As a 30 year old straight male what can I expect from buying an NC Miata? Any problems to look out for?

Why didn't you ask this in /mg/?
They're fine. Easiest Miata to Rotary swap.

Men will hit on you, I hope you're flexible on the "straight" thing

I had one for a few years. People genuinely thought it was like a Ferrari which was funny. Nobody gave a fuck about my RS5.

NC is my least favorite.
I'd rather go for a ND1 if you can stretch it or a NB
>>
Cheapest cause it's the "least popular" for being a boat but it's got a more spacious interior than the NA/NB plus more airbags. Retractable hardtop is easy to service and would be my choice of model. Some might bitch about the weight but unless you're tracking the thing it's still a comparatively very lightweight car.

Exterior NA/NB is subjectivity better looking to me, but the price has really climbed on them over the last ~5 years. ND will give you a more refined driving experience, but go for a 2019/ND2 or newer so you get the improved transmission and extra power. ND3 has an improved LSD that you'll probably only notice if your tracking it or driving a bit too spirited.

If you're not located somewhere sunny and warm check the rocker panels near the rear tire wells for rust. Also stay away from first year models (2006).

Get used to having conversations with old men and broccoli hair zoomers.

also get used to chasing leaks and replacing gaskets all the time because mazda made them out of foam instead of rubber.
the plastic scuttle panel mounts that are directly into the path of water draining down the windscreen is an objectively terrible design and they're a bitch to get out. Just did my passenger side last weekend.
I have water coming into the boot again from the drivers side taillight (pulled the carpet and plastics out this afternoon and there's a huge puddle there plus condensation inside the light) which means replacing the gasket again (I've already done both sides 4 years ago).

facelift models have a forged crankshaft and rods + stronger pistons but they're pretty strong engines regardless.

I want to follow up. The NC hardtop was an awful GT car. So god damn loud and crammed in there on the highway. If you are doing regular 1 hour+ long trips I’d look at like a Z4 or something that’s got a little more going on. It’s really annoying to not be able to hear the stereo and also not be able stretch or move much.

Are you a top or a bottom?

I don't think highway driving is a strong suit of any generation Miata honestly. That said I rode a motorcycle for years before getting my first car, how much road noise matters is subjective. Running wider sidewalled tires does a lot to mitigate some harshness.

If you look at the pricing of a good quality NA/NB you'd probably be able to find an older Porche cayman or BMW roadster from the 2000's that's within the same price bracket. Will be much quieter if that's a priority.

Rotary swap it like mine!

NA/NB - Bottom
NC - Verse
ND - Top

Pics friend?

Yeah I liked my Miata but I wanted to make it known that most cars are pretty good for highway driving. The Miata is not. It’s worth factoring in.

STFU with the swap bullshit.
