I think there’s a lot of contributing factors that continue to make American motorcycling more dangerous than European motorcycling, and I wonder one contributing reason is because the average bike here is lower and darker colored than the average bike abroad

last night I had a nightmare
that I bought a brand new Tenere world raid then there is a monsoon flooded on the street
all the cars and other bikes just stop before the water cause they cant go obviously
then they all look at me then look at the flooded road then back at me goating me to go cause my T7 could theoretically go over
so i blast my way through, stall in the middle of the water and fall over
then I woke up almost pissing me bed
>>

>there are many factors
>umm but what if something else is also a factor
Are you retarded ?
Driving is also more dangerous in America, the average American is a worse driver (I should say “the average person driving in America” they are mostly not American)
The average motorcyclist is also more poorly trained
The average speed limit is higher, which is a major factor in an accident being fatal
The helmet standard is worse
More people drive drunk
There’s a myriad reasons.
And I think “low, difficult to see motorcycles are more common” may be among them

We are physically a massive place with a fuckton of varying hazards and wildlife. It's simply more dangerous to live and ride here. It's just the nature of the beast.
>>
>>28880336
That sounds impressive but actually it’s not always been more dangerous, and it’s more dangerous in our major metros than in Europe’s major metros, which are, except for non American drivers and other factors mentioned, broadly similar to Europe’s metros.
I don’t think there’s anything intrinsic to the American landscape that makes it more dangerous.
We can also see this in % single vehicle crashes. If it were more dangerous bc America is big and full of hazards, we’d expect a larger % of single vehicle crashes, but both here and in the EU we see about 30% single vehicle crashes.
Because of higher speeds, worse helmets, poor training, these are more likely to be fatal in America than in Europe,

Sounds like an AI typed this, not a rider. If you know you know if you're over there then there's nothing to be said that can convey what most deal with here.
There's just more roads here, more wildlife, there's probably the same amount of risk with either cities but American statistics are skewed due to those backroads from long crusier runs across state lines and deep mountain roads. Add boozer crusiers, unlicensed riders, and helmetless ones and you'll always have a higher fatality risk.

Europe is also more strict so there's less delinquents compared to America so that will also contribute to the death stats.

Who has the webm of the motorcyclist getting eaten by a bear? Perfect example of American wildlife.

What, the price? Tariffs, friend. You know, Taxes.
25% tariff rate under 2025 IEEPA and Section 232. (this is supposed to go down to 15% someday)
Plus 50% extra tariff on the retail value of the steel and aluminum content of the motorcycle because HTS 9903.81.91
The buyer pays these taxes PLUS the finance cost of the tariffs because American Honda (an American company, btw) has to pay the tax when they bring the bike in the country, but they don't get that money back until the buyer pays for the bike, so there is a finance cost as American Honda essentially lent you the tax money for a few months. Plus there is the management and accounting costs this all causes. The buyer pays for all that.
It's all the Federal Government taxing the consumer.

it's a massive plus for me because it means that both levers activate the brakes instead of having a clutch lever and a foot brake.

twist & go is simply more intuitive, especially for a guy who has been riding bicycles all of his life. that's me.

>I find [CHANGING GEARS] more engaging that twist and go.
Engaging means distracting. If you're mind is engaged on the task of changing gears then your attention is distracted from the road and all the Karens on the road.
If you want change gears and be immersed in riding at full pace on smooth tarmac without Karens then do it on a race track but if you need to focus on the road and all of the potential dangers on the road including Karens and potholes and pedestrians and illegal aliens then choose the twist&go option so that you can give the road your full attention.
Distracted driver die and changing gears is a distraction.

If you’re engaged with shifting gears it means you’re dead focused on the road, since you’re meant to shift preemptively, not reactively. If you’re not engaged with shifting, because you’re on or in an automatic vehicle, you’re probably distracted by something which isn’t the road, which is worse.
I like scooters and own one in fact, but that is the simple fact about automatic transmissions. I think you see this on both sides. If you don’t shift your bicycle preemptively you end up busting your ass, so people are more careless on e-bikes where they don’t have to be focused.
>>
>>28881033
>highway hypnosis
>scooter
The natural environment for a scooter is not the highway. Scooters are used in cities where there are Karens and Pajeets and potholes and road signs and light poles and generally a lot of things to think about and concentrate on. If you want to cruise on a highway then buy cruiser and change into fifth gear. If you want to ride on real roads then ride a scooter.

propane gas tanks tend to explode so you basically have a small atom bomb between your legs

If you lack the brain power to operate a manual then you shouldn't be on two wheels. It's such an easy thing to learn assuming you're above 75IQ
>>
>>28881045
This is like saying if you’re distracted by the throttle, or the handlebars you’re not giving the road your full attention
Gear shifting is muscle memory, and to do it you have to be paying maximum attention to the road
You can look into the literature on manual vs auto transmissions yourself, it’s robust

Throttle and handlebars are essential for vehicle control. Changing gears is not.

Incorrect. You're paying attention to your speed to determine which gear you need to be in. That's a distraction.

I wouldn’t go that far, I like scooters and think they’re fun, convenient, and reliable. My wife is intimidated by the size of motorcycles, and simply did not have interest in learning to operate a clutch, so when I taught her to ride it was on a Honda Navi. She finds it nice to ride to ie the dentist or optometrist, or to her local moms group activities like baby showers and such when they are no kid events.
I wish everyone would ride two wheeled transportation no matter the sort, bicycle, ebike, scooter, or motorcycle. In many ways I think bicycle and motorcycle are the pinnacles, but e bikes and scooters are fantastic as well.

