Hello yallIm looking at getting a 55 gal transfer tank for my 2018 chevy colorado. It aint 4wd, it aint really a truck but I travel alot with it for my buisness and figure a fuel tank would be good. Any reccomedarions, tips or advice on these? Its a gas one so I cant gravity flow it. Thanks. Picrel
My routes and shit. Should I get better springs? Or add a leaf spring? Im a dog trainer not a mechanic. Thanks again.

Do you have a specific need for having an onboard ~1000 mile range or is this just for shits and gigs? Fully loaded it's going to be about 500 pounds (including the tank and pump) in your bed at all times until you start emptying it which will affect your mpg and of course bed space, but you shouldn't need to upgrade your suspension since your truck has over 1000lb payload. I know the pump is pictured but if it doesn't come with one for whatever reason that's another couple hundred, those fil rites aint cheap and you don't want to cheap out and end up burning your truck down in the middle of nowhere. You will also need to drill holes in your bed to mount it because no, a ratchet strap really is not sufficient especially in the event of a crash. Also personally I just don't fucking like the idea of having 450 pounds of gas in a metal box right behind the cabin and pumped with a shitty vane pump, diesel is fine but not gas for me fuck that. If you do go for it, make sure to get a locking fill cap and wire the pump to a circuit that is key on to prevent theft especially right now with gas going back to scamdemic levels, if there isn't a suitable circuit to tap use a relay to switch battery power to the pump using a non critical key on circuit (wipers, hvac, radio, etc) as a trigger or an upfitter switch (factory toggle switch) if your truck has any.
I'd trade your shit in for a prius if you need to do miles like that nonstop
>>28906024Id like to fill up in Yuma before being in California for a week or 2 for work. And I find myself in the middle of nowhere and get annoyed at having to stop early just incase there's no gas station further down. Ive been in a few rural areas in montana and Wyoming where the gas station didnt have gas. Id keep it empty unless I was going somewhere for work. But ya, might just get a diesel and not worry as much about all that gas behind me. Plus niggers trying to nig.
>>28906058I like the crewcab in my truck, ripped out the seats and put an old police k9 insert in the back. I cant do that with one of those.
>>28905898Those are interesting routes all over. What do you do for work if you don't mind sharing?
>>28906106I train and sell protection dogs to rich people. Im either picking up a dog, dropping off a dog or doing a week long class somewhere.
So, i'm one of those people who can see the real reason why someone wants something, and I'm not going to mince words about it.At the end of the day saving $1 a gallon here or 1$ there won't pay back the utility of that tank in the short term depending on what level of quality product you decide to buy. And the price does matter for something like a fuel tank. I would absolutely not use a $400 Temu special and expect it to be good or safe.
>>28905895Find some farmer special 55 gallon L tank and just run that in the bed. Bit harder since it’s gas but it’ll work for your need. I run an extra 100 gallon diesel tank that auto pumps for my road trips and it is a life saver in time and money
>>28906495Ya, im looking at rds probably. The tank would save 100s when im in California but its nice to have when im in bum fuck Egypt or skinwalker terrority. Its nice to be able to drive a to b without having to worry about i need gas in 350 miles, hoping the gas station is open or has gas. I go through alot of back roads and small towns where their gas stations dont pump 24/7.
>>28905895Sounds kind of annoying. You can get half-ton pickups with extended range fuel tanks, usually 30-40 gallons. My 2019 F150 has a 37gal tank and gets about 20mpg.
>>28906527Ill look into it. I can fit a 70 gal tank but I couldn't run dogs with a full tank cause that would put me too close to being over max weight with all my equipment. Im kinda retarded and was wondering if adding leaf springs would increase the weight load or if it would just ease the current load on the truck.
>>28906590Ya, I am considering buying a better truck but cant really do so for another few months till I deliver this dog. I was wondering what the big difference between a 350 and 250 is besides the max weight. Ive kinda taken this truck to its limits and would like something more durable. Is there anything special you need to do with gravity feeding diesel?
>>28906588Fair enough and having some range assurance when your mpg drops like a rock is good.
I know 3/4 tons also have aftermarket tanks of like 60-80 gallons, but those are typically diesels. You're not really hauling anything heavy but a good super duty would handle any mountains and have 150+ gallons (aftermarket tank plus transfer tank) on board only needing to stop to refuel both. A hotshot driver once told me you can just flick a switch and have it transfer into your regular tank without needing to stop, but who knows if that meth runner knew what he was talking about and why you'd want to do more than 4 hours without stopping is beyond me. Regardless, a longer wheel base like a long bed super duty is simply easier to drive long distances too. You'd never have to worry about being over limit or any terrain, plus its a slight tax writeoff for your business. I assume you have no interest in sleeping in that rig, but you probably could if that was your lifestyle.I knew some mobile guys regularly towed a pop-up camper or trailer behind their truck and basically towed their hotel everywhere they went.
>>28906475The world fascinates me how many different and interesting jobs there are out there.
>>28906649Thanks anon. Thats good advice. Ill sleep at ghetto motel 6s usually so my dogs can try to get a live bite the meth heads but if I have a tank in the back, maybe a holiday inn would be better. Ill look in to that. I have a 6 hole dog trailer i bought and gotta fix up. but I dont have a need to haul it right now. Im hauling 2 dogs max at the moment in the cab.
