Anybody else remember that era of custom PT Cruisers? They were at every damn car show. They all disappeared.
NSFW thread, this is obscene.
I drove my parents' PT Cruiser convertible that they got because they wanted a Mini Cooper but couldn't afford one through all of highschool. It was fucking embarrassing.
>>28881480I knew a guy whose dad had one. Dropped him off every day in it. The dude fucking owned it, and nobody mocked him for it. Had he ever shown any insecurity about it, we'd have been merciless.
>>28881520Since my parents' PT was a convertible if I drove with friends they would always try to open it when I was going like 70mph which you absolutely don't do with those models. Such a pain in the ass. It's like a hinge you unlock and then it slowly folds back, the thing nearly broke off multiple times because of those fuckers
>>28881352I have no disrespect for them.Pic: PT Custom Van Boyd Coddington
>>28881528Some car guys love PT's for some reason. My old boss had a good collection of cars but for some reason got obsessed with wanting a PT Cruiser and bought a cheap one he fixed up
>>28881352>They all disappeared.Good.
>>28881538I've seen PT Cruisers in Colorado on the road during harsh snowy days even recently. It's pretty fucking wild.
Not nearly as terrible as everyone says if you can find one with a 5spdOr wood panels
saw these for sale near me a few years ago
>>28881611
Manual PTs are actually pretty fun to drive. Love talking to the old guys with these at shows, you can tell they legitimately enjoy working on and driving them.
Even in the UK I remember seeing a couple with stick on chrome flame metal decals. Think I've seen one PT in the last year, always shabby and rundown.
It has a good curve going without fenders
>>28881648Damn, somebody has to live next door to that shit.
Am I the only one who actually likes these things?I don't mind their looks at all, at least they're somewhat different from the average 00s blob toyota or modern BOLD AND DARING cuckover design. It's a shame they're kinda shit cars if it isn't the GT Cruiser. By shit I mean they fall apart quite easily, most of them are autos and the tranny is prone to kys itself.
>>28881687>at least they're somewhat differentAgree, they're a proto cuckover, but at least they're interesting.Pic: some brochure goodness from 2001.
As always, it's the interiors that kill it for me. I have no problems with the exterior styling, but the interiors are just dog shit.
>>28881709If the cruiser actually looked like this it would've been based
>>28881691>proto cuckoverIt's literally just a Neon hatchback. There is no crossover anything in it.
>>28881724Wait ur telling me that an SRT-4 PT Cruiser could have been an option in another dimension and we just have to go on with our lives like normal?
>>28881731Anon, PT GT is exactly what you are describing. And unlike SRT-4s that went extinct, they still exist, some- even in good grandma-driven condition.
>>28881352I've not seen many still working, but they were a thing here in Australia as well amongst some very weird people. Not necessarily abnormal or fuckups, just a bit oddThe V8 +RWD should have been a thing from the factory, shit even a V6 in there could have done wonders for Chrysler not just half-arsing the whole platform as a weirdo whitegoods wagon
>>28881731PT Cruiser GT/Turbo had the SRT4 engine with some minor modifications
>>28881724There's plenty of FWD cuckovers.Pic Seventies style!
>>28881765It's not lifted, and it's not particularly tall. It looks tall, because it's actually pretty low to the ground.
>>28881731anon I have some great news for you
>>28881709I'd genuinely own that one.
>>28881687I like them too, they looked different and people enjoyed modding them, we don't really have that kinda thing going on anymore.Well, except jeep wranglers I guess, but uuurrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhh
>>28881709the interior can't be that bad
What could've been...
>>28881648I saw one irl where the lower front bumper cover fell off and it looked like a poverty Plymouth Prowler.
>>28881862The aesthetic side of things is fine, It's the material quality; typical 2000's cheap nasty plastic, akin to any other poverty spec GM, Ford, etc. etc. You wouldn't expect anymore from it really, but I just can't love a car that has a shitty feeling interior.
>>28881999I test drove one and it was the flat and unsupportive seats that put me off the car. I felt like I was going to fall off the seats on every turn. As I remember I had no problems with the rest of the interior.
>>28881352They're all in junkyards. It's a fucking neon platform.
>>28881999Its almost like they expected the owners would need their interiors to be hosed out with a pressure washer fairly regularly. Like if people painted the inside with icecream, did enemas on the backseat or get into a tomato throwing fight>yeah, just spray it all out>fucking nothing permeable in here>its just all PVC
the interior of these cars were so fucking keno. long shifter was amazing.
>>28882554That's the based three pedal, but an Anon was saying a while ago that the auto shifter is a great swap into other late model Mopars. IIRC he was talking about the Chally.Pic related has probably depreciated enough for me to afford it now.
>>28881352This thing is awesome
Fun factThere is an infinite amount of videos and images of PT Cruisers on fire
>>28882598I wonder what trans that had?>I'll see myself out
>>28882666Yes
>>28882598i'm pretty sure the manny PT shift knob will also fit on a manny Chally as well, but yeah the ZF8 t-bar in 15+ Chargers/Challengers can be removed and replaced with the ball shifter from an auto PT. Chrysler used the same tooling to cut the alignment grooves for the knob and its grub screw, just turned 90 degrees to the right. it literally just werks.
>>28882666another PT Cruiser fun fact:the front suspension and subframe is so well isolated from the rest of the car that the tires can generate enough static electricity to cause arcing thru the CV joints which pits and destroys them.If you ever see a PT with its front fenders off you might notice there is a ground strap between the strut and the car's body. if this strap ever corrodes the CV joints will fail.also despite the '30s van larp the marketing tired to sell, the PT Cruiser was in fact directly inspired by the Prangler test mule.
>>28882682LMFAOTruly a Chrysler moment in history.
>>28882682>If the grounding strap corrodes the CV joints failWat
When I die I want my last ride to be in a classic car.
>>28882682Plymouth Pronto was the prototype PT
>>28883478amen
>>28883490the Pronto much later concept car from well after the design had been established. i'm talking 1995-96 before the Prowler even released.early sketches of the PT Cruiser had a flat windshield and boxy cargo area, clearly inspired by the Prangler.
>>28883426yes, like i said, the whole front subframe is completely isolated from the rest of the car except by those straps. the static electricity generated by the tires rolling causes electric arcs in the cv joints that eventually pit the bearing surfaces if those ground straps are not present.
>>28884386I get it, but imagine for a second you're at the fucking mechanic and they tell you you've got bad bearing races because of a fucking grounding strap being too corroded.
I knew a guy with all the cars in the world but for some fucking reason he wanted a beat up PT so fucking bad. He preferred daily driving that over his F-150 or whatever else he had
>>28881610I wish, I was born blind.
>>28885913You sound like an awfully boring woman.
>>28881709PTs look good with chrome hubcaps and accents
>>28881610I love the grocery list
>>28886250Also basic black is the best color
>>28886229Your homosexuality is characterized by Yous complete lack of taste.
i still see 80s and 90s hondas on the road, but i never see pt cruisers. where did they all go? you saw them every day in the 00s.
>>28886334i see them all the time, also lots of LH-bodys and bubble body caravans. saw a first gen neon srt4 the other day even. of all the older cars on the road the vast majority are chryslers.mopar or no car baybee
