Thinking of getting a Jimny. They look so cute, but I'm concerned about the space. Would I be able to go camping in a Jimny with 3-4 people and all their gear?

That's the one I want to get the 5 door version. More practical.

Yes, I also have a GF.

I can fill my Suburban with just my own camping gear. Good luck.
>>
>>28845133
is it even camping at that point?
>>
>>28845137
I'm not exactly glamping. I keep shit in Rubbermaid bins which kind of takes up a lot of space. I also MTB which requires a lot of gear and space.

Doesn't seem to affect quality. Maruti Suzuki has been building Suzuki's for Au market for ages. They're fine.
>>28845077
>5 door version
Agree. Wheelbase is 340mm longer. Back door makes living with it so much more convenient. I think they look better too.
>>
>>28845079
5 door is completely fine. They seem to run like cockroaches with Indian abuse. Suzuki is honourable and they build quality cars even in India.

you absolutely CANNOT go camping with 3 to 4 people in it, period. It has a tiny payload, even just 4 people with no other gear its overweight
>>
>>28846283
>even just 4, 400lb Americans
I'd take two normal humans camping in one at a push.
Most econo eurohatches will take that load with camping gear.
If OP is a tiny Japanese girl with tiny japanese friends then go for it.
>>
>>28846293
no the actual payload is like 330lbs or something

Do you need 2000lbs of camping gear or do you have 330lbs of you to haul.

Kind of crazy. 2 dudes(160lbs) and 2 skinny bitches (100lbs), and you've got what 180lbs of useable carrying capacity? Let's be realistic it's more like 200/180lbs so it's even less. Some knobby tires alone will eat that up.

yeah sure, good one.

Seriously the amount of gear you could carry in the 4 door version, foids hate camping at the best of times let alone with that little amount of stuff. You would need a shower tent at a minimum, and a toilet, and 100L of water.
>>
>>28846754
>Tires
Are included with stuff like brakes and axles as "unsprung weight", which has no effect on what your car can carry *above* the springs.

That said, people DO get caught sleeping on the effects increased unsprung weight has on the handling of your car.
In this instance, the off-road tires, being heavier, will carry increased rotational inertia that will increase stopping distances as your brakes fight with the increased mass. (Not to mention the extra leverage of a larger diameter would compound this problem.)

Heavier tires also means more force is transmitted through - and controlled by - the dampers, causing heating issues if driven over longer distances.

Yes you can but it will struggle on uphills, we did just that once with our stuff tied on the roof rack.

The suspension was upgraded so that wasn't an issue, we just had to drive uphill a long way on second gear which was an adventure by itself.

It's for sale at the moment i am actually considering it, but they ask 20k which is alot for such a used car, i'll wait a while and if it doesn't sell i'll make a lower offer.

So, when I had to go on a camping trip, I just slept in the Suburban. Why not just use the truck as your tent at that point?
>>
>>28847129
Do you take more than a hiking backpack?
You can fit 4 on them on the roof rack.

It was surely crammed on our trip but the biggest annoyance was the lack of power at certain points, the engine felt like it was about to puke its guts out.

I've done that with my Suzuki Carry truck. I don't keep the canopy on my truck when I'm not going camping, so it's a but of a fuck around to set it up. There's a current 3-dr Jimny around here with a hardshell rooftop tent always on.
>>
>>28847212
That's kind of my point; why go through the trouble of setting up a tent when he's got a truck that is one seat being folded down from being a much more secure place to sleep?
>>
>>28847246
But the Suburban owner has to drive a fuckhuge wagon the rest of the time, just to save a minute or two at their campsite. Seems like a poor trade off.
>>
>>28847262
Why is the tent on top?
>>
>>28844884

I've had a three door, it will fit four people but your space will be cramped with even the most basic camping gear + 4 People.

The roof load is limited to 30kg, and you may be over GVM for total weight.

It's a really fun car, but honestly is good for two people + transporting 2 more at most. The 5 Door from what I saw doesnt really add much more actual space for luggage (is it like 200mm?)

Also build quailty, the Indian 5 Door seems to be meh at best.

In the couple of Jimny groups in within NSW they noted surface rust on underbody and a vibrating noise within the roof panel (i think it was not applied together correctly?) This is when the 5 Door did first come out though. Its not just racism.

Of course as a comparison, for my Japan Built 3 Door I ended up doing three wheel bearings, master slave cyclinder on the clutch, the clutch pedal also never stopped squeaking after 20,000km and I drove the cunt to hard as I was getting metal in the oil at 30,000km. This was mostly highway, stock tires etc( dont fuck yourself and get a lift and big mud tires) and beach / dirt track work.

