UK anon here. What are good second cars. My current and first car is a fiesta zetec 2007. I am willing to spend around five grand on my second car.
>>
Get ur back wheels in a tranny m8
>>
For 5 grand you may as well not and just wait until you have a lot more as for 5k the upgrade sill either not be much or it will be knackered.
>>
£5k puts you into a lot of very good cars in the UK but it’s up to you to decide:
>what are you willing to spend on taxing it, insuring it, fuelling it and keeping it running
>do you need it to get to work or do you have other options for that if it goes wrong
>how many doors/seats do you want
>how many miles do you do and how much does the MPG matter to you based on that
>do you regularly do some activity that means you need space or luggage capacity (taking your mates to rugby practice, mountain biking, whatever)
You can get a *lot* of car for £2500. £5k will get you something nicer, but don’t feel obliged to spend all your money. Basically go figure the above out and go on AutoTrader and work it out from there. Avoid anything modified or for sale in places you wouldn’t want to live

At your age (I’m assuming young) I would be tempted to become a banger man. Old Mondeo, Accords, E46-E90 3 Series, Audi A4 quattros can all be had for a tenth of that at minimum

Get whatever the fuck you want man why are you asking us?

>What are you willing to spend
Im getting my second ncb hopefully so insurance shuld be manageable and fuelling is okay as long as its petrol
>Work or pleasure
Both
>How many doors?
4 doors
>How much mileage
I drive a lot and sometimes go long distances as I find it peaceful and relaxing. Preferably I would like a car that gives me more bang for buck
>Any space for storage?
Nope. Single, no family and I go to the gym locally via walking. The car should be something thats good for one person but ideally has 4 doors as I might have to help friends on night outs or something.

NTA, but if you don't do your own repairs, just stick to a somewhat new-ish (10 or so years old, give or take) Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc., etc. Maybe get a performance version of what you have now, like a Fiesta ST, but from the previous gen. BMW's, Audi's, Mercs; they're great while they're working, but can be fucking huge money and time sinks when it comes to labour, which is fine if you can wrench and are willing to deal with the various Germanisms, but a complete ball-ache for wrenchlets who must pay the piper. I think the only real exceptions are older BMW's like E46's, as they retain a reasonable amount of simplicity while still being very premium, but you have to remember that the newest E46 is around 20 years old now; unless you find a well cared for example that's been religiously maintained, it'll likely need a fair few bits doing as time goes on, and ideally you want to be driving your car, not watching it on a lift from a Halfords viewing bay.

>t. owned 6 BMW's, 2 of which were E46's,

NTA top, but doesn't car prices start spiking then with both being ULEZ compliant and normies think new reg = fancy

Miata is always the answer but at this price it will likely be a bit rusty.

You could definitely get a clean NB/NC for 5k

Not really. Euro 4 became a legal requirement for new petrol cars in 2005, so most, if not all post '05 petrol cars are ULEZ compliant. Even certain older cars are still compliant, such as E46's; both my 330 and M3 were compliant despite being an '02 and '04.

Lexus IS. Cheaper to insure than the equivalent BMW, cheaper to run, nice drive and built by Japanese so it won’t explode. Plenty on AT for sub 5k in good nick with less than 100k on them. They can be expensive (for what you get) on road tax but it’ll be negated by the reduced costs elsewhere
>>
>>28850681
At that price point I'd rather have one slightly better car.
This isn't like having a Toyota SUV and a Miata for a second car.
>>
>>28851586
Pretty sure he means a second car to *replace* his first, not supplement it.

OP here. Yes this is what I meant. Im going to sell my zetec and hopefully get a more modern car with higher specs. Im kind of fixated on fiestas, because originally the model I wanted would have been too high on insurance. Now that i got some experience and going to gather a couple of NCB’s i can afford something more expensive. Should I go for the Titanium or ST line.
