got it running. starts right up now. it needed a new fuel pump lmao
>>28901420Hell yeah! Now, does it drive? Any error lights?Looks like you gotta do the bumper too.
going to let it idle for awhile. it's still got a ton of old shit gas in it. when i swapped the fuel pump the fucker was full. i had to siphon about 3 gallons out to get the new pump in without spilling. ill read the codes on INPA and report back later.>>28901423the cluster is missing the check engine light lol. and yes, front bumper, tires, gotta put the interior back together. lots of stuff still to do.
>>28901423i did shift into reverse, it reverses. i shifted into drive, it drives. but i cant really do a road test yet. need new tires. but i must say when i shifted into gear it felt insane like the car suspension was going up and down. maybe the diff is fucked. idk.
>>28901426check engine bulb* i mean
>>28901429That's pretty normal, actually. My 3.0i does it and has the entire 14 years I've owned it. I don't know why. I assumed it was just the way it was geared. It's a GM transmission based off the old Turbo Hydromatics, and my dad didn't seem confused by it.
>>28901420Why is it always the fuel pump? Mine still started and drove but the filter had completely deteriorated and one day the fuel sending line in the pump module cracked in two, thing was super brittle not even a real hose just cheap plastic. At least it's an easy job
still doesnt have a turbo
>>28901429>autoYa lost me
>>28901429Pretty normal for an auto of that era actually, I had an E32 that would do the same where the rear would get lower when putting it in drive.>>28901739Probably shit fuel and potentially worsened by sitting for a long period.
>>28901420Strut brace should be first on your list of mods when you get it running. It makes a big difference. That's a $2000 bumper so epoxy and bondo will probably be your friend.
>>28902181I know a lot of these cars came from Cali, makes sense the fuel would be shit
>>28901429> suspension was going up and downCould be a couple things, likely a driveshaft center support bearing. It could be diff mounts or trailing arm bushings, but center support bearing is most likely. Could also be the trans mount. Note, if you can get under the rear, inspect the rear subframe mounts to the unibody. They are in eye sight if you're checking the diff bushing. It's also possible that it has cracked. Not the end of the world if it has: there are support kits but it does require prep and welding.
did the brake bleed today. also, seemed to be idling a bit better than last time. maybe the dme had to re adapt idk.>>28902175the plan is to convert it to a manual. i have a manual donor car already. but thats probably months away. although i have the getrag- while bmw did put getrags in the 2.5l m52s, id rather get a ZF from the 2.8 or 3.0>>28902186agreed on the strut brace. i have a bumper from my donor car, its not in the best shape and its silver but couldn't i take it to maaco and get it matched? >>28902454yeah the z3 subframe issue. i didnt worry about it on my other z3 since it was the M44 but definitly something i need to pay attention to with the bigger engine
>>28902791brake flush* not bleed
>>28902791Ya found me
oh yeah i also learned that the gauge cluster is not the original and from an earlier z3 or even an early e36 maybe? but yeah, those early clusters were fully analog while this 1999 z3's stock cluster had CAN bus. that's why the INPA is showing codes 131 and 132 and why my gauges aren't working, but some of the lights do turn on, parking brake, blinkers, etc.. ill have to buy one from ebay and make sure its a 99' or later cluster. the 68k on the dash is a lie. the true mileage in unknown. >>28902454nice car btw
>>28902181My e32 does it if I put it in first, but not Drive. Always nice to meet another e32 owner.
>>28902454>putnami see you TN bro :D
>>28902862>My e32 does it if I put it in first, but not Drive. Could depend on the engine and transmission? I have the M30 with 4 speed auto. I just really really like the M30 engine kek.
>>28903191Same engine. 735i with the M30B35. God's own motor.