I do sleep in my burb but that only eliminates a tent. There's still a lot of other shit to bring.

I'm asking why the glamper doesn't just sleep in the damn Suburban, not why somebody doesn't just buy a Suburban. Can you even get a Suburban in the same market as a Jimny?

>>28847511
How much shit do you need to sleep in the middle of nowhere? Some blankets, an air mattress, a jumper pack, and a cooler full of bacon was all I needed.
>>
>>28847615
>How much shit do you need to sleep in the middle of nowhere?
Firewood, diesel heater and fuel, MTB gear, wheelsets, chairs, etc. It all adds up. If I'm taking a big vehicle out to the middle of nowhere I'm going to make my camping experience as comfy as possible.
>>
>>28847621
Jesus fuck, my dude. I hate nature and shit, but even I needed less than you. Why the hell do you need firewood at all? It's literally just outside. There's free wood everywhere. And then you also need a heater? Chairs? There's chairs in the car, my guy.

What kind of Suburban you running, anyway? I've got a squarebody.
>>
>>28847626
>Why the hell do you need firewood at all? It's literally just outside. There's free wood everywhere.
Depends where you're camping. Some spots are picked clean of wood. Some places just have shitty pine to burn. I like burning bougie hardwood.
>And then you also need a heater?
Have you tried sleeping in -30 temps without a heat source? It's doable but not fun.
>There's chairs in the car, my guy.
So I'm supposed to start a campfire then sit in my car?

Camp however the fuck you want but you don't always have to be doing it fully minimalist. It's okay to have luxuries to make it more fun which is important when you're camping with friends who might not be into it.

You got the 8100 in that thing? I've always been surprised by how capable the Cateyes are, especially given how many people complained about how soft they were when new. But then, people find anything to complain about.

>Shitty pine to burn
And how does that make the fire less fire-y?
>-30 temps
Why are you camping in -30 temps? And why are you hanging out outside by a fire in -30 instead of in your truck with the sleeping bag and the diesel heater? I'm just saying one or the other.
>Am I supposed to start a campfire then sit in my car?
I mean, that's where it's safest, cushiest, and, per your thing, heated by a diesel heater, so why bother starting a fire at all?
>>
>>28847642
>You got the 8100 in that thing?
I wish. Just the 6.0 LQ4
>And how does that make the fire less fire-y?
It smokes a lot and the smoke burns your eyes and smells like shit. It also burns too fast.
>Why are you camping in -30 temps?
Why wouldn't I? Should I just stay inside for half the year because it's cold out? I'm out doing winter activities all weekend so you might as well camp in a location to minimize driving time.
>why are you hanging out outside by a fire in -30 instead of in your truck with the sleeping bag and the diesel heater?
Because I need to cook my dinner and drink my beer and it's fun to relax by a fire? When it's bedtime then I retreat to the vehicle. A fire is mandatory for camping.
>>
>>28847651
You couldn't just bring a cooler full of pre-cooked food? Or just use a camp stove? How are you relaxing at -30 degrees? Just saying, you're bringing so much shit, it's almost worth just going to a hotel.

6.0 isn't a bad engine. I've done plenty with a TBI 350, and those things make no power.
>>
>>28847658
>You couldn't just bring a cooler full of pre-cooked food? Or just use a camp stove?
Instead of cooking a nice ribeye? I'm good. I do use a propane stove most of the time because it's easier than using the fire.
>How are you relaxing at -30 degrees?
Dress warm and keep the fire going hard.
>you're bringing so much shit, it's almost worth just going to a hotel.
So I can drive 4 hours from the hotel to the trailhead? Which hotels are going to let me have a fire, get drunk, ride off road toys and fire guns on their property?
>>
>>28847688
>Ribeye
It's camping, not a steakhouse. I'm getting anxious about all the shit you have to pack out.
>Dress warm and keep the fire going hard
No amount of dressing warm is going to make you comfortable and relaxed at -30 degrees, fire be damned.
>Which hotels are going to let me have a fire, get drunk, ride off road toys, and fire guns on their property?
Studio 6 Suites. But I'd rather sleep in my Midget.

I'm just saying you carry a lot of shit to do something that's really not meant to be an experience requiring a lot of shit. Maybe OP and his friends can carry all their shit in a Jimny. Odds are they don't need to carry a rifle, given that they don't sell the Jimny where you can easily get a rifle. I know that I had trouble fitting my trapdoor in my Bistro, but I imagine I could fit my 30-30 in a Jimny with four people just fine.
