Back when I did woodworking, the sedan struggle was real. I had it mapped out exactly how I could fit 96" long boards, wirh my back seat folded down, from my venerable CD player console all the way back to the trunk.

I always got a kick out of the hardwoods store guys (all of them inevitably missing a finger or two) would go from looking concerned to laughing their ass of when I shut the trunk and it all fit. But that was the catch. A piece of wood could just never be longer than 8'.

You only see people with trucks at the stoplight on your commute to your wagie job. You have no idea what they do on the weekend.

Glamis Sand Dunes sees 1.3 MILLION unique visitors a year.
Thats 1 campground.
In 1 park.
In 1 state.
And theyre just there for the dirt.
Add jet skis, snowboards, mountain bikes, fishing boats, hunters, campers etc and you have 50 million people loading up their trucks last weekend while you sat in your parents basement and perked off to anime.
>>
>>28833291
Calm down trucknigger
>>
I'd LOVE something with a truck bed but in the rustbelt they're overpriced to fuck AND you're only getting maybe 85 percent of the truck from the rust... I don't always need a truck bed, but fuck does it make life easier when I need to carry wood, drywall,

My man, same. 2008 Honda Accord, in my case. It was the first car I ever bought new, and the first manual transmission I'd been back in since I learned to drive. That was a good fucking car. Now I've been told the Accords are all too big and don't handle like they used to.

go to a worksite and you will notice only the GC's have trucks, and all the subbies will drive economy cars. campgrounds, trailheads and climbing walls are full of wagons and vans. my old mma gym was all sports cars, ricers, or family suvs. a mountain bike would fit fine inside of a honda element or on a bike rake mounted to a prius.

Loading a modern long MTB into a sedan gets old real quick. Your interior gets covered in dirt, mud and melted snow/ice and your panels get scratched or cracked by the myriad of sharp things on a bike. Plus there are plenty of trailheads that cars can't get to.

I have a couple trees leaning towards the cabin but ill probably wait until the weekend to take those down when a couple buddies can come out and help.

Hopefully it's 4x4, but that poonton boat isn't strapped down. There's still the weight of the trailer on the hitch and that should be about as far as they need to go down the ramp. Boat trailers typically have skids of wood and carpet to slide the hull across.

People who talk shit about truck owners dont own anything that needs a truck and dont do anything that needs a truck.
You dont have a jet ski.
Or a fishing boat.
Or a dirt bike.
Or a kayak.
You dont take your SxS out to your hunting cabin
You dont take a load of pallets to the beach to have a bonfire with friends.

You sit on your ass and play video games or watch the latest capeshit Hollywood trash.
You spend your McWagie paycheck on steam sales, Xbox live and netflix accounts.
Congrats.

you can tow shit with a saloon.
And most very active people I know barely even rely on cars.
My dads coworker that participates in long hikes, marathons and trips via kayak, gets around in fuckin bmw 2 series while my coworker that loves biking drives less in a year than I do in a month just with my daily commute. but will do 1000kilos on bike in a month.

In the rainy season you cant get within 5 miles of my cabin without 4wd. The ruts in the county maintained dirt (clay) road will swallow your 3 series, thats if you dont slide into a ditch because its as slippery as black ice. Its not just about loading a dirt bike or kayak and leaving your driveway.
Its about being able to get to where you use the dirt bike or kayak.
Your fwd shitbox on summer tires is going to get stuck in the sand with a trailer trying to get to the campsite in the dunes.
Youre going to submerge your ass end on the boat ramp and rot out your floorboard.
>you are obese and your idea of being outdoors is playing with expensive toys
The europoor mentality is pathetic. You'd be crying after an hour on a dirt bike because your arms and legs were so fatigued. You have no clue what it takes to ride.
And yes, Americans aren't poor so we have disposable income for toys.

I drove a mid-size sedan for 10 years and never had any trouble with the storage space. 15 cubic feet of trunk was more than enough 99% of the time. Dropping the back seats once in a blue moon did the trick for larger items.

