What went wrong?
Kia/Hoon emerged and offered newer, better cars for not much more money. Mitsubishi entirely stopped producing new cars and just sells rebadged Nissan's now.
>>28895227the Mirage was the best thing they ever built.
>>28895296Not Evos?
>>28895320>gas guzzling """sports""" sedan that handles worse than a four cylinder camaronah. mirage was the car of the people. the car we needed but didn't deserve in these dark times.
>>28895324Jazz was a better car IMO.
>>28895227Got stuck in a cycle of trying to novelty engineer their way out of problems while leaving genuine development and innovation on the back burner>Sir the Subarus are cheap reliable and fast as fuck>Urrrg. Spray water on the intercooler>Make a complicated torque vectoring 4WD system >Jam the turbos between the block and the strut tower >How about a timing chain? People are getting ready into those>Nope, out of time and money
mostly the 4D56, it over heats easily.more broadly speaking Mitsubishi built comfortable, but heavy and underpowered (hence unreliable) vehicles.
>>28895227The car production arm of Mitsubishi is a tiny part of Mitsubishi. They are busy building warships for ww3.
>>28895510For context Mitsubishi motors makes up about 5% of their total revenue.
>>28895227Cast driveline components like transfer cases were their Achilles heel and Americans at the time didn't give a shit about Dakar or Rally to justify remedying the problems. They're a good brand though, but bad marketed and pivoting away from AWD systems nerfed their sale power
>>28895227Dodge chysler hyungdai whored them put and hung them up to dry. More cucked japanese businessmen
>>28895227They're making bank all over the world. The L200 is nice as fuck.
>>28895238Funny you say that. Because right now Nissan is selling a Mitsubishi L200 rebadged as a Navara (D27). Funny how confidently wrong you are.
>>28895510yeah, not to mention Mitsubishi Electric
>>28895510>>28895514>>28897047Hyundai also does a billion other things yet their auto division maintains a strong global presence.
>>28895227Their design language fell off.
Nothing, I love mine.
>>28895296Literally the worst car I've drivenHad a kia seltos rental that was better than the mirage in every wayA fucking KIA
>>28895227The market. No one was buying the Evo, and they had long since pulled from WRC. Normies and single mom's all want a crossover or SUV so thats the safe bet on the western market. Their presence is still huge in the pacific east and Australia. >>28895296Not the best thing ever but certainly the best thing currently. I had a 2015 for a while and got nearly 60 mpg on the 5 speed. It is a no nonsense, only what you need for minimum budget car. The newer ones got too expensive with all the ADAS and options. They were perfect at $10k. Its easy to work on, no hybrid battery or high voltage systems to ever replace or repair, gets 50+mpg easy, has plenty headroom for how small of a car it is, slippery aero, weighs less than a ton, and that anemic 78hp 3a92 will hit 105. I personally got to 103 in mine in PA but never wanted to top out at the paper number. The hatchback has significantly better styling than the sedan, and the new Ralliart is a joke. Only comes in a CVT and gets nothing besides an appearance package. There are guys on the forum making 200hp on these 3 cylinders on low boost, they can he absolutely quick if you want them to be. Or you could shell out $50-$60k for a Mirage R5 which is an Evo X stuffed in a mirage body. Mitsubishi has always had a history of service and customer care downfalls. I wish we had the new triton in the states. I wish we had the montero in the states. I wish we still had the Illinois plant. Its also frustrating that when they were partnered with Nissan from 2016. They could have EASILY joint developed a 2 door, rear wheel drive coupe that could compete in the market with the 124 spyder/mx5/brz/gt86 and revive the Sylvia and Starion nameplates on the same car. There is absolutely a market for selling drivers car again, and the 86 gets bought up all day long.I have so much I could say. Ive been a Mitsufag since day 1 and wrench on them every week. I love the whole company and keep waiting to see the new 6th gen fighter.
