Guys, na mx5, caterham or gen 3 lotus elise.
In particular i'm after something without powersteering. I like the road feedback. I do have another car.
I've been informed that the caterham and elise are "not good investments".
Do you reckon:
Get the NA mx5 without powersteering from factory? add a turbo .
or
get a newer car like a gen 1 wrx and remove power steering? I realise the steering rack/ratio will be off. Can that be resolved fairly easily?

Lotus if you're really good friends with a top tier mechanic.
Caterham if you're a stones throw from a race track.
MX5 if you wear women's cut jeans.

race tracks are an hour away. I'm keen on doing some more racing.
I have previously had an na mx5. Most fun car i've ever had. But it was slow and it had rust.
But now I can afford to maintain it properly.

Lotus won't be as comfy for daily driving or trips as the miata, but for driver feedback it can't be beat.

why is that? they're both about the same weight, they both lack power steering.
If anything, the mx5 should be more traditional feed back as it's front engined. I would've thought less understeer in the mx5.

I'd be pretty tempted by a caterham so long as I've got room for it and the track isn't some overpriced bullshit.
My opinion with automotive recreation is to do whatever's geographically convenient.

Not really, the engine on the 1st two generations was pretty far out front and you can feel the intertia of it compared to NC and especially nd. Mid engined cars like the lotus have even less front end intertia and turn in very quickly.

Those iron block i4s weigh as much as a 4.0 V8 1uz. It's crazy. But also part of why the miata is popular for basically everything.

It's hard to describe, I highly recommend you drive one for yourself if you can. The Lotus just moves exactly where and how you want. That said, I sold mine for an ND Miata so trips for my wife and I would be more comfortable, so take that how you will. But I've never driven anything that handles as well as an Elise

MX5s power steering i barely noticeable anyway.

There are no bad choices for driving pleasure here. I'd favor what moves your soul, remembering that Miat is softest and most practical. Cat is like a 4 wheel motorbike, Elise is like a mini supercar, mid engine so handles very different.

Don't do this to an AWD car.
