Cannot wait for gen X to die off so we can stop collectively pretending that fiddling a stick around constantly makes driving more "fun" and "engaging"

Does anyone who drives in the mountains actually not end up just having to manual shift their auto box anyways?I just wish I had shift paddles. Never been rich enough to have a car with those. I wish they were offered more widely especially as manufuckturers get rid of grip shifters and give you knobs and dials and other abominations. Don't get me wrong, I love not having to shift in heavy traffic, but it would be nice if the tranny logic weren't geared towards fuel economy 100% of the time.
Manuals are more fun and that's a fact across all of time you can cope with your lack of skills all you want, it won't change this simple truke
>>28905919giulia has them and you can get one for ~$10k, clean title nowadays. And to answer your question: automatics are dogshit at shifting in the mountains. Always trying to stay in too high of a gear, never downshifting in time. I really miss driving a manual when I get stuck in an automatic car.
>>28906072>Always trying to stay in too high of a gear, never downshifting in time. I really miss driving a manual when I get stuck in an automatic car.whats weird is mine is ok as long as 1) you are on a pre-known highway so the "hda" symbol illuminates2) you are on an uphill grade (not flat or downhill)THEN it will perpetually hold a lower gearso it has the capacity, it just isn't fully executedI bet maybe ford blue cruise or gm super cruise are better about this>giulia has them and you can get one for ~$10k, clean title nowadays.ancient cheap interior, no adas systems you probably can't even get a blind spot monitor/warning let alone no 360 cameras and they won't even update it, shows its just abandonware
>>28906076>no adas systemsyou say that as if it's a bad thing>blind spot monitor/warning it has that>no 360 camerasskill issue>cheap interioryou're on crack.
>>28906078>you say that as if it's a bad thingif you take road trips it sure it, its nice to have a beep if you are tired and you put on your turn signal and there's someone in the other lane>you're on crack.every review criticized the interior when it first came out and they never updated it at all
>>28906081>muh reviewersthe interior is legitimately nice. it's not flashy or full of useless "tech" though, so non-whites hate it. But it has real leather, real wood, real aluminum, and it doesn't squeak like a fisher price BMW.
>>28906086its outdated and shitty and was when first released they halfassed it and it doomed the car to dismal sales, if they had tried harder it wouldn't have flopped
>>28905903Cucked beyond believe.
Should I get rid of my 2023 x5 and get a 2027 gle 450 bros?
>>28905903Nu-male
>>28905903>i cant wait to generationally memoryhole driving skillsKeep boosting with vaccines retard
>he equates driving skills with using stickThere's a reason race cars have flappy paddles.
flappy paddles are so that drivers can redirect the skill normally used for shifting a manual towards turning instead.why wouldn't driving stick not be based on skill? How stupid and disingenuous do you have to be to suggest that.
If it was useful, it would be used in races. It's more useful to have 2 hands on the wheel to control your car. Driving stick doesn't matter and flappy paddles are faster and better.
>>28905903On asphalt? Paddles are fine. Having access to the clutch does nothing for maintaining grip. On dirt and snow? Man you will not BELIEVE how much more fun you can have when you have access to the clutch.
>>28905903In 25 years OP will be like "I remember when we controlled the steering and the car didn't do it for you." Then he'll say it was "fun" and "engaging". Of course he's a retard so the irony will be lost on him.
>>28905903fiddling my stick around constantly is fun and engaging though
>>28905919I live in the mountains and I have three autotragics at my disposal;the 1988 chevy with a three speed stays in third gear basically all the time, uphill or downhill, so it doesn't do much unless I'm going up a hill at like 25 or 30 and then maybe I'll put it in 2nd so it makes a bunch more noise but doesn't actually go any faster.the 1990 ford AOD needs the most babysitting, I constantly have to shift from overdrive to non overdrive because the cruise control can't do it and the cruise will also give up if you lose any speed on a hill, so that's annoying.then, the 2019 chevy nine-speed, I don't really ever have to touch the transmission on that one, I just put it in L9 all the time to keep autostop from fucking up my CD changer and sometimes I'll limit it to maybe 6th or 7th gear while doing some twisty uphills, but it does pretty good.
>>28906443It's faster and better to have flappy paddles on a racetrack. But as soon as you have to turn the wheel more than 90°, so everytime you're not on a racetrack, they become worthless and slow. This is why rally cars have a sequential gearbox with a lever for shifting and a clutch pedal for whenever you'd need it. Objectively this is the best option, but good luck buying a car like that. Now you have two options: get an automatic and give up proper car control to some shitty algorithm tied to your gas pedal or get a manual and full control of your car, but you have to work on your skills to go fast. I prefer to be in charge of my car, but if you want to be a bottom, go ahead.
>>28906072>Stellantis dog shitWhy the ever loving fuck would anyone buy a Giulia, let alone a sub $10k used one? They’re $45k+ new and under five figures used, do you not have any clue as to why that might be?
>>28906493This.Gen X is the only thing delaying personal automobiles from becoming illegal and "transportation pods" becoming mandated for peons
>>28905903anons help I accidentally highlighted the image somehow and I can't get it to clear, I've even tried reloading the page and it's still highlighted
>>28906081>you take road trips it sure it, its nice to have a beep if you are tired and you put on your turn signal and there's someone in the other laneAll that, plus lane centering are available on giorgio platform cars. Just look for one that isn't literally the cheapest config of its model year
>>28905903gen Xers like autos, the younger gens grew up and learned to drive largely after automatics were standard (at least in america). because of this they don't have the association of "manual=poor," so they're more likely to adopt an informed opinion on manuals based off how the transmission feels and makes them feel. no wonder all of my car friends (mostly gen Z, 1 millenial) drive manuals, it's fun!
>>28906825>the 1990 ford AOD needs the most babysitting, I constantly have to shift from overdrive to non overdrive because the cruise control can't do it and the cruise will also give up if you lose any speed on a hill, so that's annoying. As someone with an AOD, that's more Ford's shitty axel gear ratio. Switched from 3.08 to 3.73 and have not had issues with the AOD maintaining OD up hills.
