Nobody is buying them, boomers just set an insane price tag and hold it until they either keel over or accept defeat and trade it at a dealer.
>>
>>28862457
Its not that the car is expensive it is that the dollar is that devalued,
In 1973 6000aud could buy you 140 ounces of gold, worth about 1 million today.
So the car is worth about 1/5th the price it was new if we go by gold value which you should.
>>

220000 dollars is still alot of money lol

yeah but the average wage currently is 1.2m so for 220k its 1/5 the cost when new
>>
>>28862676
Not exactly how it works, no. Average wage now is about 100k and a car like that built today would cost around 110k. Other ones on CarSales are also around the 150k mark as well and that is a more accurate price than what the boomer OP wants.

That's fine to do, I'm talking about them being LED headlights, not the original halogens that came with the car. LED headlights and DRLs on a 70s car looks retarded, especially on a muscle car.

Yeah that's a big no kek. I remember there was some fag in my city that had a Holden Caprice (the WN) and changed the parker lights to have a red bulb on one side and blue on the other. I can only imagine how big the ticket was.

I think they probably figured the lights on your bike were OEM since bikes do some strange shit sometimes and it fits in with yours. That and most people really don't care about bikes or their oddities.

ironically the front blinkers are white. even if they were orange, there's no way in hell they could ever be mistaken for them. look up selective yellow. it's a VERY distinct shade of yellow. the closest photo i could find from a quick search is probably this one, it's very similar to the right side in pic related, but photos really don't do it justice, when you see it in person you'll know there's no way to get the two mixed up.

Orange marker lights on cars isn't that unusual either, a lot of Euro cars from the 90s and 2000s had small amber markers before the standard white DRLs replaced markers. They also remained common on US cars from the 60s will into the 2010s.

The big issue also became that to get warranty work done at the dealer, they'd have to drive it back to QLD themselves as we had no official support in NT.

There's also a lot of regular shopping brands that don't operate in NT either, a lot of businesses just don't consider the investment to be worthwhile.

Probably not, they didn't make many XB GT coupes and its had an engine swap.
So at that point its more or less just any other XB coupe in terms of being special, I mean they are cool cars but they're not 200k special. They have always been fairly expensive though, like the last XB coupe I had was a 74 Landau with all the nice power-everything, 4-bucket seats, 351 and that was in 'ok', 2nd owner original condition. What benefit is there to going 10 or even 20ks over the limit? You're not going to get to your destination that much quicker unless you're driving for over 3 hours straight which most people arent. Say you're doing 120 for 3 hours and you have to stop to piss or to get fuel, well there goes the time you saved from doing 120.

The speed limit is just an arbitrary number.

setting the limit really high would also make it really easy and quick to overtake slower traffic. no more 10 minute australian overtakes. but you'd need to make "keep left unless overtaking" a religion like it borderline is in germoney.

suburban roads here are going the same way, they're gradually going down from 60 to 50 one by one. More and more 50s are going down to 40. They probably wont be happy until there's a blanket speed limit of 25 on all roads everywhere except the freeway. God knows there's enough nervous drivers out there that would still do 10-15 under the limit (Mazda drivers)

NTA but that's not true, I drive the Adelaide-Melbourne highway a lot and it's pretty much 110 almost the entire way into Melbourne and on other surrounding highways like Geelong, Bendigo, random shit on the East side etc.

>suburban roads here are going the same way, they're gradually going down from 60 to 50 one by one. More and more 50s are going down to 40
Assuming you're Adelaide based like me, truth. It's fucking insane how many familiar roads I've been driving for a decade are suddenly getting limit drops. A few 100 roads are also dropping down to 80 in the hills.

We're also the only state in the country with a 25kph limit, everywhere else does 40kph for construction and schoolzones.

That's the other half of the problem innit
Its been left in the hands of retards in local areas making up the speed limits of anywhere between 40 to 100km/h wherever the fuck they 'think' a speed limit should be instead of addressing a problem they can't enforce or repair, they create more processes and policing which is aimed to compound the retardation over time into an unmanageable pile of shit.

