I'm sure people always come in here and want car suggestions. So I'm going to do you guys a favor and make another one.I'm on a fixed income(disabled) and got a sizeable backpay. I'm looking for a reliable car in the 5k-10k range. I don't want to spend thousands every year in repairs. But I also want a somewhat sport car, preferably a coupe as I'm the only one in the car. Some models I was looking at were old Volvo 240s and old BMW E36s. I really LOVE the box style of those cars. It just makes my brain tingle and I want one.I heard BMW has lots of maintenance costs, so I'm leaning towards something else but man I really want one.I'm really not fixed on these cars and trying to find other models to include before I make a decision.I think the attached image is peak car design.

>>28870677Yes, but that's not what I'm asking. I'm trying to find models of cars that fit my description.
>>28870678No, you find models of cars that fit your description.
>>28870659>reliable >don't want to spend thousands every year in repairs>old Volvo 240s and old BMW E36s>heard BMW has lots of maintenance costsdont buy 30-40 year old cars expecting reliability without costsstuff is either gonna break down or youre gonna need to do preemptive maintenance
>>28870682This, but also the expensive BMW maintenance meme is more of a new BMW thing, old E30s will practically run forever as long as you cater to their every whim, which comes with the territory of driving a 40 year old car.The M10 and M20 engines will go extremely far and endure ungodly amounts of abuse before complaining, but they're never going to throw in the towel and call it quits.I've tried multiple times and you can't kill the old SOHC bimmers by driving them. That being said, ancient electronics, rust and more rust will be your main concerns with E30s.
>>28870659Go to your favorite used car site and sort by price lowest. Go through each page until you find something that looks like something you would like to try. Then do a quick google search to find out what to look out for with that model.
You're not going to get a reliable sports car under 10k, gramps
>>28870659You must really actually be disabled.Buy a mid 2000s Toyota or Honda and take your dented self back to the bus stop
>>28870659V6 accord, I bought a pilot with my gibs, great engine
>>28870659That might not be as crazy as it sounds if you're basically going to drive the car once a week and are going to do a whole lot of your own maintenance and repairs. But something Japanese or even domestic that's maybe 10 years old would serve you a lot better. If not, think real hard about maybe making payments on a new compact if you can possibly swing it. It is very hard to beat the TCO of a new compact if you're putting 15K miles/year on a car. Poke around on the Edmunds' TCO calculator and see. Something up-to-date with a manual will feel plenty sporty.
>>28870659Buy a corolla and stfu. >but I want a cool carYou can't afford it on a fixed income because:>I'm disabledYou can't work on your own car, which means you shouldn't daily drive something 30-40 years old which only specialty shops will touch.>bmw maintenance memeE36s and earlier are probably lower maintenance and more reliable than a new camry will be when it's decades old. M50s and earlier were basically forever engines as long as you didn't neglect them to the point of overheating or running out of oil (or neglect the timing belt).
>>28870659Miata. You're the only one in it no need for seating. Bullet proof reliability and and half ton lighter than anything else you can buy in its price range. You might be able to buy s faster car for the cost, but not a more enjoyable one. Late model Miatas are actually quite fast.b
>people suggesting GoyotaOP wants something fun and cool looking. Not a boxy jeet Uber appliance.
>>28870659You seem to have tempered expectations for performance if you like 240s and E36s, which is helpful.Trying to keep boxy, I was gonna recommend something like an old Celica or Supra, but the Gayest Faggots of All Time are trading these for like, 20k now, just like the Mitsubishi Starion and its Conquest twins. I found one with 164k in the US for $9,900, manual.Notably, you could get into a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe for a bit over that money. I think if you really want something good, you should save a little more and work up that budget to around 15k. Unfortunately, anything that doesn't require a full on engine swap to hit 60 in under 7 seconds is usually trading slightly out of your price range in unraped condition.
E30s are too old now and are verging on classic status. I've got a 325is and it's going to be a nightmare to restore. They are rewarding cars to drive though, I hadn't driven one for a while before I purchased my 325is and it's amazing how modern it drives. The Mercs of the period feel like shit in comparison. If you're interested in going the Volvo route, have a look at the Volvo 242. Not many people know that Volvo tried to built a luxury coupe to compete with the W123 280CE and the E30 in the early 80s.
>>28870659>I'm on a fixed income>a reliable car in the 5k-10k range. I don't want to spend thousands every year in repairs.>old Volvo 240s and old BMW E36sHoly fuck, refer to the chart. You are not prepared to overhaul everything on a 30 year old vehicle. For instance, the entire cooling system on that era of bmw is a consumable. Buy a civic.
>>28870659>I want a classic carNo you don't they're shit tbqhwy. There's a reason people come here to shit on everything expensive and brag about how easy to work on and how much money they save not owning a new car. It's because they're poor and have to work on cars nonstop. You think the average normie knows how easy his f150 is to work on? Lmao fuck no. It's literally not his problem.
>>28871536OP is broke and can't work on his own car so he can't have anything cool. You must either be able to work on your car or afford to pay out the ass for specialty shop rates in order to have anything cool
>>28870859V6 accord will smoke a old bummer and is dead reliable, it's the only onswer
>>28870659miata
>>28870659Do you need to it be fast, or are you just after a good looking coupe?> Volvo 240I assume you're just after something that looks cool. How about a Honda CR-Z?
Are you too crippled to ride a motorcycle ?
