decided to add 5 hp to my shitbox and paint the brake calipers. considering the fact that im not removing them from the car, is it better to use spray can or paint and brush? it is a floating brake caliper with, unlike fixed one, 50% brake pad showing so brush sounds like a good option because of better control, but how much superior is the finish from the spray can?
You need to remove them to paint them You need to thoroughly clean the metal to remove the anti rust treatment otherwise paint won't stick.
>>28844772>You need to remove them to paint themThe previous owner of my old car disagrees with you completely.
>>28844772>You need to remove them to paint themyeah, like i said, i wont remove the calipers. question was spray vs brush
yeah just go down to home depot and get a can and a brush
>>28844770>im not removing them from the carYou're a retard.Remove them from the car shit for brains dimwit.Prep them properly with degreaser and a wire brush, and paint them properly with primer then topcoat.
>>28844772who cares its a shitbox
>>28844811calm down, there is absolutely no reason to get pissy about any of thisfact is, im not removing the calipers from the car. period.only question was for the anons who have done it, which method do they prefer>>28844815this
>>28844834if you don't clean the calipers at the minimum the paint won't stick and they will look like shit you dumb fucking moron
>>28844834Drop them off leave them hanging brake clean mask and spray.
>>28844834Bro it's two bolts
>>28844834if you’re committing to doing it wrong why are you so hung up on can vs brush? It’ll come out like shit either way.
>>28844836>>28844842they will be thoroughly (as is reasonably possible considering they are not coming off) cleaned with pressure washer, degreaser, brake cleaner, small wire brush drill bit and isopropyl alcohol before any paint touches them
I'd use a brush. Alkyd paints can take forever to fully harden though (as in weeks), so try to avoid painting thick layers.
>>28844770G2 Paint system is probably the most popularEnamel (temp-safe, durable on brakes) paint that you brush on after brake cleaner and wire brushing the calipersI'm boutta do this to my Moostang, and it's clear you can't paint the entire caliper front + rear. You have to decide where the cutoff line is, like >>28844774
>>28844834>im not removing the calipers from the car. period. Why the fuck not you smooth brained nigger?
>>28844861g2 kit looks very compelling >and it's clear you can't paint the entire caliper front + rear. You have to decide where the cutoff line is, like >>28844774yes of course. a worthwhile trade off imo
>>28844839I can tell you from experience it's never this easy. Doubly so on a poorly maintained shit box. >>28844844Well done for sticking to your guns even if it won't give you the best results. As for what to do:Use a spray can, you'll get a more even coat and none of those embarrassing streaks, just don't forget to pack the edges and everything you don't want coated with wadding. Use masking/painters tape, kitchen roll for the upclose bit and rags for everything further afield. Two coats of spray should do it, let it dry in between. Don't worry two much about the edges. When it's dry remove the wadding and get yourself some some cheap 'artists' brushes form a kids playset or some shit, spray some paint in the cans lid, and use that to manually touch up the edges and any nooks and crannies you missed. Again, you may need more than one coat.Should do the trick, post pics, when you're done. Don't obsess over minor imperfections, 99% of people who notice them won't come within 3ft.
>>28844888>muh experience dude you're talking to someone who works on cars to put food on their table
>>28844834Spray paint them.Don't forget to cover the disks with a thick layer of grease so that the paint doesn't stick to them - this also reduces friction and gives you a few extra hp.
>>28844888you get it man. i've sunk more money on this hobby than many people here and i know pretty well when im near a rabbit hole when it comes to cars. im not going to strip a rusty old bolt and spend 2 days doing preventive maintenance just because of the >i might as well since ive done so much alreadythe facts are>this is a dd shitbox>i was given unused new old stock wheels for it>will put them on with new summer tires in a month or so>im willing to spend 50 extra bucks for paint and couple of hours to make brake calipers less of an eye sorei thing im leaning more towards spending a bit more time on taping, masking and then quickly spray painting than using the brushbtw im not sure why the anon in the thread got so triggered about it, im not painting a porsche cgt here ffs>>28844918you are a boring guy irl, arent you?
>>28844888this smells like chatGPT
>>28844908>dude you're talking to someone who works on cars to put food on their tableThat just makes you more of an idiot. You and I both know it's never just "two bolts" and do you really expect him to have the proper tools and know how even if it was? From the sounds of things he's aware of his limitations, and less-steps-to-go-wrong is right up his alley. >>28844934Is this because I was trying to be clear in my instructions. Couldn't of been the formatting/grammar because I used 'two' like a 'tard.
>>28845118no, it was the formatting. it was you starting with the superfluous double introduction of>Well done for sticking to your guns even if it won't give you the best results.and>As for what to do:and ending with those awkward platitudes
>>28845134Fair enough.
>>28845118If two caliper bolts are ever a problem for you professionally then you're woefully under-equipped for the job. Yes, I do expect him to have a ratchet and a socket set for basic maintenance. Too tight? Bigger breaker bar and more heat, in that order. Yes it is just two bolts. Get fucking good.
Bro it's literally 2 (two) fucking bolts.
>>28845249well i mean to do it right you'd have take the hose off which means bleeding it to get it onto a table and wire wheeling the bitch and spraying it properly.but like i already said its a shitbox who care
>>28845292Yeah you right anon, paint loves to adhere to dust an debris
>>28845292Put painter's tape over the hose end.
>>28845249>literally two bolts>>28845292>and the hose>and bleeding>and wire wheelingDo those goalposts come with racing slicks?
>>28845561might as well put new coilovers while there
>>28845561>>28845337
