Parted with the XSR900 last week, sad times. Honestly hated to see it go but I'm getting ready to move and had to start thinning out on stuff. Now that I'm a 30s boomer it's the croozing(ujm) life for me anyway. The younger guy that bought it apparently had an R6 and a Ducati 750 previously, wanted something less peaky and more reliable. Rode it ~120 miles home and said it was amazing.

Next up is finishing the ST1100 and probably selling that too unless I fall in love with it, but it seems unlilely to win me over from the big CB.

What the fuck is a "peaky" motor in relation to a 600 or 1000. High rpm horsepower bias? So less horsepower lower in the rev range makes it more docile. So that's good or bad?

The carb box, one of 3. I ordered new chink K68 carbs for my Ural, but they were frankly dogshit and didn't work quite right.
Will disassemble them and see if something is really fucky inside or if I can just strip them for parts for some other K68s

>>28898614
yeah the bike where the powerband are locate at higher rev
think of those car with big single turbo, where you got no power until the boost kick in at higher rev
honda always make high end powerband bikes
I have a honda DT50 and the thing has zero power up until you rev it to 10k RPM, personally I think it is kinda what make manual shifting fun
for a bigger bike it can be dangerous when some retard is doing I GOT NO POWER I GOT NO POWER then open the full throttle, hit the power band, wheelie, drop down into wobble and then die

>>28898614
Having all your power in the top end isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's when it kicks that power on unpredictability mid corner is when it can lead to a bad outcome.
>>
>>28898645
Nah. Just stay at the godzilla hotel and do whatever for a couple weeks. Just kinds winging it
>>
>>28898639
this is some weird fanfiction
Honda does not always make high end powerband bikes I could rattle off many many many hondas that wouldn't fit this criteria...and the scenario you described is 100% operator error

An argument could be made that having less power lower in the rev range is actually safer anyways.

the 600 and 1000cc bikes are designed to have high rpm biased power because they get into the power then the close ratio transmission keeps them there. They are race replicas that's what they do.

But all one needs to do to keep a 600/750/1000 docile is keep it lower in the rev range. Doctor jekyll and sam hyde if you will
>>

+1 well said anon, it does read like a weird ass fan fiction. While yes, he is accurate with the large single turbo comparison for inline 4's the rest is just silly.
>>28898639
The only high strung Hondas are the fireblades, blackbird, the Vtec era VFR's, and the 6 clyinder UJM. All of the other models are linear and smooth across the whole powerband.
>>
>>28898595
You sound like a noob and a shill. I have ridden sp1's and sp2's and would not call the peaky.

If you want a better more in depth explanation about actual peaky bikes then skim thru this podcast about the R1s inception. The old guy in particular explains a lot of concepts far better than I can. Yes I have ridden I4s to answer your question.

I see the convo pointless since whiskey throttle with high power is a death trap where on a small displacement you are very unlikely to die unless you are particularly uncoordinated.

>>
>>28898674
Bigger bikes just punish objectively bad mistakes harder than the small bikes.

There is no objective way to ride a motorcycle, however there are objectively WRONG ways to ride one. Simply do not execute those bad inputs / understand what NOT to do and youll be okay.
>>
>>28898561

Yeah, I agree but try telling that to people who only rode a 50cc dirt bike or at an msf thennthinks they are ready for a full sized mid-large displacement bike to impress people.
Even I saw a guy manage to launch a tu250 out of under him because he didn't even listen to the lecturer and went full wot while releasing the clutch. This was 5second after letting them on the bike for clutch release practice to find the bite point.

im not geriatric
why do you get recommending me cltuchless souless bikes
>>
>>28898705
You are not responsible for idiotic actions of others. Personally, (granted I may be a little different cuz i started on a 2 stroke) I think so long as you can physically fit on the bike you want, understand that when you're a scrub you're a scrub, and you slowly build out your limits then it's actually safer/better for you to get the bigger bike that you actually want because you're getting accustomed to the specfic machine you want rather than compromising on a different bike you don't really want/don't intend to keep.

You'll be mastering a bike that isn't going to stay in your stable, also with smaller bikes you have to twist the Throttle more to get the go-juice so when you upgrade you are starting out with terrible habits rather than a blank slate.

However if you acknowledge that you're the type of person to lose themselves in the presence of others, big ego, no self control, or discipline then yeah I agree you should not be on a big bike but if you're not any of these things I don't really see the issue in it. No point in psyching yourself out because of other people's horror stories and anecdotes.
>>
>>28898722

and there is literally nothing wrong with e-clutch
its basically a build in quickshifter
if you are going to get quickshifter anyway might as well get e-clutch cause it probably cost the same
and in real stop and go traffic, having e-clutch just make life so much much easier
I rode my friend hornet with e-clutch and I want that on all my bikes
but yeah cant really go wrong with transalp, if you dont like it just sell it for exact same price cause ADV hold its price so well
cant go wrong with transalp or 800de

Speaking of which, my friend with the fz6 whos speedo shit the bed and is unreliable, had the brilliant idea of ordering amazon speedo temu junk, picrel
I have no idea his rationale here; tried convincing him that it was a bad idea and he should cancel, few threads back i said i reccommended him a f9 dirtbike speedo gauge thats bullet proof and guaranteed to survive his vibes

I have no idea if he cancelled the order or not, but like fuck, he even wants the mechanic to rewire and install it
And im just saying to him
>shouldnt you consult the guy first? It might be incompatible let alone shit the bed from vibrations once the jobs done cause its temu trash
I have no idea how he got the idea to think this would work, even the page lists compatible plug n play chinese scooter shit

Im thinking it must be boiling down to budget constraints, but ffs if youre gonna pay a guy to install one, why not get his opinion on the shit he would prefer to install and knowa reliabiloty wize what a good bargain is
I fail to understand the logic in the approach here, plua he knows im always here to help beforehand, but after the fact i was just baka loke dude wtf are ya doin here, wtf is the plan with this garbage

Wondering if i should just buy the one for him that i suggested so he doesnt waste more of his money, poor dude is older and without a clue for technology or how scammy amazon and dropshippers are etc.

