why aren't there any v8 muscle cars and non cucked trucks coming to market? i thought the overturning of the chevron doctrine would have given us something cool by now.

They're bringing the V8 Charger back and Nissan is going to put V8s in their Nismo trims. Mercedes also cancelled their cancellation of V8 development and is designing a new V8 range for full size and AMG models.

The 2 series was literally designed and built by Mexicans and is actually cheaper there than the Mustang GT in Mexico. Mexicans still prefer V8s and short wheelbase single cab V8 Silverados still outsell and outpeform both base models. Mexican dealerships will sell a Silverado/Cheyenne V8 warrantied and uptuned making 420hp cheaper than a 2 series or Mustang GT.

At a certain point government intervention doesn't matter anymore. People are already accustomed to things being a certain way. All restrictions and regulations could go out the window tomorrow and nothing would change. They're not going to start selling bare bones cars because people still want the safety features and creature comforts. They're not going to start selling more V8 vehicles because especially at this very moment people want the better mpgs from a smaller turbo engine. Even when a v8 f150 is right there, they still take a turbo v6, and have been for over 10 years.

You can't just start shitting out new models in a couple months. Even something like putting a larger engine in a pre-existing chassis takes a long time.
Companies aren't going to do it because by the time they start producing them, someone else will be in office.

Cadillac has their manual V8 sedan, Ford has the Mustang GT and you've got the Corvette, the latter two of which keep breaking E*ro records with factory modified versions. It's not like more brands can really do anything since Ford doesn't even sell a single sedan (to Americans), and the cope I6 Dodge threw in the nu-Charger is likely since it's not as easy to shoehorn a V8 into a chassis meant for an EV. You can still get a new Durango with a hemi for $50k however, which considering that people are paying that for hybrid Rav4s isn't a bad deal at all.
On the other hand, V8 trucks from domestic brands are all over. Ford will sell you the FP700, a supercharged 5.0L F150 with full factory warranty for ~$60k or so (it also weighs less than a nu-M5). RAM brought back the V8 due to demand. GM never took the V8 away, but they've got their own issues with cylinder deactivation/lifters/watery oil and whatnot. The Express van of all cars has a based 400hp 6.6L V8 that's easily among their most reliable currently however, but people aren't buying them as daily drivers and modding them into custom street vans like the '70s anymore (if we were a proper country, maybe).
So there are already many V8 muscle cars and based trucks, from domestic brands even, that mog E*ro and Jap shit all day long. What else do you want? I mean, I'm waiting for the actual, Suburban-length land yacht sedans and personal luxury coupes with V8s but I doubt we'll be seeing any.

You wont buy them anyways. Oh you claim you'll do it, but you'll buy it used, and the manufacturer only cares about the guy buying new. And guess who's buying new? Not you, you're "too smart" for that.

Hence the CUV/SUV era we all live on, we live in a world where Rav4's are selling into the millions, and your Muh V8 people are maybe buying in the thousands. It's obvious where you need to pour your money and research into if you're a manufacturer, into making Rav4s or Rav4 killers. They'll give you a 3-4 thousand run of the car you want, it's gonna cost 80-90K, and you will not get to it because the only people buying them are rich assholes who are gonna want to sell them as collector items.

just something I found while scying (the diagram for two-stroke engines would look somewhat different)
iirc overlap mostly effects the smoothness of power delivery, esp while under load like driving up an steep hill.
