ITT: We post cars that look American but aren’t
>>28876752
>>28876752pasta machine still looks cooler tho
The last Fairlane also looked pretty American imo.
Kinda cheating because it's Opel (GM/Chevy, but Europe), but fuck me if the old Rekords, Commodores and Admirals weren't SEX.Pic related a Commodore GSE coupe.
>>28876911Is that Japanese GTO?
And here's a Diplomat, they came with chebby veeayte engines and some 2 speed powerglides and turbohydramatic 3 speed automatics. If memory serves they initially had some weird 4.5 litre GM V8 engine and later a 5.4 litre.
So American looking that they imported them to the US to be rebadged as Chevy's and used as police cars briefly.
>>28876911the generation following this one had big headlights that just looked weird, almost bug-eyed. I feel like they would've looked better with the rectangular sealed beam units or quad 5.75 inch sealed beams
>>28876919Redwalls are sexo.
>>28876939They'd be the 283ci and 327ci engines. Not so weird.
>>28876972For us euros they kinda are because most commonly we'd get and see the 5 litre and 5.7 GM V8 in Caprices and such.
>>28876935Fairlane
>>28876948Honestly I kinda like it, it would probably look pretty neat with a normal grille and if the car itself was wider like an American one. There's a lot of cars I'd like to see how they look with newer spec headlights, like when you've got a body that's all SQUARE and ANGLES other than the round lights, or has odd flat areas that make the round lights of the time look lost. Like imagine a first gen Monte Carlo with 7x6 sealed beams instead of 7" rounds floating out halfway to the corners. It looks weird, but I think part of that is my lacking GIMP editing skillz.
Ah herro, I hear you ryke Mustang.
Europeans like the mustang so much that they made their own.
Some of my favorite cars are the '70s Japboxes that directly copied American cars but were ~60% the size.Picrel is late 70s, it was more noticeable early-70's but you can sorta see it here.
>>28877109There's a lot of cool jap stuff from the 70's, the Mazda RX3 is one of my favourites along with the Galant
>>28876914>>28876919These are the only ones that pass as American, the Caprice might too if you're not Australian and don't instantly recognise it as ours.>>28876932>>28877109Might pass if it wasn't for the hood mounted side mirrors. >>28877063I rabu you Celica
>>28877078Burgers liked the AC Ace so much they used them to make the Cobra
>>28877122Burgers can't turn.AC still exist and are about an hour from me.It is a make to order operation again.
My personal favoriteDid you know? The 1G viper used these mirrors.
>Matsuda Rotary eXperiment numbah 4>>28877112>the Mazda RX3 is one of my favouritesSame.
>>28877109i would love to daily a c110 gtr
>>28877145>c110 gtrI think most of us would. That's some hot shit.Unfortunately only 197 were ever produced.
>>28877150yeah true. it's just the shape of it is so fucking good
>>28877122Burgers didn't care about the AC Ace, which is why they didn't buy them. They already had the Corvette, which europeans also copied.
>>28877078Europeans still copy the mustang to this very day.
>>28877169Those were great. Tiny but pilot sits on the wrong side..Fun.
Easy mode is posting Australian cars, when I saw a foxybody I thought what sort of falcon is that?
>>28877145I had the Australian 240K (4dr) which was the same body. Really nice car. More comfy than the similar year 260Z. Pic is my old Rx-3. Never thought of it as looking American, so there you go.
In the 70s a lot of Japanese cars were exactly that.>72 Toyota Corrola
Spanish - Dodge Dart Barreiros
>>28877202hell yeah
>>28877264I thought they owed more to the Euro cars. Each to their own.
>>28876972>>28876985what is weird is opel put these car/engine configurations to the test on their autobahn and realised they sucked. they had enough power but they lacked in terms of lubrication for extended driving at full throttle. americans think of themself as fast drivers but thats never been the case, they are just average, germany still have no-limit autobahns and many other euro highway stretches effectively have the same. so cars sold here even if its a 1,2L or a 5,4L must be able to do so for extended periods. the stock gm327 couldnt so it went through some mods by opel to cope with it before it got put into the CAD series for sale. thats why you rarely see them today, they got butchered by hotrodders who wanted that modified v8.
