Sorry, this is my first time here and you probably get this question a ton - but what is the best car for a new driver? Got my driver's license a month ago and AI says that Peugeot iOn is the best car I can get within my budget of €5000. Is it truly the best bang for buck? The range seems very bad.
>>

>what is the best car for a new driver
any semi reliable fwd shitbox made in the last 25 years with <200k miles/300k km
>Peugeot iOn
lmao absolutely not
>>
>>28887130
>lmao absolutely not
Hmmm, confused why AI talks about it a lot when I've never talked about cars before. My dad said they're fine aside from the range
>>
>>28887132
take this as a lesson to never rely on what an LLM spits out
there is no logic underpinning it
>>
>>28887129
They're fine, but the range is really short. You can spend 10k to swap in bigger batteries and get 240 km of range.

Second generation Twingo is a good first car. They don't have any major faults. They're also safe, practical (incredibly spacious for the size), and easy to park. Get the diesel version and you can expect 4L/100 km of fuel consumption.
>>
>>28887129
How old are you?
>>
>>28887208
24, got my license late but that's because i never needed it until now
>>
>>28887227
I don't believe you.
>>
>>28887227
Get an Avalon, what do you want a little fagmobile for?
>>
>>28887129
A cheap, used car.
Chances are you will be destroying it in the first few years.
>>
>>28887129
If you have winter you need an AWD vehicle. Driving without it is in snow or ice is too hard for a beginner

Footprint of a hatchback with the interior space of an SUV. honda reliability and in the process of maximising interior space while still adhering to safety standards they accidentally made a very fun little chassis.

90% of the population doesnt need anything more than this.
>>
>>28887240
Why not? My brother is soon 30 and doesn't have his yet because he lives in the city.
>>28887340
I'm from Norway so I am used to driving in snow and when it's icy

What about Honda jazz? Is Honda a good car brand overall?
>>
>>28887743
>What about Honda jazz? Is Honda a good car brand overall?
yes, they are quite reliable as a maker
BUT, stay away from their 1.0 VTEC Turbo models as they use the wet belt. It's mostly in Civics, but apparently also used in Jazz in some markets (only applies to 1.0 VTEC)

So, I drive automatic and I have my eyes on some cars now: Volkswagen UP!, Hyundai i10 and Toyota Auris. They seem like the best cars I can buy used for a reasonable price. Thoughts?
>>
>>28887240
Some people outside of the states go their entire lives without a drivers license.
>>
>>28887841
I would go up a class to B segment cars, Polo, i20, Honda Jazz, Fiesta, etc
Still very small manageable cars, but with a usable amount of cargo space.
>>
>>28887841
The Up and i10 are tiny, loud and uncomfortable for longer trips, the Auris is a much more substantial car and dead reliable but overpriced due to the Muh Toyota Dependability™ tax and astoundingly boring to drive. Like the other guy suggested, go up a size category or two.

>>28887743
>What about Honda jazz? Is Honda a good car brand overall?
Jazz is just what the Fit is called in the European market. Hondas are gud as long as you avoid the recent missteps and watch out for rust.

What about Kia Soul 2017 model?

Second hand or brand new? You should be able to find a jazz/fit for cheap and they made so many of these things since the early 2000s you should be able to find one that suits you. I have an 86 as my fun car but me and the missus share a jazz for daily use. 2003, 300,000kms and no issues whatsoever aside from sometimes being slow to start.

Second generation has the best fun potential but its really marginal, all the Jazz/Fit's excel in the same categories (except the electric 4th gen which is still a great car it just doesnt have the fun potential) though the third generation can be brought in a hybrid if thats what you are after.
>>
>>28887920
I am only looking second hand. I am looking at a 2007 mitsubishu colt rn the cars i looked at got sold instantly, jazz is suprisingly expensive here with lots of milage
>>
>AI says
NGMI
>>
>>28887129
You can get brand new i20 with reliable 4-cyl DPi engine for a spare change.
>>
>>28888001
lol nope, i have to go up to €8000 for that
>>
>>28888009
>lol nope, i have to go up to €8000 for that
And how much do the used cars people named in here cost in Your country? When I look at the marketplaces all I see is a range from 5k€ to 10k€. If We are talking about this price range You might as well buy a brand new car. Out of which in this price range, the i20 with 1.2DPi is probably the most sensible one. Or if You want some 20 years old shitbox for 500€ it doesn't matter what You buy. Just get something that can start in cold weather and doesn't look like it's going to break in half because of rust. Those cars are good enough for starting drivers because You don't have to worry about scratching it. My first car was felicia 1.9d I bought from a guy that lost his licence because of dui for 200€ and it was good enough starter car that lasted for 3 years.
>>
>>28887129
>ion
>best car
if you love the idea of never traveling further than 30km away from home maybe
20 if it's cold (but not freezing because those just don't charge if it's freezing)
At least you won't be getting speeding tickets.