>>28897222hyoondai simply dumps all their forced meme trashmobiles to any niggers in debt and u ndercut the competition with sweetheart trade deals
>>28895841Chrysler era mitsu was based
They stopped making fighter planes
>>28898658>>28898805Nah. I just said I was excited about the new 6th generation fighter and they may be the first ones to actual produce a 6th generation fighter. And this time its ground up Mitsubishi and not a rework and upgrade of the F16.MHI also has badass stealth frigates, they make tanks. They still do it all.
>no reputation for dependability>3000GT VR-4 was $95,000 in today's money>subcompacts became povertymobiles>no WRC>Evos were niche and then ruined by faggots because of F&F
Driving a Mitsubishi is unAmerican for multiple reasons
>>28897313Kia Picanto is the better Mirage competitor. Has a 1.2 four cylinder, manual and is just a better Mirage. Cheaper than the Suzuki Ignis, it's the super-mini I recommend.
>>28898855But to be American is to be SUV or truck....
>>28896748Yeah and the L200 is cheap, shitty, and ancient. Korean offerings are much newer and nicer. Mitsubishi has released a grand total of 0 new engines or platforms of their own design in the last 5 years. They are moribund.
>>28899495>the L200 is cheap, shitty, and ancientThe Super Select 4WD in the Triton/L200 is the best in class. Only Mitsubishi allows you to drive on dry pavement at freeway speed in 4WD.
>>28899495>Korea is better because it releases new platforms that don't even survive until the next generationTry again, Park.
>>28898658Where are you finding people turboing 6th gen mirage’s?While technically possible, this would require a new clutch for the 5 speed and 200hp does not sound like a realistic number without dumping money unless we’re talking about rally cars specifically. Not doubting, just share what you know.
>>28899495Neither has huundai and kia. Their engines are all bootlegged GEMA [Mitsubishi] engines. They couldn't even get them right bs the gook versions blow up left and right. Have some respect, bitch
>>28895296i got one as a rental and it was the shittiest car i have ever driven. everything about it felt cheap, even compared to a versa. it handled terribly, steering felt awful, had no power, rode like shit, was unstable on the highway, extremely cheap and uncomfortable interior. calling it mitsubishi's best car is retarded but it definitely has its place. cars like that need to exist and unfortunately there's not many left being made.
catering to poor people is a thankless job
>>28899495>Yeah and the L200 is cheap, shitty, and ancient.Based 'tardo
>>28895296I didn't believe you but I looked it up and yeah, that looks like a good car.
>>28899900>2005 clio vs 2020 mirageor you could try putting it up against something from the same decade
>>28899787Check YouTube and the Mirage Forum. There's a few threads on turbo builds on the forum. On YouTube dirtGearTV has a built 3a92 powered Dune buggy that he upgraded the bottom end and is pushing for almost 500hp. Damian Subaru has probably the best turbo mirage setup, and of course some guys in indonesia/Thailand where mitsubishi tuner culture is pretty huge. There's even an NA 3a92 drag car with ITBs and everything. Its not a very popular car, so its taken some time for people to learn the platform and start squeezing it. Pic related is my old one.>>28899495What a shit take. 4N16 is a brand new engine in the brand new Triton. Ground up Mitsubishi new car. Not some Renault rebadged bullshit.
>>28898687This retarded take was true 10 years ago, but not anymore. I'm sure you'll still be posting this nonsense 10 from now.
>>28900002Its still true faggot, what do you think their theta shit is based on? How about that 3.8 minivan V6 You obviously don't know how time works
>>28895227Turns out nips can't into cars (like many other things)
Just bought an auto '06 ES Lancer for daily commuting. How fucked am I?
>>28900013So apparently the newest engines are "smartstream" since about 2018-2020 ish and those don't seem to be a Mitsubishi design. I will concede that Kia doesn't make the best engines but they are still less shitty than Toyota. Little low end torque on my NA 4 and you have to manually shift it to keep it in the powerband on any sort of winding or steep road. It's kinda fun above 4000 rpm at high speeds and it will hold ALL the way to redline in manual mode but the engine sounds industrial and isn't smooth and has little go below ~ 2800 rpm