I’ve had tons of bikes, of all makes, models, colors and flavors, and I’ve always wanted different stuff. But since I’ve tooted up my Dyna these past couple years, and so long as it’s not broken down, I don’t lust for any other bike. I’m completely content with what I have. It’s really a nice feeling, and I don’t think I’ve even owned another bike as long as I’ve owned this Dyna. Hell, I’ve bought the thing twice. I really plan on keeping it forever and just continuing to perfect it. Bigger motor would be nice, inverted from forks would be even nicer, and in time, it will have those things.

I thank God for my motorcycle, bros

I swear to God, every time I learn about some reliable dirt capable JP twin from the 90s/2000s that doesn't feel miserable after 3 hours and with fairing lines drawn from an Alfonso Mucha painting, it's the same fucking story.

God damn, look.at that xl600v, sexy mothfu

Motherfucking Italians cannot throw a day old chunk of their bread without hitting a 90s Transalp still trucking along, and my options boil down to fucking clapped out KLRs.

How can I diagnose a gas leak, on an older Kawasaki Vulcan 500. Im not a mechanic but can fix small things. I already fixed one bad hose on the tank and took it for a ride but it leaked the entire tank over some hours. No idea how or wear. I cant see anything wrong with it, but I havent taken a really good look yet.

Not my personal bike, its my friends.

Unless it's leaking into the crankcase, you should be able to visually identify a fuel leak. It might be best to just pull the carb and clean it out, and adjust the float height if necessary.
>>
>>28899799
Oh, and check the oil. Make sure there's no fuel in there. smell it

Polaris didn't understand that sometimes a brand needs to sell an S2000 alongside the Accord and CR-V. The practical ones keep the lights on, but the S2000 draws people in, shows what the brand can really do, and gives it some personality.
They sold Indian to some random rich boomer earlier this year, who promised "to focus on cruisers"
Destined to be DOA as usual. Indian is cursed. Probably always has been. It was a great bike though
>>

>>28899898
Polaris Indians are not very good quality.
Very overpriced for the trash you end up with.
>>
>>28899917
Not true, only the S&S era Indians were of poor quality. Indian has really come a long way, just look at their 125th anniversary vintage chief. I will concede tho that their digital display is cringe and shoudlve been analog / paired with an analog display
>>

In your mind, is better a synonym with sportier ?
The FTR is sportier than anything Harley had on offer when it came out
But sportier isn’t synonymous with better. The fireblade isn’t Hondas best bike because it’s the sportiest.

Nah, its true. They're trash. Try not to be so emotionally invested in it Lil buddy

You can get around this having the shipper slap a "not for road use/display only" sticker on it. That's how my buddy stationed in Okinawa used to ship helmets back home.

>myself, Karl, and AJ go on the run
>Mr. Yamamoto came by earlier and brought 3 bentos for our trip
>nice man, taught me everything I know about the way of the stick and motorcycles
>he used to be bosozoku back in the day
>we road about halfway to Akita before my radiator started leaking
>we had to stop
>Karl “Oh man, looks how are we going to fix this?”
>”It’ll work out. Well think of something.”
>honestly, I didn’t know how this was going to work out
>then I notice in a window of a nearby home a box fan
>”I have an idea”
>long story short I traded an old man Mr. Yamamoto’s bento for a box fan
>using my toolbox I was able to rig the fan to the alternator, making a makeshift cooling system
>we then ride the rest of the way to Akita where we rest and share the 2 remaining bento from Mr. Yamamoto
>there we were able to patch the hole in the radiator
>we couldn’t find any coolant so we did the next best thing
>squeezing fresh ripe mango juice we filled the radiator with some extra mangos
>it worked
>we decided to keep the fan strapped for extra cooling
>we made it home in time for the camp fire
>Mr.Saito, Mr. Yamamoto, and the rest of the ramen noodle shop owners showed up too
>Mr. Yamamoto “Anon and friends, how did you enjoy the bento?”
>we loved it- although I had to trade mine because for an emergency situation
>I explained the situation
>a sad look came over his face..
>though he said he understood, and he would do the same thing if he were me
>”well anon and friends, I’m just so glad you all made it back safe”
>we then sat by the fire and drank fresh, ripe mango Juice with melons, and curry
>it was a good day

When coming to a stop is it bad on the clutch to pull it all the way in before you are completely off the throttle,
Also do engines always smell like an empty running electric stove?

Japanese manufacturers and missing every major US consumer trend
name a more iconic duo

it took the Chinese flooding our market with cheap dual sports for them to realize that they should be providing us with cheap dual sports and adventure bikes.
