help a bro out how can i make this a smooth process and not bust up this car any further
>>
>>28885769
Pick up wrench and turn it. Take pictures as you go along so you don't forget what goes where
>>
You clearly have zero clue what you're doing if you can't even change a valve cover gasket on a 40 year old car, so I'm confused as to why you are even bothering?

Money?
>>
>>28885821
You're going to fuck it up and the whole endeavor will be pointless, but goodluck.

Take a shiload of pics as you go.
Remove silencer (red).
Unbolt throttle cable mounting bracket and hose clamps (yellow)
Pull intake (blue)
From there youre either good to pull valve covers or might be a couple more little bits (wiring harness bracket, another hose etc).
>>
>>28885823
Not OP, just thought that's the most likely reason.
>>
>>28885828
On second rhought, leave the throttle bracket and just slip then end off the throttle body (should be like a bicycle brake cable) and alup housing out of bracket.
>>
>>28885834
>*slip the end of the cable out of throttle body
Pull the housing out of the bracket then twist the throttle open by hand to get slack on the cable and it should slip out.

because i want to drive this car?

thank you so much bro i needed a point in the right direction
>>
Buy a Haynes repair manual.

just some tips for working, be careful with the old rubber hoses and plastic pieces as they will get very hard and brittle on anything over 20 years old. for rubber hoses you can use a pipe wrench and rotate in one direction to break it loose, for plastic its good to heat it up to prevent snapping.

What could possibly go wrong?
>>
>>28885949
stupid question but if it snaps on me can i not just replace it with another hose?
>>
>>28886043
even simpler you can just cut an inch off the end of the hose and it should still be able to fit. a box cutter or razor knife will do

What does the rest of the car look like? Post a pic anon.

1993 Ford Festiva (aka baby blue)
got a bunch of issues i wanna fix to make it truly mine
>>
>>28886327
I would rally the fuck out of that.
>>
>>28885823
This exactly what is going to happen, just let it leak and keep it topped up.
>>
>>28886351
thats the plan bro one step at a time
>>

You sell the car to me for $500 because if you can't sort out removing the valve cover on one of the simplest vehicles ever made you should not be touching tools

I've done the headgasket in one of these and they're easy to work on. You'll probably only need a #2 phillips, 10mm and 12mm spanners and some pliars to undo the hose clips. Here's a headgasket sequence, you'll only need to do a small part of that. AMA, I've got a [DB 121}factory service manual.

You've already gotten the advice you need but in general:
Youtube is your friend. With a shitbox that old it may be hard to find specific repair videos but just watch ones for similar cars (4 door compact) / later year fiestas.
Buy the workshop (dealership) manual for your specific year and model off of eBay. I've had good luck finding them for my Ford's. If you can't find that, or as a secondary reference, get the Chilton/Haynes manual for your car.

Get comfortable with the idea that you will have to spend money on tools. This won't be your last fix and they'll be there in the future. Buy what you need as you need it, and as you make fixes over time you'll get comfortable wrenching in general and wrenching on your specific car.
Also, take pictures, maybe even notes or a video for yourself if you're unsure about a job. I really boned myself before by not knowing what goes where and you spend a lot of time figuring that out if you don't have good references. Over time that becomes less necessary with experience.

Since I'm not very eloquent: what I meant by buy tools as you need them is just don't feel like you gotta go buy a ton of shit you don't need. But don't buy every tool piecemeal. Like individual sockets are very expensive relative to getting a 60/80/100/whatever piece set from your home improvement warehouse. Just use your head.
