Why is ice even slippery?
Ice is a solid, not a liquid, and isn't particularly smooth compared to other surfaces that aren't slippery.
A wood floor is smoother than a layer of ice on a road, yet ice is slippery and a wood floor isn't.

It’s not the smoothness it’s the coefficient of friction I think you call it mew or something. Wood floors might be smooth but it has tiny microscopic grain hairs with a pretty decent coefficient that you can still slide on them but still come to a stop. Ice on the other hand might be rough but it’s still wet and moisture is what really brings the friction coefficient down to fuck all values because shit glides over water as it’s a very good lubricant. What’s more water is self levelling so if it melts and freezes the surface is now so smooth and has so few points a tire can grip. That’s why chains and spikes literally dig into the ice bc there’s nothing to grab on it’s surface

unless you have snow tires and a manual transmission, driving on snow/ice is fucking nerve-wrecking. All it takes is a strong wind gust or a retard pulling out in front of you and you're fucked
