>tfw have to drive a 24 year old rusted shitbox with 225k miles on it from Vermont to Arizona.
Any advice to get there without getting stranded?
>>
Have a toolbox that has 90% of the shit you need for it
Bring a tire patch kit and jack if you don't got a whole spare
Pack spare oil, coolant, and transmission fluid just incase you spring a unfixable leak.
Road flares always handy
Spare can of gas never hurts if you're not plotting your route at all
Make sure all your fluids are good too before going on the trip
Swap the brake pads preemptively
Pay attention to your tempature gauge if you got one, if it gets too high take a break and pull over.

If you got nobody to depend on to share the specfic route you're taking then acknowledge that you are all you can depend on in certain areas because there will be actually 0 reception to call for help or a tow.

mechanically, bald tires were the worst threat when i had to drive long distance. when they blow out from all the heat, vibration, and impact, they require a spare inorder to be replaced, so i'd keep a spare tire just out of redundancy on top of the tire rope plug kit, a handpump with psi gauge, and replace all of the tires anyways most importantly.

doesnt matter if it's bald, it matters how old they are, old tires explode, not bald tires

You'll be fine if you're not cartarded, I drove a square body from Alabama to Vegas that had been sitting in someones yard for 10+ years, put fresh gas in it, changed the oil and aired up the tires and left, the tires were dry rotted so I kept it under 60mph the entire time, it blew a head gasket in New Mexico and I had to carry gallons of water and oil in the bed of the truck with me to add between gas fills, also did that entire trip with expired plates that were on the truck and no insurance

Flush your coolant and/or oil if its already dirty and shit and ready to be replaced.
Carry extra of every fluid. Oil, brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid.
Bring a spare tire or buy one if you don't have one already. Ideally full-sized.
Buy/bring a toolbox with the necessary sockets to change fluids/take out your battery/etc.
Fix anything that's deficient NOW. If you have any lights out, a dying battery, bad breaks, bad tires, bad belts, etc. now is the time to deal with it lest they earn you a ticket/crash/breakdown.
Buy a jerry can and have a few extra gallons of gas in the trunk. Your fuel level float/gauge could be fucked for one, and traveling across the US you might not get opportunities to fuel for a long time.

Of course, it ultimately depends on what your goal is. Is this a car you're going to keep and take care of, or is it going to get sold to a boomer/teenager/etc.? What your answer is will determine whether or not you should buy a new battery/brakes/etc. lol.

honestly it's nothing on the car, it is more taxing on you, unless you really love just driving a car you will want to kill yourself about halfway thru kansas or texas.

Can you arrange to have it shipped? That would be more expensive up front, but might be worth it.

Just rent a car, fuck doing a trip that far on a motor that could blow up at any moment. Unless you're moving and you're really attached to this car and in that case it's worth it to just get it towed to Arizona.

A car transporter will cost you less than a tow and repair. Get that shit trailered.