Faggy as it sounds, it makes me reconsider electric for just a runabout work car. I've had to drive some EVs around and it'd be alright as just a work car, just plug that electric bussy into your house overnight and you're ready for the next work day. It previously only cost me about $6 a day when I had an EV for work but my work was also less than 40km from my house so it didn't need much charging.

I had a 1977 toyota ke30 corolla about 10 years ago which is pretty much the exact same car as the 120y. At the time I drove from Adelaide to Port Broughton and back on $20. Noisey from the lack of deadening and for the size of the car uncomfortable but it was hanging out at 100kmph with the AM radio blaring. At the time I was interested in 1970s fuel efficient cars and i was looking at 120y's too but they were expensive even then for what they were. My second option was a Gemini diesel but none came up. The cheapest was a ke30 with a cracked head that i learnt alot about car repairs with while sorting it out. These days i'd be interested in a 1980 3cyl Suzuki Alto/800/Hatch but those have been boomer taxed too, yet i feel theyre not on anyones radar necessarily so one might come up accidentally for $300 and i can have a muck around with it because they dont have the coke bottle styling or chrome bumpers to key someone into thinking theyre worth more than they are.

This is all to say that their impressive fuel economy is real at the tradeoff of only really having bad road noise and only really comfortable if you have an asians frame and height. But also they were always sortof expensive. Even ke70's were expensive back then because they were the number one car to be skidded into the wall or become a 4age project (99 percent of those projects stalled and the car scrapped or defected or otherwise written off) because they were the last of the common rwd corollas

>>
>>28868148
ive seen pretty much every swap under the sun for a ke70 at this point. It helps that they have a relatively large engine bay and trans tunnel for what they are and for a long time they were legitimately cheap cars with cheap parts, it was a great platform but like with any cheap hobbyist car that enters the racing scene they evaporated quickly. I dont go out of my way to look them up anymore but the last time ive come across a ke70 for sale it was a skid pig at the wreckers that already had a 3.8 v6/4spd auto from a VN commodore that supposedly ran and drive for $1500 and that wasn't even the first time ive seen that swap done on one of them. The trick with converting a 4cyl shitbox and covertly driving it on the road was to always use v6 motors because they dont have the same v8 rumble that would tip someone off that something was different + the lighter weight didn't compress the front suspension so much.

I was more of a ke30 guy purely for the styling but ke70's were the fan favourite. I think it was because they might've had a coil sprung rear end rather than leafs from memory? or they had more space to work with or maybe the boxy styling is more popular im not sure but the ke1x, 2x, 3x, 5x were abused but not nearly to the extent of 7x's

Size would come into a lot of it, they're not very big cars and there's really not a lot in them either so if you're going for some kind of project its all really simple. Not a lot of chassis rigidity but that caan change with some reinforcements. From memory the 30's all the way to the 60's were all leaf springs and interchangeable so the 70's with the coils probably helped a lot. Plus it can give you more options I guess when it comes to cutting down another type of axle and diff from a later model car to size to support whatever power and ratios you want to throw through them.

>>28869175
There was a few for 7500 with twice the mileage, but thats still about 3k more than they really should be.
Probably some former taxi-spec ones around at auctions but they probably had much harder lives and I reckon they're probably keeping value for parts alone like the battery pack and motors. Not that I think they had much in the way of trouble with those
>>
>>28869177
I think some of the battery packs are giving up if some YouTubers are anything to go by. So maybe this is a riskier choice than I'd hoped. I've also seen some Chevy Volts going around but I think those are even riskier since GM seemed openly hostile to support parts on them.