I've made $600 300LB grocery runs in mine, which has about the same 5' front-to-back dimension, but a considerably narrower 4' lateral. Four dead hookers at most, packed carefully as canned sardines.. A nice, if minor, touch is that the rear seat center flips down to form a kind of console between the seats, and at the same time a 6"X9" hole between the trunk and the passenger compartment. I used it for that purpose only once, when I took 6' pieces of rebar from an Ace Hardware to make especially sturdy garden stakes. A friend of mine owned a '72 Electra, the hood of which I compared to the Serengeti Plane. Pretty weird that I thought so little about the trunk. He died of lung cancer in 2011, and even then had a local fan who eulogized him online in somewhat effusive terms.

a waterproof tarp folded multiple times will protect from tears or oil drips from loading heavy parts
it's not like I'm loading a yard of wet mulch in the back or something like that, if I get dirt or bark it will be in bags from home depot
>>
>>28836627
>>28836977
Been over this.
Its not always about getting some drywall from home depot.
Some fwd grocery getter is not going to make it through the sand to the campsite at Glamis with a trailer.
Its going to get swamped at the boat ramp.
The highway patrol wont let it up the mountain when fresh powder is on the ground and its 4wd only day.

Meanwhile a decent truck does all of that plus home depot plus commutes to work.
Everyday someone trades in their sedan for a truck and says "damn this is awesome wish I would have done it sooner".
Nobody trades in their truck for a civic and says that.

Not samefaggin, honest question for all the lads in this thread:
Stepped into a dealership recently, the Ford Mav, this year is large and in charge and 34K, small truck, looked smaller than the SUV Ford is selling.

We need a truck, my son loves automobiles and is a 4 yr old kiddo, what best truck should I get?
Buy a new Mav? Pickup something from the 2010-2015s? Lease and rinse and repeat new cars every 4 yrs?

Honestly apart from camping/road trips we wont be utilizing da truck as a truck, work commute is 3 miles oneway. But my son will soon be into motorized bikes, atvs, etc etc, so its non negotiable.

For all you truck haters, I drive a goated 06' Prius,

There are zero public streets where you can pull 1.03Gs on a turn- that's called Exposition of Speed and is illegal. Same goes with with acceleration so all those 0-60 times are only valid if youre at the track (youre not).

You carry ONE (1) mountain bike and go out on the trails by yourself like some creepy basement dweller (that you are). I throw 3 in the bed of my truck and hit the trails with friends.

Its interesting how everything else ive mentioned is ignored.
Youre not loading a dirt bike in your sedan.
Your trailer is going to bog down your fwd shitbox in the sand and youll spend the day digging out and just trying to get back on asphalt.
Youre going to flood out your trunk and back seat on the boat launch.
You dont have to worry about loading a bloody deer in your trunk because youre some liberal pansy that doesnt own guns for hunting anyways.
No friends so you never haul pallets for the bonfire down at the beach.
You'll live in an apartment for your entire life so never have to worry about cutting up downed trees from a storm and carting off the firewood.
But people with lives do all that and more.

because it's all a fantasy you've made up in your head to justify a lifestyle and identity that requires you to spend all your money on expensive toys, the obese quad cab nutruck you drive being the crown jewel of the collection and the most important representation of yourself which is why you will defend its necessity to the death
because of course the core of the modern truck LARP is that the $80k luxury vehicle you took a 72 month loan for is actually a down to earth working man's tool
most people don't need pallets of wood to have a campfire on the beach with their friends
most people don't need to own a boat or jet skis to enjoy some time at the lake/river (if they are really into boating they will keep their boat in the marina so they can use it more easily)
most people will just pay a wagie to cut up the wood the one time every few years that a big tree goes down on their property

>identity
Self projecting because youre so insecure about your own vehicle and think people judge you by what you drive.
Ive never thought about what other people think of my trucks. I simply never cared. I literally drive a truck that had a tree fall and crush the bed. I have replacement panels but its been too damn cold to work on it. Maybe this spring ill fix it. Or maybe ill drive it for another year like this. I dont give a shit either way.
But that point aside youre actually trying to condemn people for wanting nice things, which seems fairly odd.