>>28877281>americans think of themself as fast drivers but thats never been the casein most states of the US, people are doing 15-20 above the limit, even the cops. hell, sometimes you can get pulled over for doing the limit simply because you're going so slow that you're a danger to everyone else.in europe there's only one country that has an autobahn
>>28877274taurus, scorpio and falcon all look similar
>>28877281Meanwhile australians used these same engines in opel omega chassis to BTFO europe in endurance races. Australians were always better at building european cars than europeans.
>>28877118The late 90s and early 00s Holden Statesman had a pretty US look to them. Little wonder that they were badged as a Buick in China, it looked a lot like some late 90s American luxury car.
>>28877325Looks like the Buick Regal, only it sends power to the correct wheels.
>>28877281They're called KAD - Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat
>>28877311Australia is the synthesis of the Europe vs American car dialectic
>>28877264>>28877295They really do, check the EB Falcon wagon and MK1 Scorpio/MK3 Granada Wagon.
>>28876698>ford>not american
>>28877593>not americanyou've been living under a rock this past 20 years or what?
>>28877596All Fords are American
>>28877751your own post says ford is a global brand with american originsretard
>>28877751Would you also call Toyota american, then?
>>28877381Fuuuug the diplomat is such a clean looking car. I want one.
Even came with a Chevy 327 option.
>>28877846I prefer the front on the 2nd gen, but I'm not sure those came in 2-door form.
>>28877751>are American>not sold out to Chinksnice cope faggot. I am never buying Mexico crap or Chinesium kek. 2020 supply line shortages should have shown you
>>28877340Yeah pretty much all our cars were RWD. The last Magna and last Commodore were both FWD and sales flopped immediately.
>>28877923the VF2 was fwd?
>>28877928No, the ZB (which isn't really a Commodore but it remains as the final stain on its name). These things were on sale for only 2 years before they got pulled from the market.
>>28877930i dont remember this at all, looks like a mondeo lol
>>28877928Which also reminds me, the final Magna kind of looked a bit US style like a late 2000s Dodge or something. These only lasted 3 years on the market.>>28877940Yeah they were very short lived. I see a handful around sometimes but people really didn't like them, so the majority were fleet cars for the government.
>>28877940they're shit if that makes any difference kek
>>28877940It's an Insignia (Opel's Mondeo competitor) that they decided to call a Commodore for some reasonPerfectly adequate cars, but not a Commodore
>>28877135An AW11 but terrible in every single way.
>>28877930After the VF's it was so mediocre they may as well have not bothered in a market that just wasn't buying much in sedans to begin with.Sales of those were so low it was kind of crazy, you could get some in a V6 AWD but there was no V8 and I don't think any manual versions either. Not that was much of a deal breaker when it came down to it because one wanted them.
>>28878255idk this looks pretty english to me
>>28878243Yeah, no manuals or V8s and the AWD was about as good as it gets. I think sedans probably still had a chance if they didn't try dumping some rebadged FWD car instead of something actually good. Even without a V8, just something RWD would've still had more popularity than that thing.
>>28878260I really think Holden probably made more missteps reading the market than nearly any other brand, if they'd begun some domestic production into a good quality mid-size sedan and maybe a mid-size SUV they could have hung on for a bit longer, but people kind of knew they were just in it for the gov-gibs for the last 3-4yr.Another problem was they kept going with the badge engineering on the pov-pack, bottom of the barrel south korean stuff and it was really all dreadful, cheap, nasty and diminished their brand, goodwill of Holden customers. People looked at the Holden badge on most cars and rightfully associated it with a dumpsters like the Captiva. They nearly got it right with the Colarado and Equinox but it was really too late by then- they needed to be in the market much earlier
>>28878243Should've just called it what it was (an Insignia) instead of trying to appeal to Commo nostalgia desu
>>28878267>People looked at the Holden badge on most cars and rightfully associated it with a dumpsters like the Captiva. True, I was looking at them the same way in the end with a lot of those turds.>They nearly got it right with the Colarado and Equinox but it was really too late by then- they needed to be in the market much earlierIf they'd come to the market with something like the Tahoe or Suburban, they might've stood a pretty good chance. Ameriboos here have been going crazy for the Silverados and Rams, so some American SUVs would've been a slam dunk. And for sedans, even just the Impala would've probably done alright. Still no V8 but at least it was a V6 RWD and looked better than that fucking Opel.
