yes and no. s2k snap oversteer is because of bump steer. ap1 has a lot, 04-05 ap2 dialed it out somewhat with changes to the suspension + steering, then 06 and above with traction control. personally I think ap1 + git gud is the way but it's not like the ap2 is that much less involving, just not as punishing if you fuck up

the miata is soft as fuck, even with traction control off you can lift the throttle in the middle of corners and otherwise drive like a complete fucktard and it won't be a problem

All of them? More stable when cornering despite being on worse tires. Less body roll. Whole car feels safer to pick up speed in despite not having any more means to reach those speeds than the Miata or s2000 (the acceleration times between them is near identical).

The camar isn’t faster in a straight line, isn’t relying on tires for grip, doesn’t even have an lsd at the lower trims. And yet, bitch slaps the Miata and S2000 on tracks they are both at home on.

I've never driven a stock na/nb but with the stock nd club I really had to work to get it to step out and it was very manageable when it did. just lifting wouldn't be enough, for the most part it would just wallow. I really wish mazda would sell a version of the car with a much more aggressive setup, but I guess they've determined that the boomers who buy new miatas would get in trouble and throw tantrums and sue or some shit

Don't forget a really stiff rear sway bar on the tightest setting if there are multiple. On crappy street tires that will make the rear come out non-stop, like if you're in a sweeper and tap the brake. It's really dangerous obviously but you've gotta tighten up that rear for max oversteer.

all stock versions of the S2000 are less forgiving than all stock versions of the ND miata, but the ND2 can still be pretty snappy if your inputs are caveman tier (due partially to the shitty steering feel in the ND2, the ND3 is noticeably improved in this regard, as well as having a diff that better lends itself to corner stability; also due partially to the ND's very light weight, it's more willing to shift that weight around)
this is due to the F20/F22 having actual power proportional to its displacement, unlike the unfunny joke that is a stock 2L skyactiv G, in addition to the S2K having something resembling an actual sport suspension
all of this flies out the window when the aftermarket comes into play. with cams, header/midpipe/exhaust, and a tune, the skyactiv can make the same power as the S2K's F series' (you will 100% blow up your stock tranny doing this). coilovers flatten the car, 200TW tires make up for how tail happy it then becomes, and you adjust your sway bars to strike the desired balance. obviously the S2K can be modded too and is more inclined to take more power gracefully.
the short wheelbase and yes, the light weight, both work against the ND competing at high speed; the S2K will be more stable and carry more speed in the corners and out of them. on a really tight course or autocross, the ND is inherently superior because of weight and more advanced suspension.
pretty much every flaw and shortcoming for both cars can be overcome by the aftermarket, making the question somewhat pointless to begin with. but stock for stock, the S2K is a faster car. note I didn't address abstracts like fun which is the most important factor for most, not all, non-benchracers.

ND Miata: S2000s aren't getting any younger and they're at the point where stupid shit is happening like the spindles cracking the balljoint off from fatigue and sticky tires. They're great cars but the ND is newer which means that you won't be chasing age related issues and the ND has better steering feel. S2K never had good steering.

I can buy a clapped AP1 or driver quality one with a rebuilt/salvage title for $15k or a mint ND1 (or rebuilt/salvage ND2) and the ND won't have 100,000 mile sports car problems like a torn top, worn bushings, clutch that needs to get changed, timing chain that might need to get done, or small chance of a bad rear diff/synchros.
