It looks better, but at the same time it now looks more like a camry. It's just too visually bulky.

The problem with black cladding is that it looks cheap and makes the wheel wells look bigger and thus the wheels look smaller, which is bad for proportions with a bloated looking modern car like the WRX. You want to maximize the visual size of the wheels with relation to the slab-sided and chunky body. Not make the wheel wells look bigger and the wheels smaller.

You don't sand the texture off the plastic. Plastic primer then spray poly. You sand the polyester layer.

It doesn't matter because there's only one decent bumper option for the VB at the moment and it probably requires the removal of the rear crash bar like the carbon bumper by AXIS. So you risk totaling your car from a low speed rear end for aesthetics.

But they're all I drive and I've enjoyed my time with them. GCs are starting to be not worth buying because almost all of them need a lot of work and have a stupid premium. GDs are still mostly good unless owned by a retard. I also own a VB and I've enjoyed my time with it so far but I enjoy learning the new FA (to me) platform.

Modern Subarus are pretty reliable. I have a 2011 and its given me very few problems.

Subaru trashed their reputation because their 4 cylinder engine had head gasket problems from like 2000 to 2010. You'll still hear people claiming Subaru's are unreliable and it all stems from what happened 20 years ago which Subaru should have fixed within a year or two; but let remain a problem for a decade..

GC STis are pretty cheap if you get them ($15-20k) but being real they're just poorly built cars and the age is catching up. Phase 1 EJ20s have crankwalk issues and *some* NLA/Hard to Find parts like MAFs and Coils. Phase 2 EJ20s (ver5 or 1997+) are what I recommend looking for since there's more parts compatibility with 02-03 EJ205s + the engines aren't as highly tuned as EJ20Ks. Transmissions almost universally suck too.

I'm looking to downgrade from a VA STi to a GC because its more fun to drive. VA is still a really analog mechanical car for a 2016 but its my newest car...it feels too physically big and I'm not really in love with it.

VB WRX is reliable and the engines are really cheap. Price out a replacement 2022+ WRX engine vs a GR Corolla or Type R engine. If its a year-round daily or your only car, go for the WRX. N is more fun imo and its not a bad car at all but you'll feel the FWD on a cold winter day or snow/bad rain.

They also like to have catastrophic breakdowns that are really unpredictable with the EJ25s. Turbos more than N/A but it still catches normies by surprise because their oil consumption is more than normal for a car in its class and its really inconsistent (no oil consumption then suddenly a quart low).

EJ25 Turbos are so bad there's a cottage industry to selling replacement engines for them in the form of IAG, Outfront, SixStar, etc. The 08+ were the worst about it

I will admit mine is pretty oil hungry. I change my oil at 3000 miles and I still find myself having to add a quart in when the low oil light comes on every now and then.

I'd suggest giving one a test drive. I haven't driven a current model WRX, so I'd be talking out of my ass if I told you it was or wasn't worth it.

I can tell you that its not a terribly unreliable car and that personally I don't like the amount of black plastic trim it has on the exterior; but I can't attest to how it drives.

An AWD Camry would probably be more reliable; but I doubt it would be as fun to drive.