>keep your boat in the marina
Another red flag that proves youre clueless about the world outside your parents basement. Ive been on lakes that dont even have a boat launch let alone a pier or slip. And why the fuck would i want to cruise around the same shoreline year after year after year?

I have my own 20 acre motorcycle track because ive been into dirt bikes for 30 years. I even did support for my buddy's brother when he ran the Baja 500 one year (he finished 14th in his class on a Yamaha 450 btw- before GPS was common). Youre not going to do that with whatever "car" you think should be mandatory for the peons (like yourself).
I do things daily that would be difficult, cumbersome or downright dangerous in a car. You cant even wrap your tiny little brain around that concept and it shows.

if you don't care what people drive then why do you act like people can't enjoy the outdoors without owning a truck? this entire thread is full of "if you don't own a truck you are a sedentary limp-wristed schlub with no friends" which is exactly what Ford and Chevy want people to think when they see an add for a brand new quarter ton pickup
>But that point aside youre actually trying to condemn people for wanting nice things, which seems fairly odd
if you own a truck because you think trucks are cool and want to drive and work on a truck that's fine
I own a sports car because I like cars and I like driving fast and I accept it's a luxury item and part of my hobby
I don't recommend other people buy sports cars because they don't need them, the boring truth of car ownership is most people don't need more than a camry or a 20 year old subaru or tacoma/ranger for cheap AWD

By skewers do you mean spokes? Spokes work just fine and I would rather update to a newer lighter frame than update the wheels. My bike is probably 16 years old and gets regular use on trails. I've swapped the bearings once due to being worn out and it's been fine since.
>>
>>28838703
means nothing, eurodiesels compared to a tractor have a pathetic amount of torque. a hemi will pull anything and has more torque than the current Toyota Hilux engine and its a gasser again its only limit is the 1500 frame. im not even going to touch american diesels.
>>
>>28839750
nah the actual axle, having that brake rub after remounting the tire is an indicator that you either didn't put in a brake spacer during transit or that you use one of those thing quick release skewers
>>
>>28839758
The axle is a quick release type. I haven't had any problems other than the slight rubbing if I pull the wheel off. Once the brake is readjusted it's fine. I still have mechanical disc brakes so that's also part of the problem that one pad does not move and is usually the one that causes the whine. I adjust it pretty tight though, about one or two mil from the disc.

The mentality of the poor. If $1,000 a year makes a difference in your life then you cant afford ANY car and should be on the bus until you get your life in order.
I suggest you head over to /n/, thats where your people congregate.

My shitty toyota is paid off and gassing it up is cheap. Why would I trade that for GMs glass trannies and AFMistake, Fords sludged up turbos and burning cruise control stalks, or Stellantis dropped valves and just overall dogshit build quality?

Just so I can buy more shit to never take anywhere and just take up space in my backyard? Or for the off chance I might need more stuff from Home Depot then my car can hold? I'm not too poor to just pay the $50 to have it delivered to my house and not pretend my oversized mode of transportation is in any way not just burning capital for that sake of my vanity.
>>
>>28840447
Why are you only focused on modern trucks?
Whats wrong with trucks from the 60s, 70s or 80s?
Why cant you own a second used vehicle?
Why is building material the only thing you associate with being loaded into a truck bed?
>>
>>28840455
So it won't be a boat or a side-by-side take up space it my yard, it would be some rusted heap I'm convinced is worth $15k because some idiot paid $50k for a restomodded example at Barretts.

But then it sounds like you're one of those carb weirdos. There is no point talking to you, either you lost your mind to leaded gas fumes decades ago or you're too young to remember when highways always stank of unburnt fuel and idolize that era for some god forsaken reason.

And theres the truth.
You cant imagine using any of that.
Just like you cant imagine a truck you see at a stoplight with an empty bed being loaded over the weekend.
Because YOU dont do anything you assume that nobody else does either.
You cant even conceptualize "if I did do X, a truck would make it so much easier"

Theres about 15 million registered hunters in the U.S.
U.S. & Canada are responsible for over 40% of global ATV sales.
The U.S. has more square miles available to offroad vehicles than the area of Germany.

