It being abundant statistically has nothing to do with how available it is.Now, US has a massive anount of natural gas and seemingly a lack of a clear use for it. Starting to produce liquidified hydrogen with it can make sense economically, but the clear use case is for logistics that are hard to difficult to replace with battery EVs such as heavy machinery and shipping. For consumer cars the large volume of hydrogen tanks alone kills the idea.
