they really used to buy cars just to total them all for movies
>>28900973they used to buy cars to total just for fun
>>28900979that's just scrap metal that was going to be destroyed anywayin the movies they used to buy actual normal cars just to destroy them, like the OP pic, it shows a bunch of volgas that crew behind the film "bourne supremacy" destroyed just for the chase scene in the movie
>>28900973Check out the original Gone in 60 seconds.https://youtu.be/Le_SnbrNaogThey get a bit silly.
>>28900983>Bunch of volgasso just scrap that was going to be destroyed anywayI though this was about them buying up pristine muscle cars in the 70s and 80s, cars with actual value
>>28901004the reason those cars have "actual value" now is because they were treated even worse than those volgas were
>>28900983so are the ones used in movies. used cars used to be significantly cheaper back in the day. my pops bought a running & driver car for literally $50 in the early 80's.
>>28900973Dukes of Hazzard totaled like 300 Chargers
>>28901142so just scrap that was going to be destroyed anyway
>>28900973yeah no shit
>>28900983Lol no, back in prime demo derb days they would rub whatever classic was around. Those old school whips were taken for granted because they're abundant. It would be like seeing a BRZ or R35 demolition derby and not batting an eye because they made so many of them.>t. 70s anon who had multiple friends that demo derby cougars, charges, roadrunners, and one AMC something
>>28901155Charger would not have iconic without Dukes of Hazzard.
>>28900979I wonder how many demolition derby guys killed their wives from long term tbi
>>28900973it's ok, road salt has destroyed tens of thousands of times more cars than all the movies ever made in history have.
>>28901194bait or mental retardation
>>28901142More like 400.And they ran out of chargers and started bolting the wrecked chassis' onto Ford LTD frames for later Junp scenes so we can add a shitload of LTDs to the list.
>>28901293>ai answer
>>28901293>And they ran out of chargers and started bolting the wrecked chassis' onto Ford LTD frames for later Junp scenes so we can add a shitload of LTDs to the list. What in the fuck are you talking about?
>>28901297They couldnt find any more chargers. But the wheelbase on an LTD was the same as the charger.LTDs were easy to source. So they pulled the LTD body and bolted up the charger unibody chassis to the LTD frame. Its not going to fly at a car show but it "functioned" and they could get another jump scene from the otherwise mangled charger body. Then they started reusing old jump footage. Then they went to miniatures for junp scenes in the last couple seasons (with the other, shitty Duke cousins)
>>28901295>nooo!!! you didnt link each movie to its official website that quoted how many cars were destroyed during filming!!!!Prove the numbers are inaccurate.Until then kindly fuck off.
>>28901357nta but your AI slop even cites reddit.why not fuck off back there?
>>28901356Can I get a source on that?
>>28901357Based.
>>28901357>Prove the numbers are inaccurateIt literally gives two different numbers to one movie right there in your screenshot
>>28901369not him but i've heard it too but only secondhand from mopar boomers, people talking about making-of videos and surviving show cars showing up at car shows (say that 10 times fast), etc.good luck finding an original source 'cause i'd like to find one too
>>28901142>General Lee
I don't get it they had fiberglass back then did they not? what's the point?
>>28901722So build a custom tube frame chassis with unlicensed fiberglass panels (lol, good luck with that one) just to destroy it and have to make another to finish the weeks filming? Can you make a custom chassis that doesnt look like a dune buggy when its in the air?Or..Buy another beater from someones backyard for 200 bucks that runs well enough to hit ramp speed for its 4 seconds of screen time (?)
>used to
>>28901610>>28901356I've heard of Crown Vics being used for jump cars in the last decade-ish, at festivals and what have you, but never anything official, or in any film/TV. But never heard of LTDs being used back in the day.
>>28901357Been real quiet since I BTFO'd you >>28901375
>>28901874The 93 number is cars destroyed during filming of the movie. The additional 34 cars are from the crash scene footage from an actual real life train derailment that was incorporated into the opening sequence of the film. These 34 cars were not involved in the filming of the movie.
>>28901897Curious, it doesn't say that, it just says "127 cars (originally 93)".Almost as if is doing a really shitty job of summarising and displaying information.
>>28901869Maybe he means the same thing. The downsized panther platform LTD crown victorias
>>28901908No, I'm referring to the modern Crown Vic, and as I said, it's only become a thing in recent years. The car never even existed during the original series run.
>>28900973They buy junkers and write offs that are just fixed up cosmetically to look like they're fine (at least film/TV from the 80s and onward). Fiberglass and bog is pretty standard for that kind of thing, even the Ferrari Daytona in Miami Vice was fake since it was just a Corvette with a fiberglass body on it.
>>28901913Yeah you're right that doesn't make sense
>>28901908
>>28901933https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_LTD_(Americas)
>>28901835>used toyeah "used to" because now they use CGI cars for crashes
>>28901369newfag
>>28901915There was 2 Daytona made for Miami Vice fliming.Ferrari was pissed and finally convinced them to destroy the car(s). On film, Crockets car was blown up during one of the season finales (actually blown up, before CGI became standard) and next season he was driving a legit testarossa. However, the second car was never destroyed and still exists.
