I will buy a new car this year and thinking of getting fully body ppf and ceramic on top. what does /o/ think of ppf?
>>28847130why when you can wrap that shit
>>28847130I honestly think it's all a waste of time. And you mean the other way around, right? Ceramic coating and then PPF which is the plastic shit?Have fun changing it in a year or two and hope they don't scratch your shit when they do it.Doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever to me unless its your forever car, which also makes sense unless it's something special.Wouldn't do it to a 50k car I plan to sell in 5 years.>>28847163> not going raw
My car is 150k and I didn't want to pay 10k to wrap it. Feels like a scam. It's been 2 years and it's fine. Dr colorchip for rock chips and buffing for the scratches from washing.
>>28847130Ceramic looks amazing.PPF is fine. I have a bunch on my car that’s 12 years old and desu it looks like dogshit now and some highway rocks even got through it. I’d say go ceramic and just pay a body shop to touch up the paint every 5 years. It’s probably less expensive and it will look better.
>>28847184>I have a bunch on my car that’s 12 yearsdude wtf. you need to change it at least before 10 years.
>>28847188Yeah but whats the god damn point is my point. You spend several thousand to put on some shit to keep the car looking good but that actually ends up looking like shit every 5 years so you end up fixing that instead of the paint. It’s useless and doesn’t save money or time
>>28847191>so you end up fixing that instead of the paint.yeah thats the point. the ppf takes the damage while the paint stays pristine. that's exactly its intended use.
>>28847195The point is to keep the car looking good. The ppf don’t look good and costs money and requires maintenance. You’re better off just painting the paint and skipping PPF.
>>28847191Unless you have some special color, there's no point. It's not going to help with resale because no one else cares. I have a basic guards red not some pts color so I decided against it. My friend's m3 ppf looked like shit after 6 years. If you lease, there's no point. If you keep long term, you have to keep paying someone to take it off and reapply. Seems like a giant waste of money.
>>28847211>You’re better off just painting the paintnow that looks like shit. >>28847221if you are crying about 10k every 5 year you probably dont have a car that would need ppf anyway
>>28847251Bro lol. Go ppf your car then. I’m telling you it’s a shit solution to the high rock chip problem. It doesn’t look good especially after two or so years. It’s not worth the money. A proper touch up every five years is less expensive and looks better.
You have to change the film every few years. It starts to yellow out after a while if it sees the sun a lot. Tiny air bubbles can form which really fire off my autism. Replacing the film can damage the paint underneath and really takes the luster away. Cars come out of the factory with a protective coating that comes off with the film. If it's your daily, I see no reason for it. Just accept that your shit is going to get chipped and scratched from debris on the highway.
>>28847130Ceramic is the better option, but I'd say PPF in certain areas like the side skirts or heavy dirt areas at the bottom of the paint would be worthwhile.
>>28847251kek>>28847440I just do ceramic myself, dr colorchip, and will repaint the hood and bumper in 10 years if it looks like shit.
>>28847456I have an aversion to repainting, it will never be as good as the original paint. I can't even tell the difference on my car but my mechanic looked at a panel from a distance when I first brought it in and said "that place did shit work". Normies can't tell but it seems like mechanics and shops can all spot a repaint from across a parking lot.
>>28847130I decided against it. I figure if I still care about keeping my car looking pristine 10+ years down the line, I will either trade in for a newer model or pay for a full repaint of the vehicle, which fixes any scratches and dents as well. But most likely by that point I will simply be in the market for a new car.
>>28847460The biggest tell is excessive ‘Orange Peel’ its a texture in the paint that is very similar to the fruit in texture. Caused by poor preparation or rushed work.
>>28847130I don't know, I feel like that is a wrap and you have to be careful.
>>28847720Other way around. Factory paint is notorious for orange peel as they can't use the solvents they used to. BMW in particular is notorious for factory peel.
>>28847456>basic 911>probably flappy paddle automaticYeah like I said, not worth ppf'ing
