Just started driving a new car with Android Auto and this thing slapsI can get Google Maps and my music right there on the car's infotainment screen, and on the dashboardAlso I discovered that you can download offline maps in Google Maps on your phone ahead of time, and then use those offline maps for satellite navigation in your car. So you can avoid using any mobile data while using satellite navigation.Any of you got good tips for Android Auto / CarPlay?
>>28867367you're a faggot
Metrolist
>>28867435>trusting (((YT Music)))>relying on phone data to stream your slop
>>28867367>So you can avoid using any mobile data while using satellite navigation.lel, are you from the past? nobody has ever ran out of mobile data in current decade.
>>28867367>this is how the average normie feels about new carsever wondered why new enthusiast vehicles are shit? this is who is paying up for new cars. this is what impresses them.
>>28867480I like Android Auto, ventilated seats, heated seats/armrests/steering wheel, 360 camera, blindspot lights, and steering wheel audio controls in my 0-60 in 3 seconds gas vehicle. It is awesome.
Android auto is nice, I just threw in some Chinese head unit and it works great. What's also nice is it has Apple Carplay in it too if someone wants to plug in their iPhone. I mainly use it for maps and music. I haven't really found any other functions I would want to use. There is an app that can get you local radio stations but eh.
>>28867502>There is an app that can get you local radio stations but ehhuh? you need an app for that? your car doesn’t already pick up local radio stations?
>>28867511How could it when the head unit is in android/apple mode?
>>28867367Waze is better for maps if you have it in your country. It will alert you to more hazards, speed cameras or police and also works when you don't have a destination set.
>>28867480This is not a new car thing. I have this in my old car and you know what? Its actually better. And i'm not stuck with some shithouse manufacturer head unit and software so i'll just be able to slot in a new head unit if they ever come out with a killer feature that I want.
>>28867435>>28867455OP here, that looks cool although that would use up my mobile data so I'll just stick with local music on my phone (which it seems you can play through the YouTube Music app which works with Android Auto, or there's another music app called Musicolet which also seems to work with Android Auto)>>28867472I have a cheap phone plan with limited data because I like to save money>>28867480>>28867489Personally I don't need stuff like heated seats but Android Auto seems genuinely useful, although I guess I could just get a phone holder for the windscreen and use navigation that way. As for 0-60 in 3 seconds, that would be great, but alas my car is much slower
>>28867565I don't get this, Google owns Waze so I don't know why they maintain both products.
phone integration HEAVILY depends on implementationin my 2025 BMW it's nearly flawless, bar some infrequent connection issuesI rented 2024 Buick encore and the thing was almost gimped when CarPlay was used, but worked ok when android was used, which is no surprise since the car has android autoandroid auto OS in the car is THE cancer, it's a real shame BMW is onboarding on this shit with iDrive 9 as well
My car has wired carplay only and I ain't about that life. I'll probably look into getting a wireless adapter at some point, but I'm not in a rush.
You have to hate it because millennials said so.
>>28867974Millennials fucking love it though. We had those cassette to AUX bullshit 10 years ago. I love these head units.
>>28867972Pop in the cable and you're on Android/Apple AND it's charging? Wireless is a con more than a pro to me
>>28867977Can confirm, put a Sony XAV head unit in my 1981 shitbox with Android auto and it's easily the best part about the car now. That and the 2kw amp w/ 5.1ch sound system.
>>28867480auto and carplay being advertised constantly always makes me rolls my eyes. even when im scrolling marketplace and i see people mention an aftermarket auto/carplay headunit i just hard pass on it and keep scrolling. if i bought a car with carplay id gut it and resell the headunit for a stock one, but ideally i just want the stock unit as is and add aux if i had to.
>>28868006The last car I sold I advertised it saying that the original CD player was already removed and ready for any head unit to be installed actually helped it get sold I think
>>28867565Waze seems to have a really shit small team working on it. When I try to log into it it says "no account found, please make a new account" but there's not an option to make a new account
>>28867578>I have a cheap phone plan with limited data because I like to save moneybut even the cheapest plans have more than enough data. or are you from a third world country?