If you like the size look at a Daihatsu Cuore/Mira/Trevis. They are just as small and practical but dirt cheap to run and actually pretty decent if you don't go 'germany-only' speeds.

>>28887841
>up
Only ever drove the electric one. Reasonably comfy, pretty small, top speed too low, worst backup camera I've seen (but will work without.
Meh range, bitchy with charging (might've been the company charger though, never saw how fast it could charge)
Could be optioned with a heated winscreen which is awesome in winter.
>i10
no experience
>Auris
Slow but comfy, pretty reliable, enough room for activities/ friends/ potentially small family use.
Fuel consumption is ok but higher than the others in that list of course.
No clue if the automatics are any good (really on all of those, just get a manual)
Xenon headlights and their washers kept haunting the relatives who had one, I'd be weary of those. No clue how well the bulbs are to replace though.
>>
>>28888178
What about Mitsubishu Colt 2007 model?
>>
>>28888178
Me again, you mean cars like this? €1000 over my budget but I like the look of them
>>
>>28887841
Auris for reliability + cheap/available parts.
>>
>>28887129
>AI says
Your generation is cooked.
Fuck.
>>
>>28888179
Based on the Smart Forfour, but I know little more. Apparently came with up to 150 HP at least.

>>28888182
those are already their bigger models, the ones I recommended were their europeanized K-cars
should also be reasonably reliable at least
pretty sure their automatics sucked ass back then though (4 speed slushbox)
>>
>>28887841
I drive an UP (actually a Seat Mii, same thing but cheaper, just like the skoda citigo), and I think it's a perfect first car. Got a 10 year old one.
I heard bad things about the automatic version.
Many people would find the UP too tiny, but anything larger than that is too large for me personally, so it depends.
I would also say you shouldn't get an automatic as your first car in general. They are more expensive and you'll never learn to drive manual then. And I would get a car with as few extra features as possible. They cost extra and are just more stuff that can break, and that's not what you want in a shitbox.
>>
OP here, I asked my dad to check out this car for me irl https://www.finn.no/mobility/item/456077386?ci=1

Is it a decent choice? If it works for 2 years then I'd say it has fulfilled its purpose. If you don't want to click the link it's a Mitsubishi Colt 1,3 Invite 95 Hk Automatic
>>
>>28889196
Remove the fender/mud guards, and spray fluid film in all cavities.
And there is a chance you could be forced to drive it until engine failure at 250k to 300k. Or more. Similarly its pre Euro6, meaning the boost ratio of the turbo is not insane, and neither is the O2 sensor setup.

Its cheap because it out of range of the current market. And because its a small car, and the displacement is low.
>>
>>28889231
You don't recommend it as a cheap first car?
>>
>>28887240
Common for euros.
However, I know a lot of people who grew up in the largest cities in the US (NYC, LA, etc.) who didn't get their license until 25 or 30 because of the transit system.
>>
>>28887340
GOD I HATE BURGERS
>but if u have snow u need awd or u die
SHUT THE FUCK UP WE HAVE WINTER TIRES YOU FUCKING NIGGER
>>
>AI says
Joyless faggot. Get a car you actually like. Buying cars based on equations is retarded. Get a sedan as first car. It's the ideal way to drive.
>>
>>28889196
It's not what I would have picked in that price class in Norway, but I have vastly different criteria than you. What I can say is that you're missing out on most of the best value-for-money options by excluding manual transmissions. If you didn't get a full license I'd advice you to fix that unless you expect to be shopping in a much higher price range very soon.
>>
OP here again, i've found my car: Peugeot 307 1.6 2002 model. Extremely low milage and recently had service. My dad says french cars can be hit or miss.
>>
>>28892238
post pics, lets see the rig

Gonna try it soon and if I like it I'm gonna buy it https://www.finn.no/mobility/item/442553454?ci=1
>>
>OP is scandinavian
aren't like 2/3 of the cars on your road EVs?
why not get one?

if you want an ICE though, get an old diesel.
>>
>>28892238
Comfy
Careful with the interior mirror, they like to rip out of the windscreen and that's very expensive
