Winch is a warn 10klb VR Evo with synthetic rope.
Bumper is a warn 100044 semi hidden kit.
It installed nicely and isn't obvious unless you love for it. I went with synthetic rope to save weight and since the rope is buried in the bumper it doesn't see sunlight unless I pull the rope out. I also put in a relay so the winch isn't on unless I flip a switch. It has a wireless remote so I wasn't sure if they synced them to the winch or if it would be like old RC cars with the cross talk interfering with each other.

UPDATES:
Got one coilover installed today
i failed to measure hub to fender, so i really wont know how much lift i have
i will say i had to step on the LCA with pretty much all my weight to get the new coilover in the lower hole. surprised me a little.

anyway, i had two casualties, i punctured my hub cap thingie with a screwdriver because im a retard. i might want to get another one, or ill probably just pick up jb weld or rtv or something

i also maybe fucked up my tierod end. couldnt get the fucker off, and i was beating on it with the castle nut on because i didnt want to fuck up the threads, and fucked up the castle nut instead, necause im a retard. so now theres some random flared nut on it, with some blue locktite, @80ft lbs. i should probably at least get another castle nut, what do you guys think of this tierod?

i also did the needle replacement on my front CV and changed the seal.

tomorrow i will finish the front, and think about doing the rear, even tho i dont have my rear spring hangers yet. debating weather i should do that or not.

i have driveline vibration now
i have measured all my angles, and i think i know how to fix it

toyota has a two piece driveshaft which complicates things a bit

a few things: there should be no more that 3* of difference in between the yoke and ujoints, ans there should be no more that .5* between all the working angles
you find your working angles by measuring the yottom of each yoke, then subtract them. Spin the youke off the tcase flat, measure that. Then spin the driveline until the ujoint attached to that yoke is flat, measure that. Then subtract the numbers, and you have your working angle. Do that for each connection, in my case I have 3.
the first joint off the tcase was like, 3.1, the one off the carrier bearing was like 3.4, but the one headed into rear axle is like 7.1. That one is the problem child. The solution, I hope/think, is to install a 4* shim under the axles to bring doen that 7.1 to about 3ish, which makes all 3 angles close to .5* of each other, hopefully solving my issue. I might have to monkey around with the carrier bearing and stack some washers under it, but that will be nbd.
i have a 4* shim and longer bolt kit on the way, along with some ubolts. I have to clamp up the springs, take the middle bolt out, and install a longer middle bolt, then put the shim in, and ubolt everything back together. Super not looking forward to that, but it probably wont take too long, and it needs to be done.

tires and rims are ready to be mounted, hopefully i can do that this saturday, maybe friday if i get off work early.
might let them do the tierod ends so i dont have to fuck with it. Ill see if they will do a high caster alignment also

lockers are great, unless youre really getting into hairy stuff, you can do a lot with 2wd and a locker.
look into helical LSD, about half the cost of a full locker, and they are very useful. Theyre better in the rear, because if you get a wheel off the ground, you can ride your brake a bit to get them to lock. Also, try a bit of your handbrake, it might evenly distribute the torque next time you start spinning.

i would be very hesitant to get that camberg ucas. It has heim joints in the rear, which are great. But they use a larger ball up front, which in theory is a good idea. But any ball joints weakness is the bolt that actually goes through the spindle. So big deal it has a bigger ball. Forged is really not needed either, and 2k for ucas is a bit much imo.

i did accutune, they valve the shocks to whatever youre doing. theyre in socal down there somewhere.

I wanted to see an overlook today and was told by the ranger it was theoretically drivable but it is mainly used by ATVs but the second I got on the dedicated road for it there was that extra thick chunky gravel that I hate so much, not the biggest rocks in a road ive ever seen, but top 10, went about 1/2 a mile and turned around
would have been maybe 30-40 minutes more going 8 mph crawling to avoid busting my tires open otherwise
I got all terrain tires but they are at highway pressure and I haven't bothered to get a system to lower them for rough roads and really this wouldn't have been worth it and the view wasn't that amazing judging from pictures but I still was disappointed my "off road" kia couldn't do it, I mean maybe it could have but im a wussy.

It did ok otherwise on the gravel roads with the all terrains. I got chunkier ones than it came with (old: bf goodrich geodrive, new: falken wildpeak at4w)
the steering is still slop and really unconfident on loose gravel that's probably the worst part but that's not so much the tires, I don't lose grip its just hard to feel where the car is through the wheel

Any XJs I've seen for sale are either RWD, 400k miles, roached the fuck out, "sin titulo," $6k+, or some combination of those. And I live in central FL where there are tons of them and they haven't suffered from being in the rust belt. I bought one that's pretty clapped for $2k a few years back and considered it a good deal though it's the Cherokee of Theseus at this point.