>>28878274>>28878275People in Australia will totally buy a V6 RWD, but it was proven time and time again they don't like it in FWD and even the Toyotas in that format really struggled in that segment over the years. Most of them sort of relied on fleet sales to big business and government so once that wasn't as much of a factor it was a miserable private market sales. Plus a of fleet sales for people on the road had switched over to mid-size SUV's around the 2010's as they just had more room for all the AV gear, products and other stuff people lugged around, without being any worse for drive-ability on highways. Fleet realised long ago you don't need a V6 or V8 for highway business driving, they could get away with 4cyl stuff like the Outlander, Rav4, X-trail or similar>Tahoe or SuburbanOh hell yeah, people love them (I don't!) and would have jumped all over them for dragging shit around like half a kids soccer team, horse trailers and being a poser on building sitesAs much as there's the 'we're not american' sentiment, we'll eat that massive truck shit all day long and don't care how foolish we look :)
>>28878275>Suburbanthey did come in with them but it was probably too soon. also they chug fuel like a motherfucker
>>28876698I'm a real Jeep guys, I'm definitely not a Fiat.
>>28878302>Oh hell yeah, people love them (I don't!)The Suburban is based.>As much as there's the 'we're not american' sentiment, we'll eat that massive truck shit all day long and don't care how foolish we look :)They look alright on work sites. I see a lot of Rams and F150s on construction sites lately (commercial more than residential) and they fit right in and they do actually haul shit in the trays.>>28878307Way too soon. The Tahoe would've fared better since it was slightly smaller and made more sense for where we were at for the time. But today with those giant Silverados and some F350s (yeah the big fucks) they would fit right in.
>>28878307Those late 90's ones were also just not real good. The petrol V8 was ok but the diesel was a bit fucky and it was going head to head with the 100-series Landcruiser which had a pretty impeccable reputation. They also had the Silverado and Sierra from that era in trucks that might have done better as well, people love a tray even if its a bit garbage
>>28878310>F350swow didn't know they sold them here. a whole bunch of listings on carsales too. I wonder if they're also what those towies use because I see quite a few of them with these trucks that look like they're from the 70s with the tow equipment in the back.
>>28878314Yeah the F350s are used for big shit, so I've seen them towing things and sometimes at construction sites with a lot of stuff in the tray.
>>28878314A lot of towies used to use the F250 as well, I think Ford might have sold some here in the 80's and a few later on as well. Many came over as private imports too and they were hugely expensive.
>>28878317There was actually a lot of importing by Ford and Chevy back then, most of them are all just regional and are mostly on farms or that kind of thing and people don't see them often. Some of the strangest shit I've seen is the Ford Excursion, I'm not sure if they were private imports or not but I've seen a few IRL over the last 15 years and sometimes see them for sale. Very rare.
>>28878320Dude I've known since I was a kid made a business going over to the US and just bringing over big yank trucks and mall-crawlers, 4wds and the odd performance vehicle. Convert them to RHDPeople do use them because they often have braked-tow ratings upwards of 5000+kg which is pretty useful for country people. When there's the horse people with lots of cash or even just farm stud owners taking critters to shows, they all prefer to DIY it instead of hiring a truck and driver.
>>28878275>And for sedans, even just the Impala would've probably done alright. Still no V8 but at least it was a V6 RWD and looked better than that fucking Opel. Are you AI or a kid? There never was a RWD V6 Impala, at least not in the past 41 years.
