that order. Reliability and resale value follow a different order, and that’s really dependent on how your truck is optioned.

>>28803972Nobody was buying it...Basic economics 101 is to not sell anything that has no market. When you got something selling at 1/10th of your best selling product then you're almost losing money by producing that shit selling product. Especially when they shitty selling product is also dragging your MPG averages down. Why do you think the Chally and the Mustang are on the same chopping block?

>>28803988Ain’t GMC just rebranding Chebby trucks for the most part?
>>28803838>will American automobile companies ever make a reliable and quality product like before 2008 ever again?Let's see what they say when they testify to Congress. It's going to be political theater but it's a warning shot to the US auto industry that the US government sees what's going on and they don't like it.I hope Sen. Cruz grills the fuck out of them for lulz since no meaningful change will come out of it. If the bottom line doesn't change, make them pay with their ego.
>>28803838No.The modern business model is to pump out disposa-trash that your customers have to replace every ___months/year so you make more money off them and repeat. They are dis-incentivized to make you a car that lasts 15 years with minimal maintenance. Hell the more expensive and and laborious the maintenance the better, because they can get more profit from the Service department. If you aren't out there LuigimaxXxing and Mass Minecrafting, you're doing it wrong. The whole world needs a reset. We might even get one soon if we piss off some more countries enough.
>>28803838My 88% american parts and materials 2013 DODGE just got to over 300k km and for less than half the price I bought it used in parts maintenance (so ~$2500) I fully expect it to go over 500k km with little issue except for the torque converter wearing out.
>>28804022the GMC, especially the Denalis, will have premium materials and sound deadening, something the High Country Chevrolet’s don’t get. they’ll have more chrome, more standard features.but yea they are roughly the same otherwise. same powertrain, same frame, same brake system, etc.
>>28803972This is 4chan, but here’s a serious answer.1. Regulations- the way CAFE and NHTSA crash tests were set up favors high mass vehicles. High Mass = more safer. And you can read all about how CAFE is determined, but it basically says trucks and SUVs get to abide by more lenient restrictions than sedans and wagons. EVs get a free pass, partly why there was such a huge push for them despite a limited market.2. Automotive journalism. If your sedan doesn’t behave exactly like an E36 M3, then it’s going to be lambasted, even if that’s a completely different market segment. Negative press != good press in 2026. You can take a look at every review of the new dodge charger and the new honda prelude to see this in action. This means no one really tries to “up-trim” their fleet cars anymore, outside of a few rare instances.3. Cost/Profit margins. It costs roughly the same to design a Ford Explorer as a Ford Taurus. Both of them have to have ABS, AEB, ESC, airbags, emissions, cybersecurity, etc. But the market will expect that the Taurus will cost $10k less than the Explorer. If you’re a company with limited resources, then you’re going to prioritize the higher margin vehicle, at the expense of your downmarket customers. Which is a circular problem, because if someone buys a Toyota Corolla in 2026, then in 10 years they probably aren’t buying an F150, they’ll buy a Tundra instead.4. Market tastes. People simply don’t want sedans anymore. The SUV or truck is a better form factor, even if its worse on gas. And theyre willing to pay extra for it.5. Covid. Covid upset not only timelines, but cancelled some developments outright. Ford had to kill many aspects of the CD6 platform in response to Covid. Covid also forced out a lot of long-tenured people in automotive, through buyouts or layoffs. These people were replaced with generally lesser experienced people. And quality has taken a noticeable dip since as that tribal knowledge has left.
>>28803972>>28804426And basically any modern automotive problem traces back to one of these 5 problems. Focus ST doesn’t exist anymore because it does certain things worse than a Miata and reviews badly. Focus ST doesn’t exist anymore because fuel economy regs and cybersecurity regs mean it costs the same to engineer a Ford Bronco Sport, and you’ll make 40% less profit selling one.Focus ST doesn’t exist because no one is buying them. Let Kia or Toyota have that low margin market.Focus ST doesn’t exist because its “unsafe” and not “fuel efficient” enough, while Bubba drives a 2500 gasser with all terrains that gets 8 mpg. Focus ST doesn’t exist because Ford burned 10B on EVs, thanks to government regulations, but the aftermath of Covid made losses compound, so the company is forced to go lean.
>>28803957Just get whichever one you like at this point. They effectively use the same base transmission paired with independently developed engines and horrendous plastic interiors. I personally like Ford over GM/Chevy. GM generally makes a higher performance vehicle while Ford has lagged and used more conservative design. Trucks, get a Ford, sports, get a Chevy, commuters are toss up, I have a Focus and with a manual they're gold while the Cobalt imploded and vanished from the market. GM typically weasels out of recalls while Ford will try to find a way to fix it after the class action hits.
>>28804438>Focus ST doesn’t exist because Ford burned 10B on EVAs a Focus SE owner I'm upset they discontinued the Focus line in the US instead of making a hybrid or even bringing the diesel ST over. The cafe regulations on diesel is retarded. At least the STs are actually somewhat cheap in my area, still a very reliable car to get into.
>>28803958>>28803838Yeah domestic automakers have never been known to cheap-out and cut corners in the past (sarcasm)