I put an anderson conector underneath the front bar which is connected to the battery via a fuse. Compressor has a cable long enough to reach all 4 tires. That way I don't need to open the hood every time to air up. Works very well. IMO next best thing to having a compressor permanently mounted and wired up in the vehicle somewhere.

I'm 6'5" and 300lbs, so I want as much space to sprawl out as I can. Plus I still plan on using the bed for truck stuff occasionally.
The aluminum truck toppers are both too expensive and too restrictive - you lose most of the usable area of a truck bed when you install them, and the area left doesn't lend itself well to getting dirty.
The canvas soft topper + bed rack gives me plenty of capacity for a tent + gear and I can still chuck over one ton of payload in the bed.

Get a $15 air hammer from harbor freight. (You do have an air compressor right?).
Cut a cross (+) in the head of the rivet with a cutoff wheel and then hit it with the air hammer. Head will crack off and rivet will pop right out. No damage to frame or old mount. Takes less than 30 seconds per rivet.

the UCAs i got claim you can run them without rub in 285. i think the backspacing they used was -10. I dont think 0 offset wouldve cleared the uca, thats 4.7 backspace, they wanted at least 4.5. And my allignment wasnt the best, all they gave me was 2.3 caster. It shouldve been 3+
but the -25 offset really killed me, i couldnt find anything i wanted that was in stock at -10 or -12, so i had to choose between -25, or -38. Its more poke that i want, but it does look good.

I literally just used a harbor freight air hammer with a 2&1/2 gallon pancake compressor to pop some rivets.
It takes less than 2 seconds. The other 28 seconds is grinding, switching tools, trying to get in a comfortable position...

The headache is I need to get them off to mount a rearward skid plate I bought. It uses these existing bolt holes to hold it on. This stuff is nice when you have a clean or new vehicle but it's anything but bolt-on after +10 years of driving around.
If they prove to be niggerish I'll just pay a shop to do it, skids were relatively affordable for how good they are.

They're one piece at this point. Canadian winters literally transform parts of your car into parts that never existed when it left the factory.
Ontario has a big automotive manufacturing sector and they purposely over-salt the roads with rock salt and those liquid salt brine trucks to rot and rust out vehicles faster than normal. I’ve got a 04 wrangler with those aftermarket tube fenders and I’m going to install 3/4in turn signal markers so I don’t have bulbs just hanging out the sides.
I was wondering if any makes a socket with wires coming out the end? It’s so I can build my own harness with the 3/4in lights and not have to cut out the factory connector.

I live a day trip away from the Rubicon, but also have a 30min commute and have always been a sportscar guy over a truck guy. But my car also needs to be able to handle heavy snow.

Recently I've been considering a Wrangler but I just don't know if it's for me. My primary purpose would be something I can car camp in, but also a comfortable commuter that has decent on-road handling. I currently drive a CX-30 turbo and it's great for on-road handling, but obviously lacks the offroad capability. Should I get the vastly different Wrangler and have great offroad capability and give up that sweet on-road handling? Or go somewhere in between maybe with a Subaru or Rav4 and lift it to have at least decent offroad capability? I've never needed to rock crawl to get to a decent campsite but it would be cool and allow me to reach more places.

After owning a Mazda I'd never buy another one. Way too many issues right off the bat and fake warranty they don't actually honor. I've had a few Toyotas and they only have early suspension issues and their CVTs are garbage. Unfortunately the new Rav4s all have CVTs so in my experience I wouldn't expect them to make it over 120-140k miles before serious issues with those things.

Subaru is just too damn slow. I got the CX30 as a stand-in for a Crosstrek because the damn things are just way too underpowered. There doesn't seem to be much compromise with crossovers these days, they've all gone to shit. Totally goyed out because that's what their market wants, or is willing to put up with. So maybe I have to go full Jeep/truckfag to get something uncucked.

I did that and drove it over a volcano in Hawaii while it was raining. Stock model with road tires and it did alright. Slid and crashed once but probably my fault for going too fast down a slick muddy hill. Only made a small dent on the bumper they didn't even notice. I did not like how you can't see over the hood. Theres actually this weird combo on Ford Dana's where the 35 spindle shafts have a larger diameter than the 44s so running Ranger spindles/lug pattern on F150 TTBs is actually the strongest combo.
