Anyone familiar with the platform? Im looking at buying one with 105k miles on it.Most of the enthusiast groups say its peak range rover and reliable as long as youre meticulous about maintenance
>>28824300There was a fair amount of cutting-edge (for the time) electronic tech, particularly in the later models just before run-out for the L405, stuff like dual-view screens. If that goes wrong it’s a fortune to fix.
>>28824304(cont)There were also JLR idiosyncracies like having the entire vehicle main harness be part of the dashboard
>6 digits on the dash of euroslopYeah sounds retarded, but if you want it OP by all means indulge yourself.
>>28824312Its 20 years old with 105k miles on it, I'm fairly certain it has just been a grocery getter for some yuppie its entire life
>>28824300>meticulous about maintenancethen it's not reliable
They have rust issues around the rear subframe, sills and doors
>>28824300The ones in the US generally got the shittier, unreliable BMW V8 or the marginally less shitty yet still questionable Jaguar V8. Europeans and others got them with diesels that appear to be bulletproof, on the other hand.Coming from someone that owned one, I'd call the Range Rover P38 "peak Range Rover", on the other hand. Even with those, everyone else got the more dependable diesel while Americans got the more questionable Rover V8.There's a reason that, before he went full cringe, people like Doug Demuro made a killing on the extended warranties from places like Carmax that I don't even think they offer anymore. He had over $20k of maintenance done over just a few years. At full mechanic cost, I'm sure, but even if you wrench yourself or find a shadetree, flat-rate mechanic that's still a hell of a lot of maintenance.I'd be lying if I said they still didn't catch my eye especially when I see one cheap, that boxy look is timeless and IMO the new Range Rovers just look too curved.
>>28824472Some enterprising American must have worked out how to V8 swap one of your decent V8s into a Rangie
>>28824476The only real bad I've heard of the BMW V8s is mostly timing chains and guides to be fair, which is an annoying fix but one of those "one time" things (well, plus the cooling system and VANOS, typical BMW stuff of the era). I'm not sure what's a known achilles heel of the Jag V8s but I've also heard those may be the ones to go for as they're also more refined than the earlier L322s.I'm pretty sure multiple LS swaps have been done on these too, but if that was the goal I'd go for the cheapest Rover with the nicest condition interior I can find instead.
>>28824494> if that was the goal I'd go for the cheapest Rover with the nicest condition interior I can find instead.Sensible.Rangie are common as muck here. I actually rolled around in a 5.7 Jeep Commander for a while (I know they are hated there but I really liked it) and credit where it's due no one does V8s like you lot
>>28824494Everything ive heard from people is the jag v8 is pretty bulletproof, I know quite a few people with over 220k miles on them
>>28824457They are aluminum, numbnuts
>>28824300>105,000 miles>20 years old
>>28827158No they're not, niggerfaggothttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECK3FTXGvDM
>>28824407Reliable cars are ones that behave predictably if you maintain them correctly. Unreliable cars have issues regardless of what you do.
