>>28886125VAG really do be making the most compact 6 cylinder engine, a 7000 rpm 4.2L V8 and then do this stupid ass shit
>>28886259I think at that time, in their higher end stuff they just prioritized ze german engineering at the expense of all else. I want to say it was even a directive from one of the higher ups, maybe even the CEO? Basically just told their engineers to go nuts and we ended up with stuff like this, the TDI V10, the Bugatti W16, etc.
>>28886121>runs the cams smoother >runs my oil pump smoother too so I don't need billet gears to stop the crankshaft harmonics from btfo everything>half hour job to change if your car isn't a trannyverse turd
>>28886271>half hour job to changeYou should be doing a water pump with that bastard
>>28886273>gotta do everything while your in derrrWrenchlet shit As I already stated it's not big deal to take off the timing belt, so why would it matter if I have to spend another half hour doing it when my water pump gets old?
>>28886305It's a good idea for the sake of not having a failed water pump or one that weeps while you're in between here and there and stranding your ass
>>28886305>nooo i must use the water pump just a bit more to save a couple bucks because 30 mins of my time are worthlesspoor person shit
>>28886308>>28886314I don't know if you guys know this but water pumps aren't actually made out of rubber like the timing belt
>>28886323They're not but it's a fucking wear item with seals that you're subjecting to mileage, age, and heat cycles.
>>28886328but if it's not leaking or failing currently and bro pulls it off to replace it he is introducing new variables. the new part may fail, the new seals may fail, if it ain't actually broke don't fix it.
>>28886370There is no variable if you do a timing belt and water pump every 100K, that's the point, if your car has a bunch of miles and it's been 15 years on a water pump, it may last another several years, or it could fuck up in several weeks and suddenly you're overheating, that's the variable.
>>28886328Yeah just checked the bearing and it still spins m8
This thread makes me glad that after 15 or so years and many vehicles I have yet to own a vehicle with a timing belt. It feels good to have a timing system that lasts the life of the engine. Feels good to change my water pump whenever I want without touching the timing system. Also you people saying it's a 30 minute job to do a timing belt need to get your heads out of your asses. On something like a Toyota V8 it's going to be a multi day job if it's you're first time doing it at home. Even some of the easier belts are going to be a full day job.
>>28886396>Feels good to change my water pump whenever I want without touching the timing system???
>>28886396It's simple I just won't buy a Toyota V8 which takes 3 days to change the timing belt, not that I think it would take that long anyway...