>>28868411nta but I buy $35 prepaid Androids and mostly use em on wifi. I, uh, get angry and break phones a lot; went through 5 phones in the last year (threw two through the fuckin' wall). Why spend $1,000 on a phone that's gonna die any day?
>>28867978But you can still plug in with wireless, you just dont have to.
>>28868006Lol retarded contrarian
>>28867599Its very common for companies to own multiple competing products.
>>28867367>Google decided to drop Android Auto support for Tablets>Can't navigate and watch videos/play games at the same time on a large screenFuck
>>28868571Pretty sure it's intentional that you shouldn't be watching videos or playing games while you're driving. People still find workarounds though.
>>28868558I mean that's fine, my personal preference is just wired
>>28867978The USB ports on modern phones are garbage and can't handle much more than plugging in once a day to charge during their lifecycle. I've killed multiple phones' ports, both Apple and Samsung, because with Carplay/Android Auto you end up plugging your phone in at least twice a day and often many more times if you're in and out of the car a lot. Even with a good phone it's gotten hard to get USB cables that are reliable enough to stay connected too. I bought pic related Aluratek Carplay adapter when my last phone's port died and it's surprisingly held up pretty well for around 3 years, just the occasional glitch out that's resolved by unplugging it and plugging it back in, and that's only maybe once every month or two.
>>28868419>Why spend $1,000 on a phone that's gonna die any day? This nigger spends $1000 on flagship phones out of pocket that my mobile carrier gives to me for free, no monthly payments either. Get gud, scrub.
>>28868573I understand as a driver you shouldn't, and I hate the usual nigger in their altima swiping Instagram while driving. But on a car can also have other people in it, having my wife/family setup whatever convoluted route on a roadtrip is great while they can also enjoy a match of smash bros or watch whatever shit on youtube.
>>28868214this isnt a bad idea tbqh
>>28868560im not contrarian to be contrarian, i prefer it this way because it minimizes distractions. all i really need is the radio and a garmin and occasionally aux.
>>2886748010 pity points have been deposited to your special snowflake account.
My 2019 Kia has a really good built-in navigations with better UI than Maps so I use that. Also automatically connects via bluetooth to my phone and music starts. Means I don't need to do anything really. I keep a USB cable in the arm rest so I charge while I drive. I think this is the ideal set up for me. I could buy a wireless dongle for Android Auto but I prefer sticking to native OS.
I need a head unit that has a good microphone. No one can hear shit during calls when I'm driving.
never buy a Mercedes. They practically make it impossible to swap head units
>>28870262>All I need is this bloated way of doing the same thing
>>28870309I completely understand leaving everything stock if it's a legitimate classic car, but in like a 2007 Corolla? Fucking go for it, slap a new head unit in there.
>>28870309its not bloated, its actually quite simple. the radio does its thing and if i need navigation the gps is in the corner of my windscreen. very little need to look away and still looks clean. god forbid i cant go 5 minutes without some kind of phone connectivity.
>>28870375>I need multiple devices cluttering my car because I got the vague notion that I'm supposed to think "screen bad" despite the fact that I'm actively emulating the functions of that screen.
>>28870395its literally just the gps and the stock radio. barely cost me anything.
>>28868006I decided to use the hands-free in the head unit I swapped in, it's nice for taking calls and that's it.
>>28870438my car already does that so i really dont have much id need to modifyhonestly, since the next car i plan to get will be older and have a simpler head unit i might swap it out to something with a bit more functionality, since it'd lack aux and the handsfree calling like that.
>>28867502there's a screen mirroring app you can get I think, so you can connect your obdmx+ reader to your phone, customize your gauges, and display them on your infotainment (no need for 90s gauge clusters + basically free)
