How (un)reliable is the Jetta?

I'm dailying a 2004 Land Cruiser and the 12 mpg is kicking my ass. Looking for a econo commuter under $18k for a 60 mile daily highway commute. The Jetta is the only econo shitbox I've found comfortable and gets 30-40 mpg. I refuse to buy Hyundai-Kia after dealing with their warranty bullshit and Japs have gone full CVT cult.

Hyundai-Kia is your best option here and you know it. You are buying used anyways so warranty won't really be relevant. Elantra Hybrid is cheap and efficient and much nicer than a Jetta inside. You could probably afford an Optima Hybrid maybe even.

KYS gookshill. Your cars are garbage supported by styling and marketing. Half priced japs.
>>

try it try it you will see
I dunno if you are such a hater actually go test some used cars and tell us how they compare. I bet an Optima Hybrid blows the Jetta out of the water. You could also maybe get a newer Kia K5, still used just not hybrid just with the base engine.

I've owned a Korean shitbox. Your engines are garbage and you slant eyed fraudsters try to squeeze out of honoring the warranties you wrote. Fuck you dipshit mongoloid niggers.

You are going to like the way it drives. I guarantee it.
Kia comes with hands free driving. You can drive with hands in your lap if your commute is on highways. VW cannot compete its a MUCH older design (2011). You get the higher trim you can get power passenger seat, 360 camera, ventilated seats.

Get an 00's corolla under $5k with a manual and keep the cruiser for family trips
>>
>>28908537
Yeah but tiny little smoking Koreans didn’t make they Toyota Corolla, and you’re praying a premium for the brand, just get a 2018 or newer Hyundai
>>

You brought up your K5 in two separate threads. We get it, you like the first new car you ever bought. Now stfu

>$18k or under
>to save a couple bucks on gas
You'd probably have to drive that V8-powered Land Cruiser a few more decades (which it will) to offset the cost of whatever money saving "econo commuter" you're going to buy - unless it's something like a $2500 Prius or a diesel of some sort, which I can barely recommend since diesel costs more than $2 more per gallon than gasoline where I'm at which entirely negates any money saved.
>>
>>28908510
I had a 2016 Jetta and it was reliable. I never had any problems with it, other than the battery dying after a few years.

>>28908510
>econo commuter under $18k for a 60 mile daily
if you get anything but tesla you're just stupid anon.
>>
>>28908528
For my entire life, it's been the same line with Kia/Hyundai.

>ok, sure the old ones sucked and we tried to avoid honoring our warranties... but they're good now!

I've been hearing this line for 25 years. I owned a koreaslop, it was fucking awful and the depreciation factor made me wish I just bought a Honda or Toyota.

$18,000 = 4500 gallons of gas @ $4.00/gal
12mpg = $0.33/mile
0.33x60 = $19.8/day commuting
18,000/19.8 = 909 days of commuting or 181 weeks/3.4 years assuming 5 days per week every single week that entire time.

Is it worth giving up the wonderful ride and immunity to elements the land cruiser gives you?

It always baffled me how gas prices are such a topic of butthurting. even now that gas has gone up to $4+ a gallon, it's not like it's breaking the bank to fill up your tank. You pay like what? an extra $20 a week now? If that's too much for you as a car owner, you might as well just sell your car and trade it for either a scooter of a bus pass. The people who bitch about gas prices are the same people will not give up their daily starbucks mochachinos to help offset the increased price of gas.

So if you want to downgrade by all means downgrade, just do it with something better than a Volkswagen. I recommend you look at a Mazda 3, they're ok cars, with the same engine for over a decade and still using old fashioned automatic transmissions. Even better they're actually fun to drive, or at least as fun as a commuter sedan can be.

Second option, if you can spring up on your money a couple thousand is a Subaru Impreza. People go to Subaru for Foresters and Outbacks, and the Impreza has been such a low seller that they stopped making them. dealers are sitting on unsold inventory of 2025 models, now selling as CPOs anywhere between 21-22K. Hit up a dealers with some hardball offers and you might get a deal at 20K. Only bad thing in your criteria is that it does come with a CVT, but Subaru makes their own thing instead of licensing to dogshit manufacturers like Nissan did, so while their CVTs are just as boring as everyone elses, they're at least more reliable than average.

Premium gas is about $6 where I live. Land Cruiser gets 12mpg. More like 10mpg with the AC on and part of my commute being mountains. I commute 60 miles a day. Rented a Jetta for a bit and got about 35mpg and it uses cheaper $5 normie gas

Per daily commute:
Land Cruiser consumes 6 gallons at $6 ($36)
Jetta consumes 1.75 gallons at $5 ($8.75)

Monthly:
Land Cruiser: 120 gallons ($720)
Jetta: 35 gallons ($175)

I fucking hate Teslas. Am considering an Ioniq though.

I'm not going to get rid of the Land Cruiser it's long paid off. I'll still use it on weekends.
