Am i stupid for wanting a miata in the U.S? What if i get turned into a crushed soda can by some chud in a raised truck or a suburban sunglass wearing milf in an suv

Most people can avoid being hit. Smol and nimble gives you more outs.
>>
>>28902131
now someones gonna post the webm of the miata getting spooked by the truck and spinning out
>>
>>28902124
Cruise around with the top down on a nice day, and maybe you'll stop stressing out about shit you have absolutely zero control over
>>
I got rear-ended in my last NA by a college chick in her Explorer going 30-40 when I was stopped.
Didn't get a bruise but sent that miat to the shadow realm.
What will be will be, they are obviously more-likely to get you killed in an accident but not necessarily. It's whatever, I bought another one.

buy an ex Spec Miata Racecar
>>
>>28902131
Take that idea further and you end up with a bike

Small and nimble only goes so far when every Mexican Karen in an Xbox huge SUV accelerates faster without even trying

Skill issue, let the bitch go by.

I don't disagree but again that's to my point, even if your car is small and nimble you often have to yield if something bigger and faster is pressing you. My daily is different roadster with more HP, my first ever car was a 1990 Miata. And I owned a few Miatas after that. Biggest advantage in avoiding accidents comes from the awareness you get in a small roadster, especially if you drive with the top down

You sound feminine.

It's not like riding a motorcycle. You just have to take some slight extra precautions when driving it vs. a regular car; always be aware of other people's blind spots, leave more space between yourself and the car in front of you (since you can't see in front of them), generally try to stay away from fuckhuge vehicles who may not see you down on planet Earth.

It's definitely scarier driving a miata now than when I got my first in '08. Your roof is below many of the windows of cars around.
Your advice is sound. Stay out of blind spots and expect that people don't see you. It helps that they're fairly loud and bassy stock.

Modern vehicles have great sound proofing and even if they hear your 1.6/1.8L they won't be paying attention

True.
But in the last 4-7 days I remember an incident where I was on the interstate and an SUV with windows above my roof tried merging into me. I was boxed in so I just went to like 60% throttle and it seems they heard me. I forget horns exist.
I wouldn't depend on it at all, but it might help save your life - "loud pipes save lives."

You could wake up dead tomorrow from brain bleed caused by nothing. Just buy it man if it will make you happy

any time i've almost been hit in mine it's been someone in a crossover so probably.

I have a SQTT on my miata and I do this all the time, open the throttle and suddenly people are aware there is a shitbox in their vicinity without seeing it, pretty handy
but OP if you're spooked by the inherent danger of driving what is ostensibly the smallest car on the road, you might consider an NC or ND, still not gonna save you from a semi but you're far less likely to die in a crash in one than you are in an NA/NB. or just get a bigger car, idk, there are plenty of nimble cars larger than a miata, they just tend to be more expensive

I test drove one once. 800lb springs on the street are absolutely brutal. Race cars should stay race cars.
