Now, I don't mean to sound like a pussy, but how important are airbags?
This thing does come with a roll cage and there's some side protection, but it completely lacks any airbags. If I were to crash at spirited speeds how fucked would I be?

You'd be dead as a doorknob, that's part of the fun anon
>>
pretty fucked.
a roll cage has to work in conjunction with a proper harness and a helmet
otherwise its not protecting you

just don't crash bro

>If I were to crash at spirited speeds
Surely the race track would have enough run-off area so you don't hit a concrete barrier or anything.
Unless you're talking about "spirited speeds" on public roads and risking the lives of everyone around you. Cars are weapons. If you want to speed then do it on a motorcycle so you only kill yourself and not any innocent bystander.

But I'll bet you don't have the balls since you're asking how fucked you might be if you crash in a steel cage without airbags. lel

the lap belt is NOT just fine. use the shoulder harness.

All safety gizmos and nannys should be banned and really send the road toll through the roof. When cunts start killing themselves en masse behind the wheel, the survivors might begin to understand that driving a car is dangerous and pay attention to the road rather than a phone, tablet or whatever screens modern shitboxes have now. Treat driving with respect

>Drive NA MX5 on wide semi-slicks
>No ABS, TCS, airbags, side-impact strength at all
>Extra taco A-pillars, clutch plate 1.5 diff

I may be a donor, but they'll be lucky to find my teeth if I snap oversteer into the canyon.

It isn’t the lack of airbags you’ve got to worry about. Even in their most tame trim these were cars with more HP/Ton than a modern 911 Turbo, but with absolutely no aids whatsoever

Airbags are the least of your worries. There have been some anons who have owned TVRs here but none of them post anymore and it is probably because they’re all dead

Airbags aren't *quite* as important as seatbelts, but they're still pretty a pretty damn important part of keeping you from making out with the various parts of the car. If you're that worried, you'd probably be best off installing a 5 point harness and a bucket seat - this will hopefully keep you in place and stop you being launched around the car. That being said, fatality rates increase exponentially with speed, regardless of seatbelts and airbags and such, so the real solution is, as a Wise Man once said, "just don't crash bro".

You should probably quit being a donor next time that comes up, there a lot of really sketchy shit around organ "donation"
>>

Airbags aren't important, at all. The government assumed that nobody used seatbelts, then forced this retarded bullshit on us all. All they do is break your nose and eardrums and blow a facefull of shrapnel at you. By the time they explode in your face, the seatbelt already stopped you.

This is probably true. Think about it this way: seatbelts went from nothing, to lap only and only in the front, to lap in both front and back, to three point in front and lap in the back, then finally three point for all seats.
Yet somehow, in a similar time period, airbags have not significantly expanded their general requirements. There's still no rear seat airbag req, still no side airbag req, etc.
If airbags were really that crucial, it'd probably be in all seats by now.
One of the things stopping it is the danger to children. It will literally kill a child. Had they been shown to be really reduce injury/death, they probably would've figured out and required child-safe ones for the backseat by now.

This is such bs. Bike accidents can easily crash other cars or kill pedestrians. Get the fuck outta here, bikefag.

if you're driving a tvr i think you've already made your choices.

you know how some cars say 'SRS air bag' on some parts of the trim? SRS is safety restraint system, emphasis on system - all components are designed to work in conjunction with each other. that's why you get fuckwits that either maim or kill themselves in low speed collisions because they were too stupid to use their seat belt so they smacked right into the air bag as it was deploying.
if the car had a roll cage and belts but no air bags it's more than likely designed with that in mind so you'll be fine.
3 point belts already make a huge difference from lap belts. But then seat belts with airbags is just a few percent difference in survival rate which depending on whom you ask, every bit counts, or it's not worth it
>>
>>28866017
The airbag stops you from crashing into the steering wheel.
If you've got a proper harness you don't need one. But if you're using a regular seatbelt, it's something you definitely want to have.