Honestly I could grab a BMW i3 or maybe a recent model Leaf for under 10k, I'd do it. I'd still prefer the Prius for the meme but not for 7 or 10k.
>>
>>28869178
10+ years for any kind of rechargeable battery is bound to be getting sketchy and some would be getting close to 20. That's just for regular static packs so rattling around on the road, hot, cold cycles and general thumps once in a while would be bound to kill some cells. That and the chemistry just gets tired.
The i3 is probably the better bet, sort of Smart-car sized and easy around parking lots, from what I remember about the Chevy's they were very poorly regarded by a lot of people and GM are cunts so its probably something of a money pit and death trap all in one
>>
>>28869181
Yeah seems like the i3 and Leaf are the lone options for a small EV/hybrid. I'm a bit surprised there isn't a market for this anymore, you'd think the Chinese would release some ultra cheap little EV city car.
>>
>>28869103
Is that Latrobe valley in the background? Deadly
>>
>>28869182
The smallest was the BYD Atto but they're slightly smaller than a Leaf and very cheap, much better range though and all the fun of a Chinese Liveleak video
I think they where going to be lowballing them in around mid 20's for new, which is pretty murderous
There was also the MG4 which was a lot more upscale than any of the others, course I just couldn't really say if China-MG is any good to their customers or complete cocks
>>
>>28869203
I see a lot of MG3s being used as work cars with logos and other shit on them, so I have to assume they're treated alright if businesses are dealing with them.
>>
>>28869205
They certainly sold enough of them, especially during the coof when about all you could get were Mazda-3's and BYD's, everything else had a waiting period of about 2 years
A few neighbours of mine were trading in their full sized SUV's and 4wds for small BYD's during that period a few years back, which considering the overpriced shitboxes they used to drive, scaling down to a cheap shitbox probably saved them quite a lot

doing upper engine clean, maf sensor clean, spark plugs and fuel filter today
woohoo...

i know a bloke that bought an mg suv whatever it is. it was surprisingly decent when new but hes had it for about 4 years and the interior is already starting to age and his strut tops or something have gone already too

I've been repairing my car after a crash, had to weld in a new radiator support and replace the radiator and condenser.
Got a brand new bumper, bonnet and lights. Just hoping to save my fenders, they're curled up on the corner from where the lights got shoved into them. Do smash repairers still actually repair panels or do they just replace them? I know they do dent repair but this is not a dent.
>>
>>28869770
It depends entirely on the severity but crumpling is usually a lot more difficult than a simple dent. You can also just request them to do their best with no guarantees on it being perfect.

If you're able, it would probably be best to just find new fenders and get them repainted.
>>
def needed the maf clean, one side was filthy. throttle plate was pretty bad too. ran half a can of nulon upper engine cleaner through it now and the idle is much smoother already.
its good when simple stuff makes a difference kek
>>
k&n filter didnt fix the knocking issue on the falcon on start up so think it might have a dead lifter or something. any other ideas?
>>
>>28869863
If it's truly a lifter, it could be freed up with some high rev driving. But if that knock is anything else, get it towed to a shop ASAP.
>>
>>28869865
its had plenty of high rev driving so maybe not then. it only lasts about a second of cranking before oil pressure builds up. if i give it a pump on the throttle and hold it 1/4 itll fire immediately, knocking only lasts about a quarter of a second then. how much of a dry start is acceptable idk
>>
>>28869867
Probably worth just getting a shop to look at it and find out what's going on.
>>
>>28869874
fair call. sick of spending money on the cunt tho
>>
>>28869877
Yeah but with a proper diagnosis you can make some decisions on what to do or how to get it fixed. It could be something simple or it could be something where driving it for another day would've destroyed the engine, it's hard to know with knocks unless a pro takes a look.
>>
>>28869882
yeah ive found a place that specialises in motors like that so ill contact them tomorrow. ive been driving it for a while and it hasnt had oil pressure issues or knocks once its going but ill lay off it for now. finally fixed a bunch of shit on it from previous owner so i was looking forward to being able to drive it again but nope. He had the pcv set up wrong so it might have had too much pressure in the case and fucked something
>>
>>28869888
Yeah a look is a good idea. Hell, maybe it's worth having a full inspection so you can have a list of shit to fix instead of just finding it as you go along.
>>
>>28869895
im sure i havent found everything yet. some of the stuff old mates done on it is ridiculous