Google what percentage of truck owners haul stuff in their truck at least once a year. Now extrapolate that to the number of trucks on the road and realize there are 100 million trucks on the road right now that could have just been a car. The whole towing/hauling use case for trucks is a cope for 80% of trugg drivers to make them feel like they aren't just burning gasoline because they want to and still have the gall to bitch when gas prices climb over $3/gallon. Are there people who NEED a truck? Abolutely. Do you need a truck? I don't know nor do I care. Does the average American need a truck? Most likely not but burgers get so catty about having their right to do stupid shit infringed on they would much rather kill themselves with smog, heart disease, and gun violence then admit they need to better control themselves.
>>
>>28840640
>percentage of truck owners haul stuff in their truck at least once a year
Ya a poll of 2,000 truck owners that were sitting on their ass on a Tuesday afternoon and answered the phone....
Those polls are fucking garbage and do not reflect real world numbers.

How many times in the last year has there been news reports of flooded roads?
Whats going to do better in that situation, your "sports car" or Karen's 4x4 crew cab F150?
How many potholes are in your city that are just waiting to eat one of your rims with your 40 series tire stretched around it? Because my 33x12.50/15 wont give a shit about it and I might even hit it for fun.
Thats just 2 examples of real qorld usage of a teuck that has nothing to do with what it can haul.
A crew cab Ram does everything a civic does and shit tons more. Its just the better choice for daily driving.
>>
>>28833072
Very simply.
I have an E91, It does the job based on my needs.
If I need to haul a lot of shit Ill
>Borrow grandpas subaru outback
>Conscript my uncle with his trailer.
>Conscript my friend with his car trailer.
>Take the work van that fits more than your trucks
I dont offroad, and I dont live in flooding prone area so no need for the ground clearance.
We salt and sand our roads and ive got good winter tyres so winter is a non issue.
If ill ever need to use a jetski or a kayak some of yall like to mention, ill just rent one with delivery.

Buying a big vehicle just because you might need like once every 7 years is idiotic in my eyes.
Good for you if you do actually need it and actually utilize its capabilities.

A Brits opinion is worthless.
Youre an actual pleb.
You've been convinced by your ruling elite thay efficiency is the most important aspect of life. You live in a 15sq/m flat so your taxes can pay for a 5 bedroom house for Achmed, his 3 wives and 10 kids.
You cant afford the displacement tax on a proper truck so you seethe at people who own them. You rent everything because you have no place to store anything.
Go ahead and post pics of your car parked at home in your single assigned parking spot.

It's like $60-300 depending on mileage, and way better than a shitty pickup anyway. Why the fuck would I buy a truck and be saddled with an obese, clunky, unfun, no sex appeal vehicle all the time instead?

truck when I gotta do Truck Stuff™. I ALWAYS fill up the gas tank, wash it, vacuum it, and clean the windows. So many people have trucks where I live. As long as you arent a fucking asshole about it and return it better than how you got it, borrowing one is literally a text message away. We just swap vehicles for the day, or they come along because they wanna do Truck Stuff™ with me.

I do not need a massive truck to get to work in back. Hell, I dont even need my picrel to do so. It fits everything I need. I can lower the back seats and fit plenty in it. Groceries, suitcases for a week or two trip for me and my girl, no problem.
Need to move my toolbox? Need to buy some wood? Need to do some other kind of Truck Stuff™? Truck owners get hard as fuck when you mention doing Truck Stuff™, because it justifies their purchase.

So true. Nothin like taking my best friend's tacoma out to an empty plot of family land to shoot cans off a fence with a .22 and drink a couple of beers while sitting in lawn chairs in the bed of the trugg. Cant do that in my camaro. Good memories.

Also on the flip side, I work on an airport, so we can get in my camaro and go screaming down the taxiway. Small municipal airport, nobody cares late at night. Cant do that in a trugg. (well, some truggs got that giddy-up but ykwim)
