Depends on your vehicle and what you do with it. 9 times out of 10 it just waste fuel and reduces internal carrying capacity.
>>
Yes. But just because something is better doesn't make it magic.
Do you want only one front tire spinning in such a situation or all 4 (assuming lockers) tires?
>>
>>28893974
we're already cut off from the ocean and sky. why do you want to just relegate yourself to paved roads?
>>
>>28893974
4wd without locking differentials is kinda retarded senpai
>>
>>28893974
You think it's overestimated until you need it and don't have it
>>
>>28893989
>we're already cut off from the ocean and sky
By whom? Nobody is stopping you from buying a boat or a plane.
>>
>>28893974
The power of a tool depends on the person utilizing it.
>>
>>28893974
Doesn't that thing have like 50 hp?
>>
>>28893974
>Is 4WD really that important?
The only difference between 2wd and 4wd is about 50 feet.
>>
>>28893974
If you can't go on a specific surface, 4wd/awd won't help you stop or turn and you probably shouldn't be driving on it at all. Get better tires, which will help you go AND stop AND turn.

This is sensible practical advice for people seeing snow on paved roads. 4WD / AWD with LSDs / lockers makes a massive difference from a stop. Believe it or not, you can also use it to rotate the car and vector it with the throttle. Like the ship at the end of gifrel but if he used throttle.
It will not generally help with braking or turning; doesn't mean it isn't better.

>Believe it or not, you can also use it to rotate the car and vector it with the throttle.
You can do that better with RWD.
>>
>>28893974
definetly yes.
>>28893990
kinda agree but it still gets along on most icy roads, its the centre diff lock that makes it usefull in most cenarios and its standard in most awd.
>>
>>28894130
Yes, yes you can. I much prefer RWD, I drive RWD. But it's also true of real AWD especially in snow, you can rotate and go with the throttle.

This

>>28893990

Incorrect. To get to my house you can have a welded rear end and still not make it but an open front and rear 4x4 can. Unless the vast majority of your weight is on the rear like a heavily loaded dump truck but then an open diff dump truck with 15 tons of material in the back can make it. Empty one with a locker can't.

>>28894118
>>28894122

Then you get snow birds like these who think that the only reason anyone gets 4x4 is because of snow. I live in a mountainous tropical climate and you can get a 2wd vehicle stuck on a concrete road just due to how the roads turn and undulate at the same time. You really need to know your vehicle because a 2wd suzuki swift may have no problem with a particular corner but something heavier like a 2wd Santa Fe could never make that corner unless it drives it in reverse due to the dynamics of it. The guys above are flatlanders and an 8% highway grade to them is "illegal" lmao.
>>
>>28893974
I have winter and big hills where I live so I would never own a 4x2 truck or a RWD vehicle. Getting going on a steep hill from a stop is doable in a FWD with really good winters and a lot of patience but it's not happening in a RWD locked diff or not. You're also not driving yourself out of a ditch with FWD or RWD.
>>
lockers are important. and most youtubers are fucking dipshits just like most of this board.
>>
It snows where I live bro
>>
>>28894178
Biggest retard award. Open diff 4wd is literally useless you very obviously have zero experience in any actual offroading.
>>
>>28894178
congrats, you got one of thoose houses that defy all laws of physics. does it also float in open air and use teleporting between house and garage?
i dont think you undestand lockers, lsd pr diff brakes.
if one wheel spins, it provide no traction to itself and none to the other. with lsd/differential brake it provide some. locked it it give both wheels on that axle the same traction.
>>
>>28894011
You maga pedophiles literally made it illegal for us to do that
>>
>>28894218
if you can't drive a regular open diff rwd in 8 inches of snow you have made a severe mistake in your tire choice
>>
>>28894256
the hell are you talking about?
>>
>>28893974
It's needed anywhere you have snow or sand. Baffles me when I see people drive their FWD vehicles to their death in winter
>>
A lot of retards think you need 4WD as soon as you touch a gravel road, the truth is you only need it for mud or when you go looking for places to drive deliberately to get stuck.

This, you will literally die driving your honda miata shitheap when it wstarts raining, let alone snowing.
Either get a proper SUV like a ford excursion or GMC yukon or don't drive at all, you're endangering others on top of yourself.

It's really useful when driving in sand. People say, "just air down", but I've seen how 2wd and 4wd behave on the exact same sandy paths with both of them running aired down, and it's no fucking comparison. The 2wd cars get stuck in sand that 4wd cars drive right over.

I don't know why we're getting raided by so much libtards lately
>>
>>28894684
Even they can't stand other libtards - especially censorship - , but they don't realize they just bring the problems with them.
>>
>>28894675
Yeah 2bh after I wrote that I thought to myself:
>"Oh yeah I suppose people who live in winter hellscapes might need 4WD for the snow...."

I forget snow is a thing sometimes.
>>
I buy 4wd vehicles only. The amount of times I've needed it to slog through mud and snow to feed cattle or change water makes it worth it every time.
>>
depends what you use it for
>>
>>28894675
Lets see you going up some mountain grades mr. flatlander.
