My question is- if someone wanted to do a roots supercharger on an s197 Mustang for example, what would need to be done to the engine beforehand?Surely more would need to be done aside from just buying and bolting on right? How much money are we talking?

If you want something street-drivable with a blower stack, the easiest way is to run a Holly Terminator or equivalent TBI setup that bolts up to a carb flange on top of the blower. Chop the throttle plates out of a bird catcher and stuff a filter into the scoop. Not like you're going to do it anyways though. If you're dead set on supercharging it, you're better off with the drop in Vortec kit.

Remember your car has a solid rear axle so you won't be able to lower it very much with 18" wheels and if you lower past a certain amount you're really going to want extremely high spring rates so that your rear axle isn't bottoming out into the bottom of your chassis. A good way to have nice wheel fitment is to go with 19 or 20" wheels, they will be large enough to not need you to slam your car to the ground just to have nice fitment, like you would with 18s. That way you can buy a nice inexpensive coilover kit without worrying about building specific spring rates to prevent your rear axle slamming into the chassis
