Now that the dust has settled for over a decade, was the new edge better than the s197?
>>
The S197 was at an awkward point in technology where it's not slim and simple enough to be classic, but it's not advanced or refined enough to feel truly fresh. The SN95 is solidly classic and has iconic variants (SVT Cobra R, Terminator, Mach 1, Saleen S281). What did the S197 do other than appeal to washed up boomers? It gets some credit for the Coyote, but otherwise, meh...

People tend to forget the groundwork for the Coyote started with the SN95 with the '96 Cobra when they switched from the small block to the 4V Modular from the Mark VIII. Also I know people love to parrot that SN95 interiors are bad, but S197 interiors are worse IMO. The dash is straight hard plastic vs soft touch in the SN95, they both have door card problems but at least the SN95s don't de-laminate.

Will a New Edge or SN95 Mustang ever be worth a significant amount of money ever?

>better
no

yes

every gen mustang felt way less sloppier than the previous

this includes early (79-86) vs late foxes (87-93), late foxes vs sn95s, sn95s vs new edge, and new edge vs s197

i'd argue s197 is peak mustang, they got even bulkier and more isolated/less fun after but they're still a gigaleap over the new edge in both performance and handling/drivability

Depends on your definition of significant amount.

Performance wise the GT was barely quicker than the New Edge GT and the GT500 wasn't any quicker than the Terminator Anon. Sure the S197 suspension is a lot better, but they were hundreds of pounds heavier too.
