Chain as long as it's a sensibly designed chain system.

On a Euro car I would take a belt any day. Their chain systems are often 100k miles max life due to various poor designs, and two major companies, BMW and Audi, have their chains on the back of the engine. A belt system lasts 100k miles and is way easier to change.
