Why are GTRs turned into drag cars so often? I wouldn't think a car known for destroying clutches is a good tuning platform. And if the most powerful builds have swapped engines, what's even the purpose of it being GTR and not something lighter or cheaper?

Because there's a whole scene revolving around it.

Did you know that Top Fuel dragster V8 engines have an incredibly short lifespan, often designed to last for only ONE run down the track. The entire engine, which produces upwards of 11,000 horsepower, is torn down and rebuilt between every run, which takes only few seconds.

While some parts might last for 2-5 runs, crews typically replace pistons, rings, rods, and bearings EVERY run to prevent failure.

They are a good platform for it that's why. And the most powerful builds still use the VR38..

Is the GTR that hard to work on I watched a lot of YouTube vids where say they most shops won't touch them and even the dealership has to send stuff back to Japan for repairs

Extremely good at putting power down
Extremely low drag coefficient
Quick DCT transmission
Engine can take a lot of power

I wonder OP

>GTRs
relatively cheap and powerful car
>drag cars
lowest skill floor motorsport, just buy an expensive turbo and pay a guy to install it for you. going around corners requires some driving skills, any idiot can mash the throttle on a built drag car

They're pretty hard to beat. Pic related has street tyres, it's street registered and on a street surface, with a modified original V6 engine and transmission.

Don't forget to shallow stage so you can start launching before the tree gets to green.

Those look like slicks with beadlocks on the back.

There are 5 second street legal cars that can drive from track to track with a trailer. You can also build a fairly stock looking 8 second F-150 for a hell of a lot cheaper. High power GT-R's are good for consistent runs but that's about it.
