The weather is always great, there's always something to do in whatever big city you're in, you're always in close proximity to a beach or park, you're close to LA where basically every concert tour has an event at, there are tons of great driving roads, cars don't rust there, dude weed lmao is legal if you're into that, I could go on. The harsh air quality laws are a necessary evil because CA's topography is basically a giant bowl. The pollutants coming out of everyone's exhaust doesn't blow away like in flatter parts of the country, it collects in that bowl until you have smog clouds that make it so everyone gets to breathe nothing but exhaust and gets free throat and lung cancer and stunted children's development. The emissions controls obviously worked because now you can actually see the tops of the mountains you live near and air quality related sicknesses are down. Do I disagree that the laws could be written with a tad more leeway for the minority of car enthusiasts to have a little more fun and help keep classic cars on the road (especially on circumstances where replacement emissions parts are no longer made and upgrades aren't legal, like the unavailable first gen RX7 thermal reactors you can't replace with a catalytic converter that would be cleaner)? Absolutely not. However, I also like breathing clean air and not having literal cancer.