>>28906650I started out picking up dog shit for a government contractor 15 years ago and climbed the ladder. Made contacts and kept throwing tools and knowledge in my toolbox. Its not easy and is very hard on the body. But it pays well and allows freedom. Pros ans cons to everything I guess.
>>28906677>Im hauling 2 dogs max at the moment in the cab.Sounds like you're training something like a German Shepherd, laying down for hours like that is probably really uncomfortable for them. A super duty could be for 2 slightly larger kennels, but hotshot drivers regularly turn that area into a sleeper cab area. Just be mindful of the dogs being alone in an opaque cage subject to whatever shitass weather is going on making a trailer kinda bad for the dogs.
>>28906717Honestly at this point I’d look at a super duty and a horse trailer with a living quarter to sleep in. I’ve been eyeing something like a shadow trailer for a similar job with other livestock. Fully enclosed with a mini split for the trailer.
>>28906717Ya, I mainly do mals, gsd, or floppy ears like labs for veterans/service dogs. I installed an k9 insert in the, i guess the back set idk, the crew part of the crew cab. So the whole thing is padded with a dog bed, room to cause problems, water, etc. Essentially the back seat is one giant dog crate. If I pick up an asshole dog. Like an ass eater or something, ill keep em in gunner kennel in the bed. Unless its like super hot and there's traffic, ill keep them inside the k9 insert in the cab. Its just annoying having a dog try to kill you or it stress shits and the truck stinks for 1000 miles. But they are well taken care of. One reason why I am more successful than my competitors is cause I treat all dogs like my own. Scarry larry in Pic
>>28906722That'd actually be super nice. The super duty would tow a trailer like that effortlessly. Living area, kennel space to keep them warm or cool, you could put a 400 gallon tank in the bed if you really wanted, its over 3 tons so its a complete business tax writeoff, and it looks slick as shit for your super rich clients buying these dogs. Last I heard a good trained K9 unit is easily $60,000. Charge $10k more to show how well the dogs were taken care of even in transit and even point out you're sleeping in your trailer to save on hotel expenses. The perk is so many places will let you still camp overnight like Walmart, but you can easily get a spot at an RV park for like $100 a night. Super secure, walk the dogs around, and everyone else is in RVs just trying to relax.
>>28905898Helper airbags are something I add to every truck that isn’t an off-roader. They make everything better at hauling, with less comfort penalty.
>>28906729Generally they stay around 100 gallons in the bed. Look up strangler flow TRAX systems for that. Being able to have it completely seperate and dropping the trailer is nice go setting up operations out at places. Working with K9 handlers at military installations they def blow serious dollars at them so I don’t doubt you can work a system like that.
>>28906827Transfer*
>>28905895Not much to say. Gonna be about 400lbs. If you're hauling any heavy shit in the bed, you might consider air shocks or helper shocks, but probably not necessary.
>>28906862Ill look into those as well. Thanks anon>>28906827Will do thanks
>>28906729Good to know. It was weird working with rich folk at first. One dude got snowed in and called a helicopter to pick him up and meet me somewhere. Must be nice shieeet I sell my dogs around 40k and up, its just me and one other guy and our overhead is just procurement, food and vet expenses like xrays and shit. What you described is pretty much my dream, but was unsure if its realistic or not.
>>28905895>Its a gas oneMake sure it has a bunch of internal baffles and not just one single reinforcing baffle inside the middle of the tank. When a 55-gallon tank is filled with gasoline, JUST THE GASOLINE weighs approximately 350 pounds. Without enough baffles, this mass can surge violently during braking or cornering. And really, the weight of the tank, secure mounting, pump, hoses, nozzle, breather, and security accessories makes all this weigh a huge amount. Do you really need this much of a transfer tank as opposed to a much smaller thing that will tide you over to the next city?
>>28907078Rds has multiple baffles. I already went down from 70 gal to 55. And it is more of a need than a want. I have to go from new mexico/west texas to new Hampshire and Connecticut in 2 months to drop off and pick up. My shortest trip is usually 850 miles and 12 or so hours.
>>28907102You should really get a bunch of rubbermaid bins and fill them up with 500lbs of water then drive around and see how that feels. I can guarantee you your light duty truck is not going to like it.
>>28907078Fuel oil is that thick sludge they use in ship engines right?
>>28907211yes
>>28905911Wow
>>28906729There's a place near me that charges 5k for a 2 week dog training camp. Not sure how many dogs they take at a time but seems lucrative.
>>28907102>rubbermaid bins and fill them up with 500lbs of water then drive around and see how that feelsI drive around with a 275gal tote on a gen 1 tacoma. It's fine.I wouldn't take it canyon carving, but it's fine in normie traffic.Even if its idk 500-600lbs over weight rating(with other crap in truck), when full, those ratings are extremely gay and fake.
>>28907466Fake and gay, noted anon. I had a feeling those numbers were jewish tricks. >>28907184Eh, that seems excessive.
>>28906727Will you train dachshunds?
>>28907616I train whatever pays. But no shitbulls
>>28907529>Eh, that seems excessive. So does running a slip tank in a 1/4 ton.