>>28877109Nissan seems to be the biggest westaboos

50s vauxhalls were honorary american cars too
Nissan j ferie, my beloved, guy who designed this car designed the original boattail buicks iirc
>>28877787It literally says Ford is an American car manufacturer headquartered in the United States>>28877806Toyota is Japanese silly.
>>28878611sold as an infinity in the US
>>28878608>american carWhen they did get one, they a far better job with it than we did.
>>28878611>>28878615Always thought these things were a little weird-looking but also strangely pretty. They do kinda look like '90s Rivieras if you squint.
>>28878604Nice. Love those white flares. Always thought the [CD] Cosmo had that malaise style all locked down.
>>28876911Nice, I want to drop a 455 rocket in it.
>>28876948That's fucking beautiful.
>>28879070Love these cosmos the most, even got a diecast of it imported from japan, i love vinyl/ landau tops>>28879547sex
>>28879191They look gorgeous in two tones too, found a model kit video where it was painted with onehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0qsFOjBpgA

Vauxhall Cresta
>>28877751Everyone who is American is British.
>>28880431fairlanes are substantially better cars
>>28879548>Cosmo diecast That's gorgeous. I only have a little Tomica one.
>>28880558thats plenty neat, tomicas from that era goes for quite high in pristine condition sadly, I just hope they bring back the casting with their new tomica reborn series, what I like is that japan makes diecasts version of their most obscure cars while America just kinda leave theirs to be forgotten which sucks
>>28877169Always thought these looked a bit like a C3 Corvette from the front.
>>28881694GM owned Opel, so that was probably intentional.
>>28879552one with whitewalls
>>28876698>>28876914Aussie cars are just American cars from an alternate universe

>>28881842that's an 89-93 Infiniti q45 before the 94-96 facelift
As an Aussie I'd like to drive one of these if I was in the States.
>>28877122More like Carroll Shelby was insane and wanted to find the smallest car that could support the biggest V8. There's a reason he's still a legend.
>>28876776How,
>>28882276I'm tempted to make one look like the US version but I also don't want to be one of those Chevy badge retards. I suffer. But I still think it would be fun to have those cop spec wheels with the center caps and a pushbar on the front.
>>28882446>fun to have those cop spec wheels with the center caps and a pushbarAgree. Those caps were probably on other Chevy's.
>>28882611If they go down in price a bit more (which maybe they will because of fuel cucking) then I might finally get one and get those Chevy wheel caps with some black steel wheels.
>>28876698If you don't GM executives saw the Rolls Royce in the 70's and introduced the style on the Cadillac Seville and later Caprice.>>28876972They were going to continue the Kingswood with a similar body, looking back it would have been good since early VB Commodores didn't age that well and they could have kept the Commo smaller.>>28878243People I know who had them loved them. Any other brand and it would have been way more expensive.

It really is a same Vladdy didn't go for this over that 300C looking Aurus. The ZiLs were cars so American it could only come from Russia.
Semi related but in the opposite wayWithout two-tone paint the 8th gen f150s look almost soviet
>>28880363Konishiwa
>>28886699
>>28877930Looks just like an American Buick Lacrosse from 2017-2019, probably the same car
>>28889859It is. GM shipped that turd out worldwide as a Holden for Australia/NZ and as an Opel for UK/Europe. It was absolutely loathed here in Australia and was pulled from the market after only 2 years, nobody wanted a FWD 4cyl to replace RWD V8s.
>>28889869was it actually a bad car though? There's an AWD version for sale near me and it has all the features, even cooled seats. I've been thinking about it desu
>>28889869>>28889876Also I forgot to mention but the one for sale is a V6 with 300hp
>>28889876If you can get it cheap, sure. The AWD is the only version worth getting and being fully kitted out is a worthwhile. If it was just the FWD, I would say no.
>>28890688
It would fit right in with Ford Couriers and Chevy LUVs.
