How do I make my NA miata's engine sound as close to a 4age as possible?
itbs?
>>
>>28910354
I havent heard a 4age but ITBs can sound really good for a 4 cylinder on a Miata.

If you just want that deep "growl" you just need an open cone short ram intake. No exhaust mods. Drive 50-80% throttle in the 3-5k rpm range and there you go. Sounds exactly the same.

well im no engine sound expert but id say you need to focus on induction.
My italian project car has no ITBs but an after market cone air filter. and when driving the car I do feel a hint of that initial d 4age sound.
So ITBs with less restrictive filter should be the way to go.

Delete the intake, one time on haggard garage they had a piece of shit D15 civic with an open throttle body and it sounded like a 4AGE 20v meme engine

Video clearly unrelated
>>
only real way to tune exhaust sound is to have one on the engine stand and play with different mufflers and different pipes,
you might try wacky baffles or even do wild reducers or make something that even resembles a 2stroke big pipe.
that's how the wops desperately made the 351w/clevland in the pantera sound not like an american v8 even though it was a pedantic retarded thing to want to change.
however be warned it is a dead art shaping note with exhaust tubing and honestly nobody ever really figured it out to be able to make drastic note changes without just raping hp anyways.
>>
>>28913832
The exhaust seems pretty simple/similar so I think as long as I get a similar muffler and manage to copy the intake noises it should sound pretty close
So the main thing to figure out is how the intake makes the sounds it does

Do you not understand how intakes work?
>he referenced a shitbox toyota a engine, so of course not
You don't need ITBs if you just want sound, riceboy
>>
>>28910354
Actually you should give up on ever trying to make a non-motorcycle 4 cylinder sound good and then promptly kys for allowing tranime to influence your automotive purchases.
>>
>>28910354
Unironically the cheapest way to do it is to swap in a 4A-GE. Bore and stroke have a large effect on sound, and while you can technically destroke and then bore and sleeve B6, an engine swap is much simpler.
>>
>>28914158

>bore and sleeve the B6
That's now how Mazda engines work. You don't sleeve a Mazda block. The blocks are too strong, it's an unnecessary way to spend money.
>bore and stroke have effect on sound
It does, but it's not as influential as 4 valves per cylinder and intake manifold setup or even rod/ stroke ratio, which the 4age has a remarkably terrible low ratio for such a short stroke engine. Long rod engines sound better when revved, think F1, and even though the B6 is a short rod engine, it actually has about the same ratio than the damn 4age, with a nearly 10mm longer stroke,. (4a ratio is so bad, worst I've ever seen in such a short stroke engine)
See, the only thing the 4a has going for it, is the Yamaha head. The bottom end is all toyota tercel, thats a really bad thing for RPM, power and longevity. It has the bearings of a Mahindra tractor and the oiling system of a Model T. The block is spectacularly archaic It is truly an over rated piece of shit engine that routinely wipes bearings because it has such an inadequate bottom end. It's even more sad how certain NPCs trouble themselves to find one and recommend other people waste their time too.
Really the B6 with some moderate headwork is a better engine, period.

>gay avataring faggot
Thanks for reinforcing the stereotype that miata owners are retarded faggots who are into stupid shit OP.

>Really the B6 with some moderate headwork is a better engine, period.

The b6 doesn't have one-tenth of the cultural relevance or motorsport pedigree of the 4ag. How does that make you feel?
>>
>>28914436
>cultural relevance or motorsport pedigree
>how does that make you feel?
Pretty good, like I won by making you default to some feefees bullshit opinion with zero technical ability to refute the truth about toyotas overrated shittiness. Thanks for asking.

PS 4age is a garbage copy of a cosworth engine btw. Lets recap, goyota had to copy a ford engine but also had to make Yamaha do it. LOL
>>
>>28914442
It doesn't sound like it makes you feel pretty good. It sounds like you're seething that the 4ag has a far superior motorsport pedigree, parts catalog and cultural relevance.
All the b6 has going for is that the miata was voted gay car of the year, by fags for like 10 years in a row lol enjoy your fag engine.
>>
>>28914448
>pedigree
>cultural relevance
Now you're just broken, repeating your irrelevant faggotry.

While we're at it with the one-tenth nonsense, the 4age sold about that amount vs the B6. The Mx5 and the entire B series is still way more relevant and supported than your tercel engine. Only autistic retards that don't know any better make posts like you. Keep Seething Rajesh

The vid in first reply sounds like ass. Miatas usually sound like ass.
As I (second reply) mentioned, they sound great with an intake, but not exhaust. I had an NA8 with an intake and a cobbled-together exhaust with no cat but 3 large resonators and a muffler. It was deep ang quiet until you got on the throttle. When you ramped up the throttle around 4-5k rpm it sounded exactly like [cringe]the sound of Takumi accelerating at the end of the first scene in initial D (space boy)[/cringe]. It sounded amazing, I'd post a vid but I can't even get my old hard drive to spin so I can run a recovery, I even replaced the board on it. Backup your stuff, kids.
It's really hard to make a miata with an exhaust not sound like shit. Just slap an open-cone intake on there and you have the growl.
>>
>>28914563
I tried so many exhaust setups on that NA. I had 3.5 full exhaust systems and mix & matched parts. Got resonators welded in. High flow cat, test pipe, replace test pipe with resonator (that's the winner), I tried it all. You really have to pack on the resonators, otherwise it's bees in a can and overwhelms the soothing, deep induction noise. Also induction noise is really only there when you start getting on the throttle where most exhausts are annoying to everyone around no matter how you're driving.
Just got an NB, she's bone stock right now but sounds really nice. I'm still going to try some things.

>>28914569
The key with any exhaust is as you discovered, early silencers. A glasspack where the cat would be sounds entirely different than a glaspack in the back. A resonator is essentially just half a muffler. The more pipe that the post-muffler exhaust stream has to pass through, the less farty it sounds