Based E30 enjoyer. Does that little tape looking slot hide the USB port and aux port? Very cool if so.
>>
>>28869911
Yeah it's all behind there.
The real thing is like $750 so I'm happy to make some concessions in audio quality for that
>>
>>28869902
Some people do some full retard fixes. I saw a lot of weird shit on my old car, lots of electric tape and other strange shit was everywhere. I also found some weird tube with a sensor inside covered in tape and eventually figured out it was the washer bottle level sensor, but for some reason he removed it from the bottle, taped it to display as full and then tapped it to the inside of the fender.
>>
>>28869918
Yeah aftermarket is fine imo, especially when you get a really minimalist unit with lights that fairly closely match the interior lights. That unit you have looks really nice.
>>
>>28869919
kek yep thats basically the same shit ive been fixing too. he'd taken the pcv hose off the valve and blocked the end of it with a bullet casing to stop the vacuum leak, but left the vacuum lines for the egr valve completely open when he put a new 700$ manifold on it to fit his 150$ ali express carby
fixed all that shit over the last few months as ive been finding it and now it knocks...

Depends on the car. Some of those 00s and 10s cars that have screens but no CarPlay or Bluetooth Audio are annoying, so I can understand having hidden media units that plug into the original system, but aftermarket units can be fine if done right.

My old E32 came with the fucking ugliest aftermarket unit that had bright blue lights and I ripped that shit out as soon as I could and replaced it with a Blaupunkt similar to pic related.
>>
>>28869933
those dont bother me becuase they look period correct so it looks like its meant to be there but yeah an 80s car with a JVC thing flashing in rgb especially in some single din adapter really suck. its a shame those blaupunkt ones are so expensive
>>
>>28869936
They're expensive now? That's a shame. I got mine for the E32 about 10 or so years ago so I guess shit has changed a lot since then. You could find them on eBay for $150 or $200 for a good while.

I just feel like repainting 2 fenders is gonna cost more than bending a corner back and feathering the edges.
>>
>>28870014
theyll probably need to be repainted anyway if they have to be bent back into shape. can you post a pic of them?
>>
>>28870014
If they're crumpled and messed up like you say, they are likely going to need repainting. The paint can crack when molding it back into shape.

>>
>>28869939
oof. continental head units aren't too far off though, brand new looking at 350-450 bucks for one. makes me glad i got mine off zuckbook for 100, kid just wanted to swap to a double din unit.
>>
>>28870045
Fucking shame, I want one so damn badly. I had an early 10s when I was briefly in the US and I loved that thing. I did see the Yukon Denali is going to be sold through GM here but is going to be $160k which is fucked.
>>
>>28870051
yukon is the same car as tahoe. or at least used to be. its nice theyre here but theyre new shitters and gonna cost way too much anyway.

i nearly got a really nice dentside f100 single cab long bed with a cammed 351 cleveland in it a few years ago. showed my dad the listing and he said he would go halves with me on it, then spent 2 weeks thinking about it and not commiting before finally saying no, then it sold the next day. i had the money myself should have just bought it
that was a few months before post malone released the f-one trillion album and the prices sky rocketed FUCK YOU DAD

It's a more luxury trim version, so that's where the extra is going. Regular Tahoe would've been more like 100 or less.

Someone also said the LCT is going away so maybe that will start to help with the prices of imports and I can finally have some American shitheap SUV in a few years.

>>28870070
I'd prefer one of the early 2000s Blazers, they look sort of like a Tahoe but smaller. I've seen some around but prices vary and some people put really gay wheels on them.

lol i doubt the gov will get rid of any taxes. we'd be lucky if they dont bring more in

They're not really crumpled, I *think* they're in good shape other than these corners, they just need bolts loosened and some repositioning. Because the left side has been shunted back there isn't enough of a panel gap between it and the door.
>>
>>28870268
if its not lining up with the doors the frame rails might be fucked. thats alot less worse than i war imagining a panel beater could def fix that and touch up the paint but if the frame rail is pushed in it could be a big fix. what car even is that
>>
>>28870282
Frame rails weren't even touched. the bolt holes have a lot of play in them by design so you can adjust panels.
