Why can't I find something from American car brands like in the early-2000's? Are all the fun cars just gone from the market? Why can't we have a small, two-door, manual gear, rear-wheel-drive V8 or something fun like that? I remember cars like the Pontiac GTO which was really amazing. Did USA really just forget that there will always be a youth generation and just stop making fun, sporty cars?

Everyone's poor now.

The “””GTO””” was neither a real Pontiac gto or American. It was an opel omega with an engine the actual opel omega should’ve came with but the Germans couldn’t figure out pushrods. The mustang still exists, and all honesty, a used 4 cylinder sixth gen Camaro will be more fun than anything you can find under 40k.

The fun cars didn't sell. Everyone decided they preferred shittily-handling Urban Assault Vehicles for some reason.

I thought it was a Holden? Either way still muscle car and a fun one

How many times are you going to make this thread?

The US never recovered from the malaise era.
>GM drinks the FWD Kool-aid and shits in the mouths of Americans by releasing the Cadillac Cimarron; it then kills the B-body for a full lineup of disposable FWD shitboxes
>Dodge tries to force FWD as well with the Omnis but they don't hold up
>Ford drinks the FWD Kool-aid as well but spits most of it out before making the Mustang another FWD shitbox
>Camaro and Firebird were on a platform from the '60s
>Cars like the ZR1 and Viper GTS were already expensive when they were new
>GM tries to revive RWD with imported Aussie cars and never markets them
>Shoahs the car market with C4C

the Japanese were busy making an affordable Ferrari F40 for the masses with their Nissan 240SX in the 90s- only for cokeheads at GM scratching their heads at why it was so popular internationally. Then they decided to make their own car, but only in aesthetic and not in performance or driver feeling.

Makes me wonder why Nissan spiraled into bankruptcy in the 90s if they were selling F40s that were so globally popular.

Middle class has no buying power to get cars, let alone a third car for fun.
Boomers have money and they want old people shit which is crossovers.

It’s actually even more sad because zoomlennial families need big three row cars because car seats are fucking huge these days and you can’t actually fit 3 car seats in a thing smaller than a full size sedan/SUV yet go look at the market. There’s 4 variants of sub-mid size crossovers from every brand and only one model with 3 rows and those are $70k.

The situation is worse because EV R&D is so expensive that companies all went with one size fits all modular platforms to make all their cars and the suits all want maximum profitability. So if you look at VW they don’t even give a shit about customers that loved the rabbit or the turbo diesel jettas. It’s all variants of the Tiguan. Now go look at ford and a Chevy and Cadillac and Honda.
It’s literally all fwd crossovers that boomers want to so they can get in and out of easily. Literally every company spent billions trying to be Tesla while also making old people aimed fwd crossovers bc they can charge more and old people have money.

It’s actually pathetic how stupid the people running these companies are. They don’t get the Porsche only cool because car fags love them and talk about how great they are when normies ask for their opinion on cars. VW was the same about golf’s and gtis and beetles. And Honda faggots and the S2000 and Toyota fags and the shitty annoying Supra 2JZ.
If you don’t sell cool shit your company isn’t cool. These companies are run by women who literally don’t even like cars. Look at how feminine Cadillac is right now. It’s ’lyriq’ and ‘optiq’ and ‘let’s take the Cadillac’ and a 22 year old African American females driving around NYC ‘LETS TAKE THE CADILLAC’ is the tagline. Fucking yikes

all industries in Japan were faltering after 1989. Those 90s Nissans are still being cherished today

that era of holden commo/monaro was platform shared with vauxhall and opel in various applications. they all derive from the same 1994 opel omega B design, which you can see in the doorhandles of all the variants, including the Catera. it “persisted” for much longer than it shouldve in Australia because the australians could plop NA OHV V8s into it, unlike the germans

when the GTO got brought to America it was a very old platform. 10 years old by that point. the interior aged well, especially compared to the 2004 new edge, but it paled in comparison to the refreshed 2005 mustang. and in typical australian/german fashion it has quirks like having the gas tank in the trunk or extraordinarily thin paint or the most useless IRS on the planet. these make it generally a good car on paper but a bad car IRL.

Those were actually better-built than most of GM's offerings. Naturally, it meant a fate worse than death - becoming another GM rebadge.

i think the bigger problem is automotive journalism. Everyone compares their cars to their dad’s porsche or their Miata. i recall an article from 2017 when Ford re-released the fusion sport and the journalist was excited to test a “domestic Audi killer.” Only to show up to the test, where Ford proceeded to demo its pothole avoidance system. The journalist left disappointed in a 325 hp sub 35k AWD sedan, which by any standard would be a sporty affordable car, but because it wasn’t as nice as the $60k Audi it was a bad buy.

Look at how the Charger and Prelude have been received. They may have hilariously missed their price target, but both are lambasted as being terrible despite clearly marketing to a lower class clientele. These are not Miatas nor Porsches, and shouldn’t be compared as such.

Those F40s by Nissan are worth less than 80s GM today. Doesn’t seem like they lit the world on fire.

No one except white people with more money. Compared to the Hispanics from “the world over” that drive whatever that is supposed to be.