Numbers. there are simply more automatic cars on the road than there are manuals. But I don't see how car statistics are relevant in a scooter thread/discussion. Perhaps you'd like to shift the goalposts inside your anus.

Doubt it but you can cope all you like, shit man you could ride all the way to the moon and back but you will never be respected by anyone other than fellow scootcucks.

I have no respect for people incapable of operating something as simple as a manual transmission. Let alone a motorcycle transmission (it's even easier!)

You should feel twice the shame if you reside in Europe, where it's even more commonplace to operate one.

A C K S H U A L L Y...
I didn't find changing gears on my PW50 to be a distraction from traffic because I only rode it on dirt trails. Did you misread the part where I said I was 8 years old?

And I'm not trying to convince you to ride a scooter (in a scooter general) because that would be silly. All I'm saying is that manual tasks are a distraction so I'm lobbying with my local political member to have manual bikes banned from public roads. So you see, you don't have to make a choice between changing gears or riding a scooter because that decision will be made for you by the powers that be.

What's the actual scoot quadrinity. In my mind it's super cub, vino, access and idk what Kawasaki brings to the table in this class.

How do you guys charge the phone when it's raining?
>>
>>28881472
Usb charger that hooks up to the battery.
Rain doesn't effect anything.
>>
>>28881479
>Rain doesn't effect anything.
It shortcircuits and blows fuses/ melts wire
>>
>>28881483
Do you ride a 1950s British bike or something? Lotta acid rain where you live?

Successful night out.

is this thing any good or would i be throwing money away?
i don't have a ton of free space and a lot of the alternatives are pretty bulky but this thing packs flat.
do any of you own this thing? or something like it? i've got a drz and i just want to be able to change the tires
>>
>>28881490
Dude, it's all waterproof. You just connect the wires to your battery and route them to your handlebars.
My bike LIVES outside, no cover. From -30C to +30C. Zero issues.
>>
>>28881495
It's not, water seeps into the usb charger itself and between connectors: phone -> wire -> usb charger
>My bike LIVES outside, no cover. From -30C to +30C. Zero issues.
Yeah but your charger is probably turned off
>>
>>28881498
The charger automatically turns off when the bike is off. I've ridden in the rain with my phone plugged into the charger and nothing bad has happened.
If any water seeped into the usb port on either device nothing would "short circuit". It at most would stop charging until it dried out.

Well, it seeped between my male usb c and my magnetic connector, shortcircuited and started melting so it does happen
I'll probably have to get some usb to waterproof DC connector or something

I don't know, I think it was the magnetic adapter I have, it started melting inbetween the usb connector
>>28881548
Maybe a thin powerbank inside the phone case would help for very rainy days
>>
>>28881555
I have a waterproof fannypack, with many many slots, so I got one of those 10k powerbank that I just slot next to my phone
these days they all even come with wireless charging
so my phone and the powerbank just stick to each other inside the bag
>>
>>28881556
I've seen those wireless charging phone holders but they aren't cheap and I guess they are not the most waterproof stuff out there but it would solve some problems with cables breaking, getting lost, unplugged...
Unfortunately I need the phone in front for navigation so it must be exposed

>oh fuck, try to call him and ask him to go out there and see what is happening, but he doesn't answer
>sprint half mile to the spot
>bike gone, just half the chain left lying on the ground
I didn't need this. not now, especially not now. I'm just tired of taking steps backwards all the time. I'm sorry for crying about this here, but I'm ttoo much of a stupid loser to have anywhere else.

Insurance? Tell the police, report to insurance.
>>
Found some new twisties on Sunday.
>>
I got a free Grom the other day. My cop brother-in-law dropped one off for me he said the owner is in jail for a decade and the bike was just lying around at the compound with no paperwork, so he just took it home and gave it to me.
It doesn’t start of course and since I’m a wrenchlet, I called my mechanic friend to inspect it
turned out it would cost more to repair than buying a clapped-out one with paperwork.
so I just handed it to a bunch of illegal immigrant kids and told them whoever could fix it could take it.
They took it apart and somehow made it work after few weeks and just ride it as it is
it still sound very wrong but hey it run
dude also handsprayed the bike red and used black duct tape and random foam to fix the seat.
>>
>>28881564
well at least you get to buy a new bike now
you have insurance right?
>>
>>28881591

Report it stolen as fast as possible anon, there's always a chance it will be found. Did you have insurance against theft? If not then get one next time, it gives a lot of peace of mind

Let me guess you “need” an “adventure bike” with very long suspension for all of the “off road adventures” you’d like to project an appearance of taking

I liked Matt Spears' take on the Busa, Panigale, Goldwing. Also the dogshit crate bikes from scamazon.
Just get on and send it.
>>
Fucking keihin pieces of shit, what the fuck kinda carb is this that it takes in water from the top if you leave the bike out in the rain?
Sent them back to the store and told them I don't want them, thank god for 14 day return policy even though I feel bad for returning them.

Bikes are free, if you want people to give you money for your bike instead of just taking it you have to keep it in your sight at all times. If you don't then it's communal property. Remember that when you get your next bike.
