Why are non-Americans so allergic to engine displacement and cylinder count?
Aussies aren’t. Makes me wonder how many more American engines we’d see under the hoods of European cars if it weren’t for displacement tax and diesel subsidies. The European auto industry could’ve been so much better.

Australia is proof that if it weren’t for displacement regulations, manufactures would naturally gravitate towards higher capacity engines. Especially for industrial and performance robust power delivery matters most. Imagine if Japan had no displacement tax. The Supra would’ve came with an optional V8 and so would the Skyline. The only reason Toyota developed their V8 was for the American market Lexus brand. Nissan developed theirs for racing. The japs know displacement is king, they just can’t shove it into everything like Americans and aussies can.
