FRAM actually makes good filters.
It's the super low end cardboard ones that have the bad reputation.
It's more of a causation than correlation.
Someone who's more likely to not do good maintenance on their car, is more likely to buy the cheapest filter.
But FRAM sells good filters, just not the $4 ones.
>>
>>28887030
Fram knows how to make a good oil filter, and they do. It's the Tough Guard and above line. Just because Fram makes some very cheap filters too doesn't mean they're an awful company. They're simply catering to multiple markets. If you go out and buy the absolute cheapest version of anything(not just filters) and have a problem, that's on you, that's not on the market.

And hell, in some cases, the Fram version is demonstratively better than the OEM option.

So basically like everything else in life, it depends, so you need to do your research and make sure what you've researched is up to date because nothing stays the same.

I use their 20k mile one and just went 3 oil changes and 25k on that filter with Valvoline Restore and Protect(tm). No issue so far.

You're the reason why every product is a piece of shit now

What a fuckin lazybones you are

Fram makes the most widely available oem Honda filter. Some people say to switch to the mahle Honda filter that is made in Japan, but I don't know if it's really any different; could just be weebs.
>>
>>28887030
They make the OEM Harley Davidson filters, those chrome ones that cost 130$ a pop a guess what? They work just fine. I used them in bikes that revved higher and longer than any cuck cage ever will and the engines are fine to this day. Just don't buy the absolute cheapest junk and you'll be fine.

this

fram ultras are ridiculously good. super overbuilt and only $8-10 at walmart. its what all the autists at bobistheoilguy recommend. cutting one open is ridiculously difficuilt, the can is thick and the media wire backed cloth that you need a really sharp razor on...the valves are always good and pliable too

>>28887051
the worst filters i've seen are oem in some cases
>>
>>28887051
??? That's not what I said or meant. Fram isn't scamming, tricking or stopping you from buying a good filter. They literally just make shitty cheap filters as well as good ones. You're welcome to buy either. How is this a problem? If Fram abandoned the bargain basement part of the market, it wouldn't go away. So why not take a piece of the market that's already on your doorstep?
>>
>>28887108
>They literally just make shitty cheap filters as well as good ones.
Why would a non-shitty company bother making shitty products?
>>28887089
>the worst filters i've seen are oem in some cases
You get what you pay for
>>
Fram is out of business. How many hopelessly clueless toyota newfags are there on this board?
>>
frams cheap filters are just slightly lower standard materials than the oe.
they're not going to fall apart or anything but I wouldn't run them with high detergent fluids or long-term.

Well pardon me for not being up the ass of the oil filter industry. First I've heard of it. Although this would explain why the Walmart shelf was emptier than usual last week.

I got some frammies for the hog tho so it's chill for now ;)
>>
>>28887147
is that why all their shit was on clearance at Advance?
>>
>>28887047
Why would you not swap the filter when you change the oil? It's right there and is cheap insurance.
>>
>>28887273
I forgot. Am I gonna kill my motor with another 5k miles on an old filter?
>>
>>28887295
Who knows, if the filter is still intact it should be ok. If it has been breached then everything will just bypass the filter including particulates. If it has been clogged or slowed down enough oil pressure drops that's also bad. RIP your bearings either case.
>>
>>28887030
they are completely fine if changed at regular intervals which you are supposed to be doing anyway so i don't see the problem. fucking youtube hack mechanics getting all pissy about the presence of paper despite it working without issue unless you try to squeeze some long life recklessness out of it.
>>
>All these people coping for a worse product
The better ones cost the same amount of money.
>>
>>28887030
I tried Fram Ultra recently because someone suggested it. So is it good or not?
>>
>>28887428
>Fram Ultra
It's their good one, though it costs more than the actual good ones. I get a Bosch or K&N, but that's probably fine.

I put that Fram Racing oil filter on my Grand Marquis and it's beefy solid. The prices on them jumped from 12 to 30 bucks unfortunately. Pic rel not mine, just a neat build I found.

I have bulk ordered 2GR v6 Denso oil filters from Rock Auto.
They are fine.
Rock Auto is a tier1 so they arn't selling fake parts like Amazon or Ebay.

?
>>
>>28887038
>It's the super low end cardboard ones that have the bad reputation
The extended life ones like the one Honda uses as OEM are based, sure metal end caps look ideal on something like an auto zone filter, but the filter media itself on a FRAM built Honda filter is stupid large, should have no problem doing a reasonable oil interval depending on what you are doing with the car.

>>28887073
The oem Honda filter is fine, I have seen 11,000 rpm built Honda K blocks and the builder puts a blue oem filter on it like your gramma's cr-v because they know you're not gonna blow it up.
>>
>>28887030
anything more expensive than supertech is a meme.
>>
>>28889517
So true, rapidly changing your oil with cheap syntheticshit and whatever filter is better protection than paying the most for oil and trying to stretch out the intervals, the oil with the least amount of blowby shit and hydrocarbons in it from use is the best oil.
