Do you have any friends into cars or bikes and if so where did you meet them?
I have biker friends that I see regularly on the road. We met on the road and will often stop and chat when we see each other. Whether it's a brief chat at a red light or we'll pull into a cafe and have a coffee together. We don't exchange details or phone numbers and only see each other on the road.
I have lots of friends who are into bikes and they're all named Anonymous. We met on an imageboard called 4chan.
>>28842273Yeah I'm looking for a little more than that, I see posts on insta of guys riding together or meeting up and racing or drifting and wanna get into that
>>28842279search for local clubs on facebook or something
>>28842281I've tried, mostly boomers and fags
>>28842262just as I was about to leave the exhaust shop after getting the entire manifold-back exhaust done, another customer parked nearby and started checking out the car. told me he's currently messing around with chevys but was always a mopar fan. showed me pics of all the engines he's built and what he was working on right now, and now i've got a wrenching buddy. once i get my car running i'm gonna help him out with the stuff he's working on
>>28842351Welcome to modern car culture.
>Do you have any friends
>>28842262Not my real friends, no.
>>28842277Weird.
>>28842262>Do you have any friends
>>28842262auto shop in high school. longest time friend always had neat jettas, with plans to turbo his mk4. then he bought an overpriced 4runner and was working all the time and "never had time to do anything" and got a gf so we stopped hanging out with him.
all my friends smoke crack now
>>28842262
>>28842262If Youre in Minnesota Ill hang out with you. Im 40 and have no car, also I drink a lot
I went to school at the General Motors Institute and was part of the car club and FSAE then went on to work for auto companies. Car guys have been everywhere in my life, where are the boobies?
>>28842741>Long-term strat - go into engineering to secure money to get a wife>Engineering uni - 6% female and half of those are lesbians>Engineering in a factory's cubicle farm - maybe 10% of people around are womenWell that plan didn't work out. I got another eng degree years later at another uni that was 70% female, but no women were in the engineering courses, none.I love machines and chemistry but women are just not around.I have no sympathy for the lib arts major who bitches about sexual wage discrimination while they make more than I do despite having passed thermo and diff-eq as a teenager.
>>28842737You're hundreds of miles away from me, maybe some other anon will take you up on it
I met two /o/tists and a /fit/pol/ guy in college anime club 10 years agoReally good times miss u guys ;_;
>>28842262on /o/ unironically.
noand moreover i refuse to identify as a "car guy" and hate it when my coworkers bully me for that just because i drive le spors car
Not really, no. There's some "car guys" at work that the other coworkers claiming "might even know more than you do about cars".I know fuck all about cars, but I sure as shit wouldn't believe anything they claim.
Only 2 of my friends are kiiiind of into cars but not enough that i can wrench with them. Im alone with my project car and i have nobody to share it with.
>>28842262>Do you have any friendsNo.
>>28842758Oh yeah you fucked up thinking that route would work. Tinder is your only chance now.
>Everyone ittThis is pretty sad guys
>>28843348It turns out that the people who are so socially cautious that they only post anonymously on the internet... will do the same IRL.
>>28842262I have an acquaintance who has an 800 whp MR2 that's far cooler than anything anyone on /o/ has. I just came to watch some boxing match at some guys house and mentioned my car and then we talked about Initial D. He is a 30 or 40 something engineer. We talked every 6 months to say "how are you". His car literally smokes everything up to last gen vette. Some kid tried to race me in his GTI when I was in my shitbox, and we talked about how racing is dumb. Ran into him around town. Have his number, never talk to him.I have a friend from work and we do maintenance like brakes together.I could not give a fucking shit about cars anymore, people who want to hang around for car-related activities are fucking morons unless you:a). Genuinely raceb). Are opening a car shop togetherc). Maybe building a project togetherShit just makes no sense.
>>28843411I will elaborate - it's just a topic of conversation. Some old guy gave me his sprint compressors when he found out I need to do suspension and he doesn't plan to work on his shit anymore. Guys also let me drive their shitboxes like V8 camaros or whatever because I know I won't wreck it and drive it carefully. But again, at the end of the day, if you are 16 and building a cool project, yea, go find some car friends at meets up or whatever. Otherwise it's just a huge waste of time that isn't relevant to anyone's life.Cars & Coffee is the gayest fucking thing ever. Same with random-ass car meets. Some kids meet at the park and talk about their cars - cool, if you are 16-22 or whatever, do your thing I guess. Oh, and that might be the answer to you OP, just pull up in your Miata or whatever shitbox.
>>28843411>>28843420I would like to get into racing but really have no idea how as I'm not a nepo baby
>>28843446The answer is "you won't", don't waste your time and money and focus on making money/do something else.Or you can do carting / formula Miata. There is also a guy on here who does Formula 3. Iirc he makes about $250,000 a year or something. The thing you have to understand is that this will be the ONLY thing you do in life other than work. If it's worth it to you, start carting or going to formula miata events. Even formula Miata will run you tens of thousands of dollars a year, and that's with you doing absolutely everything yourself. You can also run country roads (I am against this, etc) when they are completely empty, but if you go above 70%, you will kill yourself.
>>28843348Social outcasts are the backbone of the site.
>>28843455Thats a bummer, wish I had a local scene for spec miata
I got some of my closest friends into motorcycles back in college because it was far more convenient and economical than a car. Once I moved away they all sold their bikes though My only friend that rides and is into automotive related stuff I met at a gas station right outside a popular road. I just parked next to him to get fuel and we both happened to have supermotos so we started talking about that. Asked for his social media and we planned a ride. I normally hate riding with other people because it’s hard to find someone that matches your risk level and skill but luckily my friend I met has a similar skill level to me(he’s better) and we both don’t ride very aggressive around traffic. Been friends for 4 years now and he was at my wedding. Really cool dude and I’m glad to have met him
Yes but they are all incredibly retarded >cleaning the chain will destroy it>that 25+ year old tire is fine >the cheap chink shit carb is "already" set and you dont need to touch it>i dont need to change the 10 year old brake fluid anon>check the oil? nah it had oil in it when i bought it last year >temu handlebars, knuckles and bolts? seems perfectly safe to me! What really baffles me is one of my friends completely fucked his back badly in a motorcycle accident as a teenager and all this horrible advice is just dished out to his kid
Drunk, high,no helmet,no lights, no brakes, hit a car
I've met a few people from an owners Facebook group since I own a more niche version of a car with specific parts. And I've helped out at a couple of races where I've met some very nice people, both racers and other track workers
I don't have much of a life outside cars and bikes so naturally most of my friends are into them. I grew up going to the SoCal canyons regularly and met tons of people there, then worked at a race/track car shop and went to the track all the time and met people there, and now I'm in an area with a big off road scene and ride a dual sport and I'm also going back to school for machining and pretty much everybody there is either into 4x4s or bikes. The only real exception are cosplay people, I used to go to multiple cons a year and was active in the cosplay scene so I've got a lot of old friends from that, but I've kinda aged out of them and a lot of the friends I have from there are also into cars or bikes.>>28842741>>28842758iktf. I'm not even bad with women when I get a chance to make an impression in person but I've just bounced from one male-dominated thing to another my whole life. I've thought about continuing school into an ME Tech degree since that transfers more of my experience and credit than regular Eng but I'm sure the school is a sausagefest and I've heard a lot of horror stories about Eng job prospects these days, though maybe Eng Tech does better.
